is it true that it's bad to have a massage while you have your period?

Not at all. Massage will in no way affect your menstrual period, and will also help in case you have menstrual pains. There is NO limitation of activities during menses. You can do ANYTHING you like.

in case of aromatherapy, you shouldn't get a massage during your heavy days because it would increase your menstrual flow.

Aromatherapy does not affect menstrual flow.

i studied aromatherapy... and actually it does... especially if the wrong oil is used... this is also the reason why pregnant women should not have aromatherapy.

Your menstrual flow is only significantly affected by your hormone status and overall health. Menstruation is the byproduct of your uterine lining (endometrium) sloughing off after exposure to progesterone. The amount of lining has already been preset a few weeks before thru the interplay of estrogens and progesterones, so when you're having your period, aromatherapy will not affect the thickness of the endometrium anymore.

Unfortunately, aromatherapy and herbal remedies make incredible claims of being able to cure and affect a lot of things, from acne to cancer. However, majority of their claims are not backed or are even disputed by scientific research. There are some effective researched alternative cures, but in this case, rubbing aromatherapy oil (I assume you mean marjoram, clary sage, or peppermint, among others?) over the abdomen to increase menstrual flow has no scientific basis.

Reinforcing what Ira has already said, Aromatherapy is simply another form of snake oil - a useless expense that does not do what it is claimed to do.

well, i never really had an experience with a client whom her menstrual flow got heavier when she had aromatherapy because they are asked first and this is usually avoided (female patients having aroma during her heavy days)... in case of cure of acne and cancer, i believe aromatherapy does not do that... but some oils help promote healthier skin... it does not literally cure a disease but it aids it's healing process... though, i don't think that aromatherapy is a useless expense and can't do anything it claims.

Aromatherapy relaxes people, which is good-- I also occassionally have aromatherapy when I'm stressed---but to claim anything more than that without any scientific basis is fooling people.

    Thumbs up

i agree ... well, i don't remember anything that aromatherapy is claiming without scientific basis... maybe it is only better to be safe than sorry (regarding not having massage during menstruation)

It is better to be safe than sorry in a lot of situation--but I beg to disagree with the menstruation case, because aromatherapy does not affect the monthly flow at all.
