hi guys. need some advise.
I'm male, 34. a few days ago, pumunta ako sa isang doctor for consultation about a recurring cough. it was around 10:20am when I saw him, and I did'nt have any breakfast yet except for some banana chips na binili ko dun sa may secretary nya, mga 10 minutes before nya ako makita. intern med and diabetes yung doc. normal naman bp ko, pero check nya kaagad blood sugar ko and it was 136.
sedentary talaga yung work ko, long hours in front of a computer, and malakas talaga ako sa kanin. di ko rin trip and sweets. a few weeks before ko makita yung doc, sometimes I feel tired all of a sudden, na parang gusto ko na lang matulog pero nawawala naman. also, naka experience din ako ng feeling na parang may butas sa tyan ko, like gutom na gutom ako, at kahit anong kain or inom di sya nawawala, pero maybe once or twice pa lang naman in four years.
advice ng doc is to reduce ko rice intake and sweets, kasama na rin bread. question, pwede pa ba through diet ito and more exercise. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Diet and exercise are the initial management for high blood sugar. 136 is not high if it was taken randomly.

Doc, I have a relative na 18 palang sya kailangan sapakan ng insulin for a lifetime. Bakit po lifetime? ganyan po ba tlaga kagrabe ang diabetes?
hi guys. just an update. on feb 15 this year I had a fasting glucose of 136 mg/dl by way of a doctor's glucometer. after that, I started reducing my food intake, particularly rice, and have avoided softdrinks and juices. the only fruit I have eaten is an apple in the morning instead of bread or rices. I think I must have reduced my rice intake by more than half.
anyway, on feb 28, I again had a fasting blood glucose this time in a laboratory and the result was 6.4 mmol/L which is equivalent to more or less 115 mg/dL in prediabetes.
then we bought a glucometer and we checked it last night and my random glucose last night was 99. when I woke up this morning, march 3, my fasting glucose was 102.
by the way, when I got that 136 blood sugar, I was on the fourth week of my vacation, and I had been drinking a lot of softdrinks and lots of food that are not available in my place of work.
I hope this continues. I hope I am not diabetic and it was just some incidental hyperglycemia because of my vacation and eating habits at that time. I'm inclined to think that I'm prediabetic anyway so I'll continue this diet, I really need to lose weight sooner than later. I'm 34 by the way.

kakacheck ko lang ng blood sugar ko and mine is 284 huhu
I failed in lowering my blood sugar![]()
Your relative likely has Type 1 diabetes mellitus. This is characterized by early onset and dependence on insulin for survival.
Note that glucometer readings for the diagnosis of diabetes or the pre-diabetic state (IFG, IGT) is NOT acceptable. The glucose determination must use a sample taken from a "real" blood extraction and not just a finger *****. Thus in your case the most reliable determination is your fasting glucose of ~115 mg/dL which corresponds to impaired fasting glucose or IFG. IFG is a pre-diabetic state, which means you have a high chance of progressing to full-blown diabetes (FBS of 126 mg/dL or greater) in the near future.
If you wish to delay or hopefully prevent the onset of diabetes there are only two established approaches, namely diet and exercise or medication (metformin). Both are validated by studies but even if you go for the latter route it doesn't mean you shouldn't take an effort to exercise and improve your diet.
Regarding your self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG), it's not really necessary since you don't have diabetes. It's more useful to just have FBS taken at intervals (e.g. every 6 months, yearly, etc.) to monitor the status of your IFG.
Sorry not sure if the question was posted before but here goes:
If you were tested ONCE for a very high blood sugar level(200+ result), does that automatically mean you have Diabetes?![]()
^^ What kind of test is this, a fasting blood sugar or a random blood sugar test?
Sedentary lifestyle kasi ako, overweight din, I am 32 by the way, and sa pamilya namin, may lahi kaming diabetes, although both parents ko eh wala pang diabetes.
I am changing my lifestyle na mga doctor, ang concern ko, as a preventive measure, is it okay na uminom ako ng ampalaya supplements? Kumakain naman ako ng ampalaya every week, yun lang, tamang praning na lang din.
Thank you!
Saka mga Doc, paano ba ang tamang fasting before FBS?
Like sa akin, I eat dinner at 7pm, yun ang last meal ko, pero ang last drink ko ng water mga 10pm, tapos ang FBS ko mga 7am nakukuha, tama pa ba yung fasting ko pag ganyan?
mc_316: Unfortunately, yes. You can seek your physician for further management of the diabetes. Diet and exercise usually is the first step in managing diabetes.
Miso: It is okay to take ampalaya supplements, but they cannot replace your anti-diabetic medicines. Some have normal FBS while having an abnormal HBA1c. Still, these cases are treated. In some institutions, they strictly enforce the 12 hour fasting rule. Some implement 10 hours fasting, some 8 hours. I would advise you to go back to your physician for follow-up.
Hello everyone.
My dad's feet has already darken and Im looking for a foot cream that's made for diabetics.
May recommendations ba kayo? Or any suggestions for foot care.
I need help.
Thanks
nag pa fbs ako kahapon and the result is 7.13 which is beyond the normal range... biglaan lang yung pagkuha nun kasi required sa work, fbs was taken at 3pm in the afternoon and my last meal was at 6:30 or 7 am... the day before i remember drinking a lot of softdrinks kasi naglaro ako ng nglaro ng basketball... now im thinking (and hoping) na baka dahil yun sa ininom kong softdrinks prior to the fbs... im planning to have an fbs again by wed or tue... ok lang ba ulitin yung fbs after ng 3 to 5 days? gusto ko kasing makasiguro....![]()
-i always feel thirsty, there are times i feel tired/weak even without doing anything, i urinate frequently (although i know this is a sign of uti. which i was diagnosed) i'm still afraid of having diabetes as well.
my question is, to conclude if someone has diabetes, do all these signs must be present?
type 1
extreme thirst
frequent urination
sudden unexplained weight loss
extreme fatigue
blurred vision
muscle cramps
nausea
vomiting
constant hunger
type 2
increased thirst
frequent urination
feeling tired and lethargic
always feeling hungry
having cuts that heal slowly
itching
skin infections
blurred vision
gradually putting on weight
mood swings
headaches
feeling dizzy
leg cramps
No. In fact it's possible for NONE of those signs or symptoms to be present a person with diabetes, especially at the earliest stages of the disease.
If you have suspicions about yourself having diabetes then have fasting blood sugar done.
Question lang po dito Guys and Docs question lang po, ano po ba ang acceptable na FBS for an applicant who is diabetic. My friend is very depressed right now because of this.
Maraming salamat sa sasagot!
There are no guidelines which say that a certain level of blood sugar is acceptable or not for employment. This is because target sugar levels are always individualized; for example, younger people generally have stricter targets compared to older people who already have complications of DM. However the fasting blood sugar levels mentioned (225, 220 mg/dL for FBS) indicate diabetes that is poorly controlled. It is certainly a wake-up call that should prompt a visit to the doctor.
