^^ If I'm not mistaken, an average of 4.00 (below) would bring you in trouble.

We cannot generally say this because it would really depend on whether or not you make it above the 4.00 (or whatever minimum GWA needed) baseline. For instance, a lot of passing mark versus a single 5.00 for a 5 unit course can be a dangerous setup.

With regard to program timeline, when QuarTerm was launched 8 years ago, generally all engineering programs have a 4-year (16 Quarters) program timeline. Except for ME, which can be completed in 14-15 terms (less than 3.5-3.75 years). But as far I know, recently, some programs have evolved back to the typical 5-year period (e.g. ECE). Hopefully someone currently studying in Mapua can help us with this.

Fortunately, hanggang first warning lang ako. More students, more profit!

Yeah in a way, maski ilang singko basta ang ave ay pasok sa standards ay okay lang. I'm on my 4th year at 30+ units na rin ang binagsak ko. Pwedeng pwede kang grumaduate in 4 years depende na yan sa sipag at diskarte mo.

I'm a civil engineering 2nd yr. student. I really wanted this course since I was a kid because my dream is to build infrastructures. But later, I realized something, I sucked with drawings. My relatives who support me with my studies live in Qatar and they told me that Civil Engineers are "untouchables" there. I'm planning to shift in Electrical Engineering.

I just want to know if drawings are really relevant with Civil Engineers because I am not with my majors yet and is Electrical Engineering is also in demand in Qatar.

You don't necessarily have to be brilliant in drawing. What you need more, as a civil engineer, is a sound engineering judgment and good mathematical skills. For us civil engineers, drawing will go to the backseat for us. I myself wasn't that good in drawing. But it didn't cause me to think otherwise of drifting away from my course (program).

Of course, as an engineer (whether you're a CE, EE, ECE, etc), you need to know how to interpret technical drawings. So if drawing is what will you make you transfer to EE or any engineering program for that matter, I don't think it will be significantly productive, unless you dream of being an electrical engineer too. So for me, if you think drawing will be the only impediment on your CE track, I'd suggest you stick to your dream.

As for finding a job, I'm sure you'd find one anywhere; not just in Qatar. Everything is possible if you have a strong base of education.

I really don't see the point as well. They're making an illogical move about this extension of program timeline.

    Very well said!
"drawings" = not a hindrance for your success its all about WTFOMGBBQ base education/foundation you possess ^_^

Agree rin ako kay sir tophe but if he wants to work in Qatar because of his relatives, I will study either Geology or Petroleum Eng'g because of Qatar's rich oil industry. The graduates of these courses are very in demand in the first world countries and they are earning up to 6-digit salary per month.

i'm really good with phyics and math.. my only problem is drawing.. i wasn't really good with drawing things because i work very messy. Is there a major subj. in Ce that requires good drawings?? i'm really confused right now..

    @ onihime

    CHE CE ME or EE?

  15. #35
    @ebyong
ChE and ME but they work in oil depots and refineries. Unlike Geologists and Petroleum Engineers that deals with exploration and monitoring of hydrocarbons beneath the surface.
