I have had root canals, one of them failed and had to be extracted. I don't want to go through that again, to be truthful. I'd rather have dentures. I'm still maintaining the two teeth that were operated on, and now I have to have 2 dental jackets priced at P4000 each.

how long before a tooth that undergone RCT discolor? Thanks in advance. How much bleaching if only one tooth?

  3. #83
^ Teeth which have been root canaled usually last about 5 to 10 years. To make them last longer, you have the option of having them crowned ( the crown needs to be replaced every 10 years).

When a tooth dies, after a while it may or may not discolor. I cannot give you an exact time frame, unfortunately. For a root canaled tooth, instead of bleaching it, you could always have it crowned with either a Porcelain-fused-to-metal crown or an All-porcelain crown which do not discolor , so bleaching will not be necessary.

if may abscess yung gums kaya ba matanggal lahat yung abscess ng isang session/meeting lang? a dentist told me na 4 sessions daw para fully mawala lahat yung abscess

  5. #85
^Yes it will take time to heal depending on the size of the periapical infection ( this can be seen in the x-ray). The larger the lession, the longer the time it will take for it to heal.

I also answered your pm. I'm a bit confused as to what's really infected as unfortunately I cannot see your tooth.

    please help.....

    thanks po.

^ Which tooth will be rootcanaled? An incisor, a canine, a premolar or a molar? An upper or a lower tooth?

Different teeth have different number of canals. Incisors usually have one, rarely will they have two canals. Canines have one. Premolars have either one or two. Molars have two, three, four or more.

Does your dentist know you have hyperthyroidism? Is your hyperthyroidism controlled? You'll most likely need medical clearance from your physician before dental anesthesia can be placed on you.

i think i have to call my dentist and tell her, para kung may hingin siya na clearance from my doctor eh makakahingi ako. thanks for taking time to answer my question. thanks again.

    God bless you indeed.

i just wanna share this.. dati kasi i went to a dentist to consult what's the best for my upper right canine (pangil) medyo malaki na yung sira pero never pa siya sumakit, nung makita niya, agad niya sinabi ng root canal lang ang option or extraction, so parang natakot naman ako kaya the following week i visited another dentist for second opinion, then after thorough examination sabi niya pede pa daw ng pasta, so right away nag pa pasta ako sa kanya and my tooth is fine

i guess it's a good thing din na humingi ng second opinion, in my case it really saved my tooth and my budget

^ Hello plinky888 . I honestly haven't. From what I remember ( I attended the lecture) it's not something we can buy commercially. We have to prepare it ourselves or better, have a pharmacist mix a batch for us.

Hi doc plinky888. I hope dr. smilewarrior wouldn't mind if I answer this one. In one meeting of the ESP, they gave out leaflets re: the PDA's stand on LSTR. Of course, they are against it. But one attendee shared that she was able to do it on a patient with a difficult endo case. So far ok naman daw ang results pero hindi pa siya nakakapag-obturate at that time. We asked her to come back and perhaps give a case presentation pero hindi na siya nakabalik. The thing is, obviously it was able to address at some point the symptoms (pain, pus) pero still the adverse effect of directly placing the medicine into the canal is still unknown. Best direct agent pa rin to be placed into the canal is calcium hydroxide.

^ I don't mind . Please feel free to chime in anytime.

To plinky888. I came across a document similar to the ones they distributed in ESP. I got this one from PPDSI's website. Hope this one helps.

hi just want to share my own experience of root canal treatment
I experienced it twice and the first time was really painful but tolerable, it was 3 or four roots in the lower molar I got sick afterwards yung nilaganat so i just took a pain reliever medicine twice a day , it was 3 sessions then
I'm happy bout the result because at first parang mabigat yung feeling kasi diba replace ng parang red na papel yung root na inalis pero ngayon parang ok na as in.. wala ng problema
yung itong huli yung pangalawa... wala nang anestecia(sorry wrong spelling) kasi the root is dead kaya wala na akong ma feel na pain ok naman... the best.... wala na akong problem sa teeth ko....
so now I learn from this forum na ang root canal is good for 5 years so next 5 years ko na lang siya pro-problemahin.... hehehehehehe

Hello pretenred1!

  18. #98
    ^ ah yun *** tawag dun...thanks!

hello po docs, tanong ko lang po, I just had RCT awhile ago and I was wondering if I can exercise or go to the gym after it or should I wait for it to heal? How many days should I wait>?
