[MERGED] Donate your organs?

I'm very keen on this issue. Unfortunately, there are a lot of misconceptions about organ donorship in this country. I'm hoping someday that our driver's license will have a provision, just like in the US, where you can sign in case something happens to you, saying you're willing to donate your organs. Given that situation, are you willing to be a card-carrying organ donor? Why or why not? Please share your thoughts.

I'm willing to become an organ donor. After all, what the heck am I gonna do with them organs if I'm already six feet under? Cemetery soil is rich enough as it is. What are the misconceptions about organ donation that keep people from doing it?

Btw, where do I sign up? <;g>;

Ada: Some people think that once you carry around an organ donor card and you meet an accident, and even if you're not brain dead they're likely to harvest your organs. Then there are others who think that you'll need a closed casket once they've harvested. Oftentimes when you approach relatives of braindead patients to see if they're willing to donate maybe the cornea or the kidney, galit na galit sila. Marami pang reason, e. But those two are the ones I can think of at the top of my head.

MO: You don't smoke. You're young. You don't have any systemic diseases that I know of. So you can donate.

Let me rephrase the question: If a loved one becomes braindead, will you be willing to sign an organ donor consent?

I would! Ewan ko lang kung papasa ako, pero sa mga naputulan ng daliri sa new year I'm sure I would hehehe...

This thread reminds me of that prisoner who donated his hands and legs...

Ira...

I did! I signed my driver's license as an organ donor and I do encourage everyone I know to become one. I believe it's the greatest gift anyone can give. A gift of Life.

But honestly, human as I am, it is my fear as well. ***Ooops, this is not my medical opinion so as to prejudice the practice. This is my personal view...Blame it to mad doctor carnage movies...***

You can get an organ donor card at the National Kidney Institute in East Avenue, Q.C.

The local driver's licence application now asks for consent for organ donorship when you become braindead due to an accident, but the card-type license still does not reflect your answer at its back. I hope they'll start implementing this soon.

Talking brain-dead donors

judging from their posts, i surmise some people here at PEx can already donate.

like me!

seriously: yes, i'd donate my organs upon my demise and would sign a consent form for a deceased loved one.

am willing to donate my organs.....if they can use my brain marrow, or my retinas, or my liver....why not....

if it was up to me too, i'd be willing to donate a loved one's organs...nde naman nila kukunin yung buong ulo or mga appendages eh....organ nga lang eh...so malamang yung mga nakalutang sa loob ng katawan nya...

I've had my Organ Donor Card from NKI for years.. you can just ask for a card from the hospital's Lobby Information Desk.. At least that's where i got mine long ago.. Good to know there are a lot of people here who are willing to donate organs..

How to be an organ donor?

Hi, just wondering where can I get a yellow card. I remember what my highschool teacher told us that you can donate organs of your body when you die and by this you can help other people. thanks!

Go to national Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) in East Avenue, Quezon City near SSS and Heart Center. GO to HOPE office. Better yet visit their website.
