Thumbs up Have a productive summer. Join the 9th YES Camp!

The 9th Youth for Environment Summer (YES) Camp comes at a time when we all need to be prepared to respond to natural calamities. Typhoons, droughts, floods, landslides and the likes that hit our country served to remind us of our vulnerability and helplessness. The recent tragedies in the world over underscored the necessities for us to be ready at all times. The question is – “are we truly ready?”

With the theme "Ako ay Handa", YES CAMP responds to this question on May 1-5, 2011 at the Teachers Camp, Baguio City National High School and CAP John Hay Trade and Cultural Center in Baguio City. This year's event will focus on inculcating Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Preparedness among the Filipino Youth. It is anchored on the implementation of Republic Act. No. 9512 and Republic Act No. 9729 also known as the Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008 and the Climate Change Act of 2009, respectively.

The YES CAMP is a joint project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Special Concerns Officer-Youth Desk (DENR-SCO-Youth Desk), Kabataang Sama-Samang Maglilingkod, Inc. (KASAMA), Miriam Public Education and Awareness Campaign for the Environment (PEACE) and the Department of Education through the Center for Students and Co-Curricular Affairs (DepEd-CSCA). It promises fun and interactive plenary and breakout sessions, environmental contests, outdoor games, other learning activities and exciting evening extravaganza.

The YES CAMP is open to all pupils and students from public and private schools, officers and members of various school-based organizations including teachers, principals, Education and District Supervisors, and other education officials nationwide. The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Officers at all levels are also highly encouraged to attend based on the DILG Memorandum circular 2010-139 issued by DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo. Interested parties may visit the DepEd-CSCA website (www.deped-csca.com) or DepEd-CSCA Facebook Fan page (www.facebook.com/csca.deped) for the copy of the DepEd Memorandum No. 33 s. 2011. CHED has also endorsed YES Camp through a memorandum from CHED Chairperson Patricia B. Licuanan dated February 15, 2011.

I'd rather send her to a coed school like Brent or DLSZ. We didn't speak straight English in school, at least not everyone. But I think they're changing that now. It all depends on which clique you hang out with. Most of our rich English speakers went to college in Ivy League universities. Although not alot from my barkada went to the top universities in the country, alot of my batchmates did.

What I absolutely HATE about St. Paul is their hypocrisy when it comes to religiousity. Just because they require their students to pray decades upon decades of the rosary doesn't automatically mean that the students are actually praying. I've had the best naps during these prayers. Religion shouldn't be forced. But I guess it's tradition for them. It's like they want you to be like most of the school admin - nuns. I think that's why once Paulinians (from Pasig) get a taste of freedom, they really go wild.

I think we were groomed to be independent women. I read in previous posts how Assumptionistas are groomed to be powerful wives and how ICAns are to be bussinesswomen, we were just trained to be self-sufficient. I speak for myself when I say that, I mean that's the only good thing that I could say I got from them. They actually teach their students to cook, budget, sew and even how to do the laundry by hand in their Home Economics subject. I just think that they are a bit slow in their Math curriculum but in English and Research subjects they really know what to teach.

As for other schools, come to think of it, most (if not all) the Assumptionistas I know look forward to being a wife and are more excited about marriage than other female friends from other schools. Kulasas are very easy to get along with and they can make good small-talk, excellent heart-to-heart conversations and they do well in intellectual exchanges. I also went to Miriam and I didn't like it there. I only know one person from that school so I can't conclude anything. You have to strike the right cord with Povedans. They are difficult to approach but they aren't all bad. I have no idea about ICAns cuz I never met one.
I'm from batch 2010 of St. Paul, Pasig. Most of my batch mates speak straight English and straight Filipino.

i've known a lot of girls from these schools and in my opinion, the girls from..
poveda are high maintenance girls, most are all-out taglish speaking but doesn't mean they speak nonsense.
woodrose have good breeding and very studious but quiet. they choose not to bother with everyone else.
miriam seeks challenge in everything especially in academics, and they are humble but proud (contradicting but true). probably the result of not being pampered by having airconditioned classrooms and social actions every week.
assumption sanlo are same with miriam only they are not as humble for the reason that a lot of them but not all come from really rich families.
st. paul pasig are definitely mixed nuts. may jologs, may sossy, may matalino, may bobo, may matino, may addict, may girly may tibo and the list goes on. although the same thing applies to the other all girls schools, none of them seem to match the term 'mixed nuts' perfectly the way spcp does. they are quite vulgar too. a bit loud. but fun.
st. scho manila are the same with spcp girls although i think the debate team of st.scho is a plus.
st. theresa's college are simple. really, i can't seem to think of anything else to say other than that. they are not as exposed and heard of as the other schools mentioned but they do have a say in terms of academics.
school of the holy spirit are the same as st. theresa's girls only more exposed and heard of.
We really are a bunch of 'mixed nuts'. LOL

    POVEDA!(Biased)

I'm from batch 2012 and I had a fantastic stay in Poveda. We may speak English most of the time, but HEY we have a lot of activities where speaking Filipino is required. Intrams were the best because our entire batch FLASH MOBBED in the middle of the field. The curriculum is excellent and we have IWs (Individual Work) where we have to run to other classes just to do "cards" (consider them mini projects).

HAHA super duper biased, but hey I love my school
