    Sutherland to make substantial investment in the Philippines

The company is building a new presence in Manila scheduled to be operational next month, employing over 500 professionals in the initial phase.

    Another US firm puts up call center

    While industry players and concerned parties have raised fears of shortage of qualified English proficient manpower, US-based business process outsourcing firm Sutherland Global Services Inc. has downplayed such problem saying language is definitely not a problem.


    The company is putting up its own call center here.

    The company was in fact optimistic, saying they expect $20 million in revenues on its first 12 to 18 months of operation here. They will start hiring with an initial 500 workers ramping it up to 1,000 by December this year and a total of 3,000 agents over the long term.

    Dilip Vellodi, Sutherland chairman and chief executive officer, said that while they standard test and hiring requirements for applicants, language did not figure out as a problem.

    "We have not encountered challenges as of yet and we don’t anticipate in the near future either," Vellodi said.

    Vellodi stressed that in any country that they locate, they ensure that their manpower have the right skills for the job.

    To ensure a steady source of manpower, Vellodi said they will partner with educational institutions and see if what are the other areas where they can expand their Philippine operations.

    Vellodi even cited the manpower for their English proficiency and the huge pool of graduates with accounting and financial services degree.

    He further said that its decision to locate in the Philippines was a result of a six-month study where they considered everything including cost and the infrastructure facilities of the country.

    Its first Philippine operation will be located at the Export Bank Plaza."We hope we can be just as successful here as in India," Vellodi said noting they have 3,000 employes in India and is still expanding.

    Hi there! I applied this afternoon through Asia Partnership, and I passed the screening process, but I was advised that they will be calling me re: my sked for the final interview, because there are no available skeds yer, as it depends on the client. It'd be possible that it'd take 2 weeks before I'd be given my sked for the final interview!

    hi I'm from the 1st Batch of Sutherland. Our training started last May 16 and will end on July 1. July 4 2005 will be official launching of our company. Saya ** mga brits and australians ang mga trainors namin. British culture familiarization and accent training. Parang ka level na namin si Harry Potter. E2 pa naakakasilaw talaga ang sweldo kc training pa lang suweldo na ang marerecieve mo hindi allowance.
