    stay in treasures of bolinao na lang... the beach there is much much much much better than the one in puerto del sol. IMO even much better than the ones in hundred islands. i'm not too sure if it's a good idea to ride a boat from bolinao to 100 islands.

    i don't think bolinao is a good jump-off point for 100 islands, but the place is wonderful!

    Yep, that's the shortest route. province namin sa bani, pangasinan. i suggest that you follow the route posted above. tapos pag pauwi na kayo, take the coastal route kahit mas malayo ng konti, baba kayo sa agno, dasol, sta. cruz, candelaria, iba,.... then subic. pwede na rin kayo mag-stop sa candelaria to visit potipot island kahit day trip lang. oo nga pala, paved na yung road going to the lighthouse ng bolinao kaya you can bring your car sa taas na rin.

    Talking Bolinao from Rough Guides Philippines

    Here's the info on Bolinao from my trusty Rough Guides.

    ========================================================

    Bolinao and Around (page 395-396)

    The landscape around the town of Bolinao, thirty minutes by bus west of Lucap along the coast, is one of cascading waterfalls, rolling hills and white beaches. But the most valuable asset in this small municipality is its 200 square kilometers of coral reefs, which serve as the spawning ground for ninety percent of Bolinao's fish catch. More than 350 species of vertebrates, invertebrates and plants are harvested from the reef and appear in Bolinao's markets each year. The town rose to national prominence in the 1990s, when it was announced that a consortium intended to build a cement factory on the shorline. Residents protested that this would destroy the ecosystem and the long-term viability of Bolinao's coastal resources. Their protests made the front pages and won national support and, as a result, the plan was shelved.

    You can reach Bolinao easily by bus or jeepney from Alaminos. There are only a couple of sights in the town itself. The small Bolinao Museum (Mon-Sat 9am-4pm), on Rizal Street opposite Cape Bolinao High School, contains art, geology, botany and zoology materials collected in the area. The Church of St. James Fortress, also known as Bolinao Church is in the main square close to the museum, built by the Augustinians in 1609, it houses rare wooden statues and an antique altar with Astec masks brought by galleon from Mexico.

    The area to the west of the town has some pleasant, relaxed beaches and resorts and is a good place to unwind in an unspoilt rural atmosphere, while a 22-kilometer-long barrier reef offshore, near Santiago Island, offers some wonderful solitary snorkelling. To explore the reef you can rent a banca for the day either at Bolinao wharf (two blocks north of the main road) or at one of the nearby beach resorts.

    However, the best beach in Bolinao area is Patar Beach, about thirty minutes west of town, which has fine white sand, good surf and few visitors, especially during the week. You can reach it by jeepney from Rizal Street in Bolinao. Nearby is the old Cape Bolinao Lighthouse, constructed in 1905 and the second tallest lighthouse in the country. There's an easy path to the base of the building, and the views across the South China Sea are worth the climb. Nor far offsore lie a number of old Spanish galleons and Chinese junks that local wisdom says contain treasure. Unfortunately, there are no accredited dive operators in the area, so your only chance of diving here is to bring your own equipment.

    There are a couple of places to stay at Patar Beach, Bing's Beach Resort (Tel. 0912/856 1585) has very simple but adequate and affordable huts on the sand, while Treasures of Bolinao Resort (Tel. 0916/372 1979) features more substantial doubles and a modest restaurant. Dutch Beach Resort (Tel. 0912/311 6540) is a pretty place on the beach about 4km before you reach Patar. Next door is Tropical Hut Beach Resort, a modest back-to-nature place with wooden huts and a shared bathroom. In the barangay of Arenda, ten minutes' drive along the road west of Bolinao sits Rock Garden Resort (Tel. 0912/313 9553 or 075/5542876). The beach here is not the best in the area but Rock Garden is a comfortable place to stay, with spick and span double rooms and a swimming pool.

    ========================================================

    Hope this helps!!!

    It has been very difficult to find good quality pictures of Bolinao on the net...till now. View it here.

    It seems like Bolinao has a good potential of becoming the next surf destination. Check out the photos here:

    how many hours from manila to bolinao?

  20. #20
    6 - 7 hours depending on the driving speed. the road from alaminos to bolinao is almost deserted. you can drive for several kms without seeing another vehicle. very nice!

    drive safely tho
