Internet access is as important to the legal profession as it is to all other professions. Legal research has been revolutionized by the world wide web. There is almost nothing that has been printed on books or journals that cannot be accessed on any website.
Take Philippine jurisprudence, for example. Today, ALL decided cases by the Supreme Court can be read through lawphil.net. The same is true for all statutes, and many issuances by government agencies.
FYI, International Law is on-line! Decided cases by the ICJ, the ECHR, the HRC, the IACt.HR, ICTY, ICTR, ICC, UN Documents, treaties, even some commentaries of most highly qualified publicists are all on-line!
Aside from these obvious benefits, the internet is vital to the all of our lives. Yes, facebook, twitter, e-mail, pinoyexchange have become a daily part of our lives. Imagine communicating with your friends and loved ones abroad without it. Yes, in Ateneo, we value the holistic development of our students.
Communication between blockmates, for example, is facilitated by web-based groups like facebook and yahoogroups. Dissemination of information to classes are almost entirely done through the internet. Reading assignments, test coverage, and important class announcements are often announced on-line (if they weren't announced in class).
Unless you live in the 90's, denying the importance of internet access, is simply preposterous.
Besides, if you read my entire post, you would note that internet access is ONLY a tiny part of my argumentation for Ateneo's status as the best law school in the country. Whoever said that Ateneo does not teach the "fundamentals" of the law? Rubbish (yes, pun is definitely intended).
I now cede the next post to you for your sur-rebuttal.
