can you think of a reason why jordan shouldn't be the best player ever?

we know jordan, by far, is arguably the best player ever...

now, can you think of any reason why jordan shouldn't be the best player ever? and why?

    (parang pang-job interview ba? hehe)

    ^hahaha

Kobe's name is nowhere to be found on the thread title. Me thinks that it is the Kobe haters who keep on gluing KB to MJ more than the fans. Motherfreaking pathetic haters! hahaha

I can think of a lot of reasons:

    1. Wasn't the true leader of the team (Bulls writers admitted it was Pippen).
    2. Trash talked and was arrogant against opponents.
    3. Wasn't the perfect teammate as he was reported to have punched Steve Kerr, called Kwame Brown a flaming f a g g o t, told his team mates not to pass the ball to Bill Cartwright who retaliated by saying he would physically hurt MJ if he continued with his plan. In fact his Wizards team mates asked team owner Abe Pollin that they be traded if Jordan returns as GM of the Wizards.
    4. Had his coach fired (Doug Collins).
    5. Re-hired his former coach (Doug Collins) with the Wizards but made him his lapdog and overruled him at every turn even when he (Jordan) was playing.
    6. He couldn't play all the positions.

Greatest Off All Time for me? Earvin "Magic" Johnson.

I could actually agree to Jordan being the best ever, but I don't think that he is beyond reproach.

The fact that he quit the game after winning three championships just because the game didn't challenge him just doesn't fly with me. I mean, how can someone who supposedly loves the game leave the game at the absolute peak of his career? Jordan has always had a shadow of doubt over his head regarding his inability to lead his team further into the playoffs and after three successful attempts, he goes and quits. I can't believe how people actually find that great.

Of course, he came back and dominated - no thanks to calls and a tailor-made final page with that obvious no call on the Russell shove --- but the fact remains that he left the game at a time that he shouldn't have.

^just look at his overall achievements and contributions to the game of basketball alone and by the way there's no such thing as perfect human being. kobe? he's not even close.

well, it's all speculation but i think he retired from basketball the first time because apparently, the mafia had his father killed because he didn't sell the '92-'93 NBA Championship to them.

and that "shove" wasn't really a shove, was it? Russell just lost his balance because he couldn't keep up with MJ. besides, nobody over 200 pounds would go down that easily after getting "shoved" like that.

    I agree with KobeWanKenobi's #6 argument.

  14. #74
jordan is not a magic johnson caliber type who is the best player ever forme.

  15. #75
Because in a couple of years, Lebron James will overtake him. Barely past his teenhood, LBJ singlehandedly took his team to the playoffs, scored a couple of crunchtime playoff baskets, broke scoring records, and brought the Pistons to 7 games. At this age, MJ was still playing at North Carolina... Just wait a few more years.

Pretty good arguments... He's still the best for me.. hehehe

ako sa number #1 hindi agree kay Kobewankenobi... choker si pippen at hindi nga nya kayang dalhin yung bulls nawala si MJ eh. Kung maalala mo yung huling play na dapat kay pippen pero tinuro nya si Kukoc

  18. #78
Being a leader is different from being clutch. And Pippen may have been braindead when he decided to sit out against the Knicks after Phil Jackson wanted Kukoc to take the last shot in the playoffs, he has played spectacularly when the stakes are high such as guarding Magic, playing man-zone against the Lakers in the 2000 playoffs and many more.

Pippen's leadership though is important as attributed by the Bulls writers. Jordan's highly arrogant attitude even in practice rubbed his own team mates the wrong way. Pippen was, according to the Bulls writers, the glue that held the team together. He was the mediator between the players and the coaching staff. And he was the one lone player who could speak to Jordan.

  19. #79
can you think of a reason why jordan shouldn't be the best player ever?

no. 24 (formerly no. 8) of the lakers. he will be the best ever before his career is over.

ok, got to play the devil's advocate.

    1. not the initiator of the offense is more appropriate. that was when he stopped playing the point.

    2. has nothing to with it.

    3. all unconfirmed and all has nothing to do with his on court play.

    4. again, unconfirmed. didn't the bulls won six championships after that?

    5. has nothing to do with jordan the bulls player. didn't magic disrupt the lakers team when he returned?

    6. playing all five positions would be possible given enough height. it also means playing it on both sides of the court. maybe in the PBA where being 6'6 is enough for a center position.

defense is as important as offense. it should be factored in in deciding who the best is.

one on one, i think jordan could beat magic. but bulls championship teams against the magic's eighties team would be no contest. lakers would own them.
