me thinks there are 3 events in the next 6 weeks that will very much indicate where this market is headed:
> VAT being passed in the senate will bring uber growth to the market. when this happens, all bets will be out and for the good. better make sure u have bought low before this event bec if you did, ud make lots of money.
> MWC IPO will be a first test of market sentiments vis a vis uptrending market vs moody's downgrade & secuiry concerns. not for the faint of heart, though. "safest" holding time should be 8 trading days.
> SMIC apparently is H-U-G-E, price at P230.00! whattttttt??? 230 big ones. its size has the potential to zap all availble funds in the market. traders will need to pre-terminate their time deposits for this one. me thinks this will be a real sentoments and technical test on the strength of the market.
the ipos will be a good indicator on how strong are the convictions of the investors on this market. but its still a high risk market. enter with caution.
(please read disclaimers at the start of the thread.)
the others are welcome to contradict my points. but i have not had a broker who actually gave me good advise. most of them by the way did not have a research dept, thus they were unable to give me technicals. (not that i base my trades on them....)Originally Posted by Metrophile

i used to have a broker who just graduated from a US ivy league school and it was great dealing with her. she had passion and excitement that she shared with me. on the one time she gave me a reco that i bit on, it bombed and i lost a few. she apologized but i didnt take it against her. she was pretty good at what she did. don't know if thats something you would like.
This is number one in my book. A broker can get very busy once in a while, and some orders can actually be forgotten. You must be assured that when your broker says "done" on the phone, the deal really gets done (especially when you are selling).speed/accuracy/timeliness of buys/sells
Actually the indicative price is P230 to P300 plus the issuer has the right to set the price above P300 under the proper market conditions. Ouch!!!Originally Posted by abcxyz

No big surprises.
Is citysec speedy, reliable and provide charts with all the useful stuff? Any background would be great for everyone.
its all good. were hopping up again. hope we get higher highs!
cant seem to find the link on what are the requirements to open an account and commission. where are those things in the site? (side comment - its an impressive and very professional looking business website, but NOT very consumer friendly for new clients)Originally Posted by Shinrai

but the p6 on a good rebound is good news.
brokers on pex, question lang :
1. will the market continue the upward trend next week?
2. regarding manila water, its been written everywhere that its oversubscribed, is it good for short term or long term investments?? will the company's fundamentals (financial ratios) make it a blue chip stocks?
Long weekend fuels stock buying
looks like analysts are looking extending the bull next week. it appears it was a very short-lived correction. it appears it was just that a healthy correction and not the start of a nosedive.
i think the market is wating for news. read the papers on the weekend, if there are good news, it will be a strong bull.
mwc? i like utilities. i consider them as long term investments. and a BIG PLUS is its an ayala company. two good things going for the issue.
(disclaimer : i am not a broker. and please read the disclaimers and dsiclosure at the start of the thread.)
can u guys recommend books/materials to read about stock investing and managing portfolio? tnx.
travy -- go scroll up on the thread. i think some people have suggested books to read.
hello all of ye on pex. just came in. sure hope i'd gather some good notes with all of ya. got some manila water shares (called the issuer for a reservation as soon as news of the IPO came out in the paper. guess, thats d way to do it.) Question: what's a recommended website on the how's and tricks of stock trading? and ey, is SMIC IPO a good buy?
regarding manila water ipo.... during the last week of february, i asked my contacts for allocation of mw shares, but they can only guarantee a third of my request, just today, they called and asked how many shares i want...daming pa daw shares available. so i feel the oversubscribe is just a media hype.....
Feeling ko maganda lang yung MWC kung nag initial offer ka @ 6.5
Tubig kasi, pero malay mo matamaan ng El Nino...
Bili na lang ako sa listing.
it looks like the p6 is poised for a breakaway once again sometime end next week. the bulls are back in the market. the budget being passed is good news and can buoy sentiments somewhat. the mwc ipo will get the market all heated up. be selective.
forgot about mwc! been concentrating on mining and ALI this week.
I suggest that you try citiseconline.com its a lot better than bpitrade. They have a page in their website that tells you what is being bought up and sold down, stock details page that tells you the volume of transaction all in real time. They also have the transaction page where you can see if there are any foreign funds flowing into certain issues, as they say, "go where the fund flows." This will really help you make better decisions in what issues to invest in.
To open an account you would need P25,000 and a commission charge of 0.25%
