Jodi plays key role in ‘Birhen ng Manaoag’
JODI Sta. Maria, ABS-CBN Talent Center artist and host of "Star Circle Quest" showcases her dramatic prowess in "Birhen ng Manaoag," a film that tells how the famous shrine in Pangasinan started and presents Marian miracles in the Philippines. "Birhen ng Manaoag" is produced by Cine Suerte and directed by Ben "M7" Yalung. The screenplay is by Palanca award-winning writer Chris Vallez.
In "Birhen ng Manaoag," Jodi plays Ana, single mom and student who is making a documen-tary about the Virgin of Manaoag and Ma-rian miracles. In the course of her work she meets several chrac-ters such as Linda (Joyce Jimenez), a leukemia patient; Paul Rosales (Marco Alca-raz), a seminarian who has lost his faith in God; and Marie (Bianca King), an unwed mom who was disowned by her mother.
Linda, Paul and Marie are just among the few who will accompany Ana on her journey of faith and who will reveal to her the true meaning of miracles.
Screenwriter Chris Vallez spent months and months of research and writing to come up with the story. "Birhen ng Manaoag" is the first produced screenplay of this 24-year old playwright and stage director. (Previously, Chris had won second place in the Palanca’s one-act play in Filipino category for his piece entitled, "Twenty Questions.")
Chris reveals that the role of Ana is tailor-made for Jodi. "Marami kaming pinagdaan na choices to play Ana but when I was writing, I really wrote the script with Jodi in mind."
