    Sux,

Akala ko nun UP at UST ang archi na parang sa medicine or UP and Ateneo sa Law, I was terribly wrong.

Don't get me wrong. Now I know UP may be at par with those two aforementioned schools, in consideration of empirical data at hand. Still, mas kilala (para sa akin) and UST College of Architecture. No offense meant.

Oh... that was meant as an independent post. Hindi sya reply kay The_New_Yorker. How can I edit this?

i want to speak on behalf of UP college of architecture.
i want young aspiring students out there to clear misconceptions about it. cuz when i was still in highschool i referred to this thread. i actually went to UP arki with these misconceptions in mind, and wishing that i shouldve gone to UST or mapua. but slowly these misconceptions disappeared. UP ARKI IS NOTHING LIKE WHAT THEY ACCUSE IT TO BE HERE IN THIS THREAD. i usually just lurk around threads, but this one was getting too offensive not to be defensive. im sorry for the long post ahead, but if you wish to be informed, PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS.

let me clear these things up one by one.
-by group ang thesis ng up arki.
---NOPE. it used to be daw, back in the 60's or 70's was it? but the policy was loooooong gone. if you visit our college early march every year you'll get to see our theses exhibit, haraya. see for yourself kung by groups nga siya. PS, get ready to be amazed
    .
    .
-hindi magaling magdesign ang mga taga-UP
---i have no idea why someone would say this. this argument might have been formulated upon the premise that design is limited to aesthetic characteristics or "pampaganda." oh come on. architecture is not just "pampaganda," it's all about finding solutions to problems in the built environment. seriously, guys? you're in architecture school and you judge the school's portfolio on how nice the building looks? have you even considered material selection, socio-cultural considerations, environmental impacts, functionality, conceptual quality, sustainability and GREEN design applications, bla bla bla, dami pa kaya? and you decided to say the design isn't nice kasi plain tingnan yung bldg. i say: you, sir, are one dumb architect.
---people might equate design to presentation quality. in that case, i admit, UP students tend to forget that they have to present these in a way so as to convince their clients to "buy" the design. compared to other schools, one may notice the lack of training we have on advanced computer visualization programs or on manual rendering techniques. but what it lacks in presentation, it makes up for overall conceptual quality. in up arki, you really see INTELLIGENT DESIGNS NOT LIMITED TO AESTHETIC QUALITY.
    .
    .
-walang sikat na architect o firm ang UP Arki
---Locsin, palafox, manosa and many more. bakit di sila galing UP? yang mga yan nag-aaral sa UST noong wala pa o kaka-establish pa lamang ng UP arki. i mean, it's only half UST's age, so in terms of prominence, no question, UST is no. 1. and this is no mean feat ha. I applaud UST for producing excellent graduates. haters gonna hate. haha
---popularity isn't the proper measure of an architect's skill, i believe. what's sad about being in architecture is that you only become well-known if you're the designer. hayy.. DESIGNING ISN'T THE ONLY FIELD ARCHITECTS ARE IN. sige nga, out of the tens of thousands ng graduates ng arki schools, ilan tingin niyo magiging designers? maybe less than 5-10% lang nga ata eh. and out of that 10%, .05% lang ang magiging kilala. so stop bragging about having the best graduates, only to name a few 10-20 people being good. (bash not intended. peace lang)
---take note that in these popular firms, UP grads also work. the owner/principal gets the fame whenever a design is said to be very good, but we must take into consideration the little people in the firm who worked hard for it, dapat nga magpasalamat sila na ang galing ng mga nagtatrabaho para sa firm eh, and that goes not only for UP grads but also to the nameless architects from UST, FEU, SLU, Mapua, etc. kasi di lang naman taga-UP ang bumubuhay sa firms na to eh it's a collaborative effort
---for the people who equate popularity to wealth, jan ka nagkakamali. just ask our professors here in UP arki. you probably dont know their firms, but look at the cars they drive PERROOO HA. kung pera ang habol mo sa architecture, i think it's best for you to shift out, as in, seriously, GTFO. architecture is a course you have to love not because of the money but because you're passionate about it
    .
    .
---i think there's this standard all architecture schools have to follow. i'm not so sure. if ever UST nga ang standard na yun, then very good! UST is a fine school to set standards on. i don't see anything wrong with that. i don't see what's to rub in our faces either.
    .
    .
---palaging around 30 lang ang nagtatake ng boards from UP. i think you guys know that UP is synonymous with excellence. and here we prefer quality over quantity. the college has had a 100% passing rate the last several years while consistently getting grads into the top 10. TATAK UP. with UP, expect only the best. and this, i believe is UP's contribution, to produce the best and most refined graduates. but let me counter my argument right there (baliw eh no? haha). there was this educated post by chapter_pro saying that it's all different when it comes to really working as a professional. exam rankings won't matter any more. it's just an exam. i agree completely. it's how you continue tradition of honor and excellence that counts.
---Arkitekto para sa bayan. these are words that we stand for. As iskolars ng bayan, we are determined to help our country in whichever way possible, and we do that through architecture. we don't graduate having ambitions of only getting our names under the spotlight. if ever we do, however, we intend it to be because of the aforementioned cause. we are architects who care about the country. we intend to design for the people.
    .
    .
    .
i apologize if my post is so long and seems overly defensive. it cannot be helped. i wanted to disprove their claims, that's all. i just thought i had to stop these people from messing up the college's name.
i also apologize if some points may seem directed towards UST. kasi namaaaaan. you people are the meanest bashers sa buong thread. huhuhu. nakakainit ng ulo rin naman. HAHA. =)) like okirrify's post. ayan, tuloy.
come to think of it, i don't believe some of these people are from UST or are even into architecture.
i also hope people here can talk in a more intelligent and friendly manner.
    .
GUYS, we are all architects/architecture students. why bother with the divisions? i don't get why we have to bash other schools just because we think we are the best. why can't we elevate the field of architecture, instead? or better yet, make the whole world aware of how great the Filipino architect is? because no matter what school you come from, WE ARE ALL FILIPINO ARCHITECTS, this is something we should categorize ourselves under. not a UP architect, not a thomasian architect, not a tamaraw architect, not a mapuan architect, and so on and so forth. we don't see Koolhaas, gehry, kahn, hadid, and le corbusier bragging about their schools, do we? NOPE. heck, si Wright nga walang degree, but look at him, in every architecture history book. they don't do dirty stuff these guys do, rather, they focus on furthering the cause of the profession, and i do believe this is what we should aim for AND NOT ON BRAGGING ABOUT YOUR SCHOOLS AND BASHING THE OTHER SCHOOLS. has it ever done you good? a better question, has it led you to become a better architect? I DONT THINK SO. it pays to be more constructive, guys. bragging won't get you anywhere. let alone pulling others down
    .
for people like me before who referred to this thread for info on which school to go to for college, PLEASE. let the trolls here be as immature as they want to be. let me tell you that the education you'll get from these diff schools is basically the same. i repeat, BASICALLY THE SAME. the school might contribute a bit but still, it just boils down to how you will use it to become a great architect.
thanks for reading, i hope i've enlightened you somehow.

  11. #2531
lakas mang bash ng mga taga-espana. as if UST arki sila. hahaha. you have to brag about a course you're not even taking to feed your ego? pity. i wish you will grow up. clearly you don't have the emotional maturity that most UP freshmen have. majority of you also don't have the brains too. just look at your grammar. and i'm guessing most of you trolls are in your twenties. pity pity pity.
