Worsening Air Pollution : A reality?

People do you think that air pollution is getting worst here in Makati, Manil, GMA.

Everytime I go out here in Makati, I can't help but cover my nose.

You can really smell the smoke coming from buses and jeeps. This is not so in the late 90's. But now, everywhere you go, you can't breath.

I hope that they ban gas, and diesel as fuel and resort instead on natural compressed gas.

It was worst way back then..say in the 70s.
Going to Manila from Sta. Rosa, you can practically see Manila area covered with dark fog, looming and hanging all over indifferent population. No wonder lung cancer is on the rise..all those people getting sick now after being exposed to pollution.

Try going to the overlooking part in Antipolo, makikita ninyo sa hapon ang makapal na smog na nakabalot sa Metro Manila, no kidding.

That smog will shorten the life of people within it.

    I prefer electric vehicles.

Even though there are provincial buses running on natural gas already, Natural gas should remain in the power plants.

Tanda nyo ba yung mga air pollution sensors installed by the MMDA noon. Ilang buwan lang giba na.

The reason: Air pollution in MM is so worse na yung levels detected by the sensors is waaaaay overboard the acceptable limit na nasisira sila kaagad.

This is disturbing indeed. The clean air act is a joke since corruption is rampant, the LTO does not do its job on this.
Jeepneys and buses are the main source of air pollution, particulates are high if you live near major thoroughfares.

Classic case of government's double standard. Hypocrisy at its finest. Yan po ang malungkot sa ating bansa.

    FWIW, from last March:

kaya lumalala pollution dahil sa trapik bakit trapik!? kulang kalsada tapos sobrang congested na metro manila. tapos walang zoning kaya kinakain ng mga commercial residential developer ang right of way na sana pwede gawan kalsada so ano gagawin ng gobyerno punta sila korte file ng expropriation malas mo pa kung yung kinatitirikan ng lupa na gagawin kalsada iskwater naka skwat mag file ka ng order sa korte to demolish tapos i relocate mo pa. kaya ganyan katagal proseso para lang makagawa ng kalsada.

definitely. too bad, especially since the pollution by PUVs are the easiest to regulate.

This is because diesel powered vehicles that get caught in Makati's anti-pollution teams in Buendia and Osmena Highway are given a license to continue polluting the air once they pay a fine.

Diesel vehicles who get caught in the Anti-Smoke Belching drive go to Makati City Hall to pay the fine and are given a sticker that's good for a few months. They are given a sticker whether or not they had their engines calibrated or emissions reduced.

This is being discussed in the Pitstop Forums:

We have an inutile government that doesn't implement the clean air law.
