    Firefox versus Opera

i'm not sure if there's a thread on this buried somewhere...

so, which is it? opera or firefox?

i've been using opera for quite some time, until i heard plenty of good feedback about firefox, so i had it installed also.

i found it really good. i use only the free opera version, so there's the ubiquitous ads, on the other hand, i've noticed that opera is faster than firefox.

then again i've also found some useful ways to speed up my firefox (changing some of the configurations).

of course, i've gotten used to opera, and i prefer the skins it has available for download.

right now i can't decide which browser to use.

    what do you think?

I still prefer Opera. Fast without tweaking and moving back to previous pages a breeze! With firefox, moving back is a drag. Well, at least it's true with our current setup. I don't know about others.

Go for Opera. It will make your internet browsing activities easier. I love the "save last session" feature... and so on and so forth!

Mouse gestures, the save username and password (Alt+Enter).. and many more! Opera is number 1!

I'm using Firefox right now, primarily because it works with Gmail and it renders more pages correctly. Though I admit that Opera is superior feature by feature. And I simply cannot stand the ads.

What ads? Oh! I simply ignore them! The webpages you're browsing are full of them anyway!

I use Opera, because it has all that I need in one package.

Firefox still has these 'extensions' stuff, which still requires me to download various confusing plugins just to meet my browsing demands. Sometimes those plugins have conflicts within Firefox and themselves, so it's quite hard to use, and also it would be a pain to re-install all those whenever I reformat my computer.

me too...

use a clean install of firefox and try to get all the plugins to match opera and you have a bloated and buggy browser.

firefox is just nice cos it's free software that's better than IE.

    my thoughts on why
    firefox is better:
    - open source software

    opera is better:
    - does not need much configurations on default install
    - fast
    - features + continuous innovations
    - not a hobbyist's project (you won't experience the official forum going down - at times because of lack of funding )
    - efficient coding (not much bloat.. ff weighs about 5 mb while opera, at 4, and it already has a mail suite, a chat client, and a lot else!)
    - low memory footprint (i've seen ff consume as much as 400mb)
    - there are not as much opera zealots trolling on forums (my g do i hate them)

It's nice to know Opera is winning on this thread for a change.

Opera 8 supports gmail but it's still in beta...

i like opera than firefox feature wise. pero i generally use firefox for day to day surfing.

may ads ba? di nga (seryoso ako) meron ba? wala naman akong nakikita? pop up ad ba sya?

opera pa rin ang the best.. try ko na rin gumamit ng firefox and did the tweaks pero mas mabilis pa rin ang connection sa opera.

mas ok din mag dload ng files using opera. pwede mo siya i continue kahit naputol
    na yung connection mo.

yup yung back buuton ng opera is mas astig.. di na magloload..

im using opera 8 beta... any keygen jan?

firefox. those opera features like "save last session" ay meron din sa firefox and more (maraming extensions ang firefox). at saka free talaga, walang ads, walang babayaran na ad-free like opera.

You can do that with Firefox, too.

Though, the "WAND" and the back & forward button do rock!!

  19. #19
i never did get to figure out what that "wand" feature in opera does, even though i've been using it for many months now.

to my shame, i just deleted the wand button from the taskbar!

what i like about opera is i find it faster than firefox, despite changing those configurations in fx, plus it's easier to get used to than fx, or maybe it's just because i discovered fx only very recently?

the things i don't like about opera:

the ads: tolerable but still a little irritating anyway

it can't run gmail, or maybe it can but you have to change some configurations and i just haven't figured out how yet

also, the huge space for the taskbars etc.: i know there are "skins" that save space but i don't like the design of these skins... so i had to get used to the relatively smaller space alloted for the websites.

sa fx naman, tabbed browsing isn't automatic, unlike in opera. of course it's only a couple of clicks (Ctrl T) but still... sa opera it's immediate.

and it's not that much of a space-saver if you use tabbed browsing, relative to opera. almost the same space as opera (mas maliit lang ng konti) i'm speaking of tabbed browsing using the "theme" i have now (whitehart)

you have to scour through several extensions! and you have to close the fx window every time you install/uninstall one.

there are fewer skins or "themes" and i couldn't download the one i liked best (the silver skin)

Opera actually weighs around 10MB w/o the Java, 17MB w/ Java. I don't know how FireFox will weighs if you install all those extensions to match Opera. Perhaps, pareho din.
