    Talking Chuck Palahniuk [Merged]

this author really kicks @ss... i love his pessismistic thoughts, all the negative energies, braintwisting, nervewrecking, adrenalin-rush stuff, my GOD he's really one of the best and most original contemporary American writers. i adored FIGHT CLUB. for some time it became a serious personal philosophy and religion. and now SURVIVOR. hands down to this guy. basahin nyo and wear your seatbelts for a hellride of satiric and brilliantly morbid novels.

can't wait to read his INVISIBLE MONSTERS, CHOKE, and his future writings.

    True. True. Chuck Rocks!

Most of his novels have a core theme usually the lead character has a displaced messiah-nic complex... often angsty... often languishing in their own bile hehe.

his writing just gets to you, there seems to be a sardonic punchline to every page most of his works feature strong male central figures though he has tried to create a female anti-heroine (which i think falls short , mas kuha niya yung male psyche talaga!)

anyway hope you guys out there would try reading his works
    you won't be disappointed!

INVISIBLE MONSTERS is my favorite among all his works. I just loved the twists and turns and the surprise ending. I read CHOKE a few months back when it came out and I'm not impressed at all. Still a cool writer, though, although I wish he'd try a different route the next time he writes something.

    Talking Chuck Palahniuk!!!

Anyone reading Chuck Palahniuk? He's the author of Fight Club and other great novels about f.cked up people. Some say he's a bad writer some say genius but, what do you think?

  5. #5
I haven't read any of his work, but I've seen Fight Club; he must be brilliant if he could think that up, i think. Tried reading Brett Easton Ellis? Glamorama is f-d up, too, just like American Psycho. The movie version of American Psycho is gret, by the way.

the characters, not the books, are f-d up--is what i meant, of course.. but you got that.

he's purty good....not to mention the underlying sense of humour in most everything he writes.

so far, I've read Choke and Diary. Nakakatuwa yung paulit-ulit niyang style saka yung pagbanggit niya ng mga medical terms to describe yung hitsura mo pag binugbog ka

I read somewhere na gagawin ding movie yung book nyang Survivor, sana maayos din and adaptation tulad ng Fight Club!

My friend loaned me his copy of "Invisible Monster" nagandahan ako. I like his style, minsan nga lang nakakapagod basahin.

CHUCK PALAHNIUK is awesome...read his short stories/essays too and he's really funny. "extreme behavior" is really funny and shocking; it's a must-read. another good short story is "the ghost who came to say he was sorry"...

I know this because Tyler knows this.

Hmm...I have Fight Club, Diary, Lullaby, Invisible Monsters and Choke. I haven't read the last two yet, but among the first three, I enjoyed Fight Club the most, followed by survivor.

I regretted buying Diary, though; it was immensely dragging at some points. When I went to Fully Booked the day I purchased it, five copies of Survivor and their last copy of Diary (the Vintage UK publishing, a standard I kept among all the C.P. books I already had) were sitting next to each other on the shelf, and I picked up Diary instead. I wish I listened to the reviews first before buying anything. Haha. I should've picked up Survivor.

I have all of Chuck Palahniuk's books, even the non-fiction collections. and I love everyone of them. I now find it hard to read any other author after getting used to Chuck's every-sentence-drives-the-plot writing style. I understand the comment about Diary being "dragging" as it's a departure from his other works primarily because it's a horror story. But still, I like it.

Could somebody please tell me how to pronounce his last name?

    ^^ i believe it's pronounced "po-la-nik." hehe
