There's a two year bond right?
A friend of mine told me that one of our friends (hehe layo) is currently training at Maersk. From what I know, she's at Europe (don't know where).
Based on what I saw, masyadong tahimik yung office. Para talagang walang tao. Hindi ka kaya antukin dun? Hehe. You'll be based at Makati right?
Hi. I'm not going there for work (initially). What they (parents) have planned for me is first I need to study Chinese at Beijing then look for any good oppurtunities there. I heard they pay really well to those who speak good English and Chinese language. My cousin's friend who's now working @ a multinational company at Beijing is earning $4,000/month. And he's just 24 years old!!!Originally Posted by ronfindabetajob

sino pa ang nagwo-work dito sa maersk-filipinas?
hmm, mukang sobrang busy ang mga maersk people ah, wala masyadong nagpaparamdam.
question lang...is your friend a management trainee (the one training in europe)?Originally Posted by d_haven

I used to work for Maersk as a MISE trainee.
a few things:
Getting in: Moderate to Hard
Pay: Could be better, it's adequate but if you're not a MISE trainee, don't get your hopes up
Locations: 51st Floor PBCom, Wynsum (??) in Emerald Avenue, port offices
Culture: Very Filipino meaning too much politics, back stabbing, employees always in the dark, bureaucratic and very centralised (from Denmark that is!!)
Perks: Medical and dental is poor. If you're a MISE trainee, there's a lot of travel in store for you. Training is also a plus.
Work: Too much for too little pay and training.
In conclusion, it's a good stepping stone (if you're a MISE trainee) and it looks good on your resume.
Just so you know, I quit from the program. I could take the long hours and all the s*** but it was the culture that knocked me out in the end, plus the fact that there was no sort of management initiatives to improve the workplace and they had a lax approach to employee relations, or at least improving it.
by the way, there's no bond. they do expatriate you to another country for two years but only after two years of training. so in those two years, you're technically under probation and you have what is called a notional contract - meaning, there is the notion of a contract. they can get rid of you whenever they please without recourse if you do not meet the standards set by the local management in terms of work performance or those set in denmark during training as far as your exam grades are concerned.
and, by the way, the training doesn't really count for anything more if you choose to leave the company as there is no certification involved. the exams are pretty hard though, and the days are long during training (7 am to 7 pm) and no free time on the weekends, so don't bother planning of traipsing along the streets of Copenhagen (or Kobehavn as the danes would put it).
you do get to build a great international network, great when you're a traveller and meet great people.

one more thing vandarkala, yung posts mo above, perception mo ba yan sa maersk org as a whole or sa MISE program nila? (esp the culture)
thanks.
that's my perception about maersk philippines as a whole.. i think it depends on which country your from. denmark obviously has the best perks, the singapore regional office is also ok, i think... but generally speaking, from what i gather from the international MISE network is that pay is low and culture is rather old-fashioned and ultra-conservative
the sad thing is that Maersk actually revels in it.. they keep on saying that it's a danish thing and that they're proud of it... but most everyone who works for maersk isn't danish.. what's the logic in that.. again, suffice it to say, the initiatives to improve the worker's experience with the company are lacking, direly.
maersk here i come! i pervently hope i'll have a nice time here!
hi sweet_ryan, any updates on maersk? are you enjoying your work there? how's the work culture? people? thanks!
people are nice and from what i have observed, medyo toxic ang trabaho sa maersk kasi people are always busy. next week pa lang actually start ng training ko...
the best part of working for maersk? the view from the 51st floor!
does anyone know how the MISE program work? do they hire continuously for the trainees and the program proper varies for each, or do they wait for a specified date where all their MTs will begin training?
