Though I think it's hard to have real online friends, it's not impossible. I actually have a lot of friends now whom I've met through the Internet. Some of them I consider close friends - we've been friends since 1997. To leave it online though is pretty hard - I believe it's hard to get to know someone really well by just reading text. It's still different if you get to see or even just hear the person.

..I believe it's possible..who's to say that friendship has to be tangible in the first place? But of course it will be so cool to finally hang out with an online friend someday diba?

i do believe in online friendships, sometimes the comfort of knowing you're each behind your monitors, tucked away in your own private haven can be reassuring, thus bringing us to disclose those things we often conceal and hide from people we do indeed call friends. Knowing someone doesn't always come to be thanks to visual and personal contact. After a few emails or hours chatting, you get past the "6footish, half-this, half-that" lies , and get to know what you're really like. You may indeed meet people pretending to be someone else, but the way someone writes and speaks when he/she knows it's just the two of them, secluded from public scrutiny, it's in some ways deep. If you are consistent enough in writing each other, you'll forget about the 'kahawig ko daw si Antonio Sabato Jr.' lines. Friendship is deeper than that, it comes when two people are close enough.
So, does anyone want to start an online friendship? Email me peeps!!

What are you missing out in the lack of physical, visual expression?

i do believe in online friendships, you just have to pick from all the crap..it's a lot like real life. you bond with the people you have the most things in common. Some of my closest friends i've met online and i don't regret meeting them...some we became closer because of chatting. I personally think that you don't call people friends until you spend time talking to them or hanging out with them in real life. I am just very lucky that those people i became close with online are great real life friends. Even on Pex, i've met this group of people i love and cherish and miss so dearly whenever i'm not home.

Sometimes, certain circumstances would make us lose touch with some of our friends. We graduate, move to other places, start a career, build a new life.

So we have to find other ways where to find friends whom we can still keep and cherish and one avenue for this is by going online.

Online friendships can be nurturing to both two or three people who find something that they find common with one another. It can be short-lived though, depending on the willingness of each person to know more of the other person. Friendships like this should also be built on the foundation of honesty and trust.

Of course, smilies and other icons can’t match the real “tap in the shoulder” or “hugs” and “laughter” but it makes you feel that the other person is listening to you and even willing to fight for you though sans the physical presence.

From online, you can exchange numbers, get to talk and giggle with each other on the phone, email each other's pictures, and there might also come to a time where you can finally meet this wonderful people who have managed to survive your incessant rantings about your one-sided stories for quite some time and still continue to accept you for what you are.

I’m glad I have forged friendships with these people that I haven’t met before IRL because of PEX. They make me discover more about myself and learn from each other's experiences.

My current group of friends... I met them all online. We don't see each other everyday but we exchange group emails everyday! We only get to meet twice or thrice a year but that's enough to make us "close", I think.

It is hard to find people who can be true in the internet. Everyone tries to make up this person that they never were, or will ever be.

I have found some people who I can call friends, and most of them remained on the net and never had I met them. But they live up to the word friend and for that I am thankful.

It does not necessarily need to be brought into the real world, what is important is that the two people can be honest enough to each other, then they can have a friendship worth keeping.

Off-topic: Excuse me pero wag nyo naman po lahatin. "Everyone" doesn't include me po.

Back to the topic: I can say I got 1 good friend who I met thru the net. I don't just call anyone my friend but this guy has become my friend. We did see each other once when I was back home...
