    Remember Mr. NBA Henry Liao?

Before the naging uso ang mga NBA sites sa internet, si Henry Liao ang madalas basahin ng mga NBA fanatics dito sa Pinas for NBA basketball news. Yung column niya sa Sports Flash dati ay punong puno ng bball news at statistics.

I get my NBA fix sa kanya dati. Saan na kaya siya ngayon? Nagsusulat pa ba siya ng column?

Lightbulb Re: Remember Mr. NBA Henry Liao?

I have had the chance to work with Henry Liao several times before.

These days, he is the main man behind Tower Sports NBA magazines plus he can be heard over DZSR Sports Radio 918KhZ on the AM band with his show "NBA Out Takes" every Friday from 8:00 to 9:00AM.

before the internet, there was henry liao.

i used to buy the weekly sports flash just for his 2 page column on the NBA. lahat ng NBA news nandodoon, pati transactions kahit na insignificant.the best part was that he printed the weekly nba statistics (scoring, rebounding, assists, FG%, FT%, steals, blocks)

so invaluable since wala pang internet dati.

    anybody remember this guy?

Yeah, was a subscriber of Weekly Sportsflash as well. I think it's Scoreboard before there was Sportsflash. Those were the days na talagang aabangan mo everything in writing and magagaling yung writers. I remember reading a few from James Ty III as well.

Ngayon kasi, mga nagcopy-paste na nga lang from an internet article di pa mai-layout na maayos.

THE BEST NBA correspondent,.. always bought Weekly Sprots Flash, Philippine Daily Inquirer (especially every Tuesday and Friday because of his NBA columns) and Scoreboard just to read his NBA news, notes and statistics. updated sya palagi and what I love in his column is that he printed every NBA team roster at the start of the season and after the all-star break.

when i was in grade 6, our teacher asked us one by one who we wanted to be like when we grow up. my answer was henry liao. of course my teachers and classmates scratched their heads, they had no idea who he was.

i still have many of his clippings here. unfortunately i was not able to save the letter that mr. liao sent back to me 20 years ago. as a kid i wrote him for advise where to get nba material aside from basketball digest and TSN, he wrote back that he usually gets most of his info from street & smith's and some mags i dont remember anymore. he also sent me a locally-produced nba magazine, the first of its kind in the Philippines.

my favorite henry liao pieces are definitely the annual draft series that he runs from during june-july. he had this penchant of using the term "norms" for averages, "grabs" for rebounds, "rejects" for blocks and "scores" for points. in most of his columns, he also had transaction reports at the end of his write-ups.

Henry Liao and Quinito Henson were great sources of info for anything about the NBA before the age of cyberspace.

Also he had NBA Articles with SportsLife Mag. Weekly NBA Fix. Also there was Atty. Ed Tolentino with his NBA articles and boxing news.
