    1. when and where did labour hit you?
It was Tuesday ng madaling araw, 12:40am, my water broke but I wasn't in labor pa. The day before puyat pa kami because my dog had a seizure at around the same time, early Monday morning naman.

    2. how did you know it was really labour?
I got to the midwifery at around 1:30 because I had to pack some more last minute stuff. I wasn't into active labor yet. I was 0% effaced and not dilated yet. We started to try to induce using herbs, homeopathics and breastpump.

    3. when and how did you go to the hospital?
My husband drove us to the midwifery. Around 24 hours after we arrive (early Wednesday morning), I was about 90% effaced na but only 1cm dilated and my contractions weren't strong enough to get me into active labor so the midwife advised for a hospital transfer. Fortunately, the hospital was just across from the midwifery.

    4. other specifics about birth you would like to share,
like did you have anesthesia, how long was labour, anything funny happened during the mad rush, etc

When we got to the hospital (around 1:30am), they hooked me up on Pitocin na agad (pang-induce) and about 30 minutes into it, the contractions got waaayyyy stronger. I was really doubling over in pain. Then the nurses kept upping the dose every 15 minutes or so. Sobrang parang wala na ako sa sarili ko noon. I was pretty much determined to have a natural birth, meaning walang pain medications, so I didn't have any of it. Buti I had a very supportive husband plus my midwife and doula were with me sa hospital pa.
At around 7:10am, the doctor checked me and I was ready to push na. My midwife was the one who basically assisted me through it. I pushed for 25 minutes and out came an 8lb 9oz baby boy. I didn't have an episiotomy. All I had was one tear less than an inch and it took only one stitch.

I left the hospital 12 hours after because I was so uncomfortable and still anxious about my dog who had been at the doggie hospital for 3 days na. He died exactly a week after I gave birth.

Funny thing was when my baby started crowning, my midwife asked me if I wanted to touch his head and I was like.... NO!!! Haha... siguro kala nila sobrang wala akong paki. But I get squeamish easily (I didn't even watch birthing videos kasi natatakot ako) and I was afraid that if I touched my baby's head, I'll wig out and matakot ako to push.

I was due Sept 25th but I hadn't gone into labor. My doctor said they'd have to induce if I still didn't get it in a couple of days. Two days after, I was in the shower and my water broke. I saw the doctor that day and she told me to go to the hospital. So I went home, had lunch, and got a call from the hospital saying they had an opening in labor and delivery. My husband couldn't get away from work right away so I drove myself to the hospital with my mom.

The nurse gave me Pitocin and went into labor after about 4 hours. When my contractions were coming on every minute, I asked for epidural. That felt so good! Then I fell asleep while my husband slept on the cot. The nurse kept checking on my cervix and after 8 hours it hadn't progressed from 8 cms. She called my doctor and they decided to do a c-section.

I was brought to the surgery room at 6 in the morning. The whole procedure went smoothly although I was shaking so bad from the epidural. I got a light fever and the shaking lasted for about 3 hours. The baby and I stayed at the hospital for 4 nights.

I was due on May 15 but had a difficult pregnancy (low amniotic fluid, threatened abortion that had me bed bound for 2 months ... not fun at all!) so when I had my check up on the morning of April 24 I jokingly asked my doctor if pregnancy could already be induced. No need according to her because I was 4 cm dilated by then. You could imagine my husband's face because his carefully planned birth schedule with all the logistics and people involved was gone.

I was instructed to go back to the hospital by 4 pm with all my stuff. My husband, who was waiting for his camcorder to be returned the next week insisted that we had to buy a new one kaya we went to Megamall and bought one, had a good meal at Mann Hann, and then went home to pack my stuff. I went to the hospital at around 8 pm and I was only 6 cm dilated.
Painful ng konti pero bearable. I was just so thrilled to walk into the hospital and tell everyone that asked that I was due to give birth that night.

My husband and I took Lamaze lessons so I was fully prepared to go through the experience naturally. The contractions were painful but the breathing exercises helped a lot so I was able to handle them. I brought magazines and a book and paminsan minsan Id watch tv. It was just irritating that my husband would tape every single moment of the contractions. I drew the line when the IE's had to be done (they were NOT fun at all!) and when I was still stuck at 7 cm for over 2 hours they had to break my water bag (i HATED the experience!). Still, no progress so I was given something to hasten the labor. Man, the contractions became more frequent but no further dilation and effacement. So finally at around 6 am, my doctor had to say that my baby could not go beyond my pelvis bone kaya a C-section had to be done so no choice but to take an epidural. I felt so bad kasi I wanted to give birth naturally and they had to convince me pa that there was no other way.

I felt so weird during the C-section kasi while prepping you, they'd tie you down so parang open na open ka. Plus I was freaking out kasi I was already feeling so sleepy and I had this insane thought that they might start cutting me up without me having the full effect of the epidural. It was quick though kasi a little later my baby girl was beside me na.

Waking up after the C-section I felt so tired and ITCHY!!!! As in all over I had this urge to scratch which the nurses said was normal because the anaesthesia was evaporating thru the skin. It didn't help that the girl beside me was screaming of pain kasi nagwear off na daw yung anaesthesia na. Tuloy, I was so worried that I'd be like her.

i was due july 29 2005 but gave birth 2 weeks earlier. (july 13, 2005)

i was being forced by my boss to file my maternity leave na since ayaw daw niya siya ang maghatid sa akin sa hospital, that was july 12. hehe so being the masunurin one, nag file na ako.

come dinner time. normal routine pa rin, nood tv, kwentuhan with my hubby etc.. didn't expect na i was going to give birth the next day (who would really?) but around early morning, i was waking up every hour or two going to the loo to pee.

around 1030 am, was having frequent braxton hicks contractions and a little pain on my back. called my mom and asked if i was in labor, since that was my first pregnancy. she asked me to check for the bloody show and any discharge. after my nth time to pee that day, i had a bloody show. called up my mom and told her about it. i was very calm couldn't imagine others getting all fussy about it. anyway, waited for my mom to come home from work before heading to the hospital. never will i go to the hospital without my mom.

was admitted around 1130 am. the usual routine, check for contractions, IEs, other details etc. etc.

by 1230 or so the contractions were minutes apart already. but it was still tolerable. after another IE exam, i was ready to push. was wheeled into the delivery room.

at 230 pm my baby boy was born! yey! i'm proud to say that i didn't ask for any anesthesia. i was just given a local one when they did an episiotomy on me to ease the delivery of my baby.

and i was up and walking the next day like nothing happened. although i looked like a penguin when i walked since i was wearing adult diapers. haha

i was due june 6, 2006 but gave birth june 2, 2006. labor hit me around 11pm ng june 1 pero hindi ko alam na labor na yun kasi i just felt like going to the cr lang. as in ilang beses akong pumupuntang cr ng wala naman. hindi na ako makatulog ng maayos the whole night just thinking na baka sumama lang ang tiyan ko sa kinain ko or whatever. i even did not bother my husband para gisingin or sabihin na medyo masama ang pakiramdam ko dahil tolerable naman ang nararamdaman ko. mga around 5am nung hindi na medyo comfortable ang feeling ko at may konti na akong discharge, i texted my ob at tinanong ko kung ano ba ang nararamdaman ko, then she told me im having labor na. doon ko pa lang ginising ang husband ko, funny is we asked my ob pa kung anong gagawin namin, kung dadalhin na ba namin yung gamit namin sa kanya hehe.

we went to her clinic around 8am and she checked na 5cm na ako. pinapunta na nya ako sa hospital na malapit lang naman doon. anyway, we were advised na baka mag-50/50 chance of normal delivery ako since maliit daw yung sipit-sipitan ko. around 11am, 5cm pa din ako and we decided na to push with the operation since ganun din naman ang ending kung ita-try naming mag-normal delivery. i had a smooth operation, gising ako the whole time and i gave birth 11:36am with a beautiful baby girl.

    1. when and where did labour hit you?

my due date was august 18, but i gave birth july 29, 2006. (yup! 3 weeks earlier!)
nung morning, i went to my OB for my weekly scheduled check-up. during the NST, while strapped to the monitor, napansin ni OB na i was having contractions every 3 minutes. ako naman di ko nafi-feel. so she performed IE. and we found out that i was already 4 cm dilated! syempre shocked ako. nag-OT pa ko the night before, went to the mall at nag-shopping-shopping eh nagda-dilate na pala ako!

    2. how did you know it was really labour?

i didn't have a clue na nagle-labor na ko. kung di ko pa schedule to visit my OB, baka nanganak na ko sa mall!! HAHAHA! honestly, i didn't feel any pain when i have contractions. feeling ko braxton-hicks lang.

    3. when and how did you go to the hospital?

after my routine check-up with my OB (and found out na i'm in labor na), that afternoon pina-admit na ako sa hospital. we were admitted 3:30 PM pero i gave birth 11:50 PM (10 minutes na lang , di pa pinaabot ng next day...hehe)

    4. other specifics about birth you would like to share

after being admitted, 4 hours passed and i wasn't improving. 4 cm pa rin ako. so my OB said na i-rupture na nya water bag ko to speed up the process. after na-rupture, ayan pede na kong mag-push. however, no matter how hard i push my baby isn't coming out. yun pala, cord-coil si baby! buti na lang magaling ang OB ko, nailabas pa rin nya si baby na hindi ako nisi-CS. but my goodness, ang haba ng tahi ko. normally 2-degree lang ang cut for episiotomy pero ako, 4-degree!! one hour akong tinatahi ng OB ko after mailabas ko si baby.

but it's all worth it. i mean, i hear my son cry nung paglabas nya, kahit 6-degree pa (meron ba nito?) ang hiwa sa akin, oks lang.

that was 2 months ako. i'm fully healed now. after a month nga i was driving na. i'm blessed that i am able to heal fast.

    Lightbulb Labor and Delivery

Im a 1st time mom so i dont really know about labor and other stuff about giving birth... SO im just curious... Is it really painful?? What are the signs of mommy in labor na.... Im really scared if i get tummy ache or something feeling ko labor na... hehehe.... Kayo gano kayo katagal nag labor??

  9. #49
I gave birth twice. I have two kids already. but i can understand how you feel. I'd been in your position when i was pregnant w/ my son. And i can honestly tell you this ......... The pain is too much!!!! I'm not trying to scare you; I just want you to be prepare. but if you think you can't handle it; then take Ipedoral! It's drugs that can help you to go through labor. The labor might take a little bit longer but it's worth it trust me!!!!! YOU WON'T FEEL ANY PAIN!!!! You don't even feel your having contraction!
I'm just not sure if it's available in phil...

i gave birth to our daughter 2 yrs ago. since it was my first pregnancy, i was anxious also, didn't know what to expect...

but just what parkss1 said (and what other moms would attest to), giving birth is really painful!!!! maiisip mo na sana *** mga lalaki nalang ang dapat manganak, o kaya maiisip mo na ayaw mo na ulit magka-anak, etc... hehehe

anyway, some signs: magkakaron ng discharge, thick na mucous, then contractions will be more painful.. kapag uupo ka or hihiga, hindi ka mapakali, masakit... you'll prefer walking and pacing till the pain subsides..

i was in labor for 4 very painful hours. buti saglit lang. i think yung iba mas matagal pa dyan mag-labor...
kelan ka ba manganganak? i suggest week/s before ng due date mo, exercise. try walking. i was walking every afternoon for 30mins-1hr and it really helped.

    im LOST
i just gave birth 4 months ago and til now.. fresh parin sa isip ko yung pain na naramdaman ko.. =)

im also a first time mom.. lahat na siguro ng mommies natanungan ko kung gano kasakit manganak and halos iisa lang naman sagot nila.. sobrang sakit lahat daw ng santo tatawagin mo

at was a painful experience and funny at the same time.. i gave birth in a medical clinic so basically, maliit lang talaga yung place, isang floor lang siya.. a 3-bed ward, 2 semi private room and a private room na magkakadikit lang.. my mom would make chika to the other patients' bantay/guests. theyre all at the lobby where i was walking back and forth to help my cervix further dilate.

most of the time kasi, i was asked to go to the delivery room for me to try to give birth na and everytime i come out from the room (failing to do the correct way to push) they'd all say "kaya mo yan!" ofcourse i was not in the mood to answer back dahil nga sobrang sakit na .. in short, they all celebrated nung nailabas ko na yung baby ko.. lahat sila sumilip sa nursery to see my baby

(hope this will give you an idea)
the night before i gave birth(i was induced so naka sked kung kelan ako manganganak), hindi na ko nakatulog because of the contraction. so "THAT" day, was really exhausting..pagod, puyat, gutom, frustration, labor pain, excitement, ..11:25pm ako nanganak so that time, antok na antok na talaga ko and gusto ko na matulog. like what girlnxtdoor said, iisipin mo na bakit ikaw lang yung nakakaramdam ng pain (to think na 2 naman kayo na gumawa nun hehe).

kelan ka nga ba manganganak? kung matagal pa. wag mo muna isipin and i-enjoy mo muna pregnancy mo ok

im not sure if epidural and ipedoral (like what parkss1 has mentioned) is the same. but it is available in most hospitals here. i wasnt sure if it was available at the clinic where i gave birth, but if it was, for sure i wont take it.. induced kasi ako so madami dami nang gamot yung nilagay/naintake ng katawan ko and it might harm the baby in any way.

anyways godbless.. kung kaya ng ibang moms, for sure kaya mo din yan.. prayers will really help in giving you a safe delivery and a healthy baby too!

hi, ambersmom616! i'm guessing june 16 ang due date mo so next month na yun. i'm a first time mom too and i gave birth almost 8 months ago. like you, i tried to ask as many mommies as i can about what labor feels like. my husband and i attended childbirth, babycare and breastfeeding classes and i read a lot of childbirth books but i still wanted to talk with women that have gone through labor. the consensus seemed to be pain na di maipaliwanag.

like BiTteR_GoDdEsS, induced labor ako kasi "dimple" pa lang daw ang dilation ko on my due date. we scheduled the induction 2 days after the due date. check in kami sa hospital 12 midnight then 3 am, i was given pitocin (drug for inducing labor). nag-start ang pains around 7 am, parang dysmenorrhea. upon being admitted, i was asked if i want any pain relief. i said no to both narcotics and epidural. pero by 9 am, 2 cm dilated pa lang ako at feeling ko 5x na ang sakit kaya i gave in to epidural. by 4 pm, 9.5 cm dilated na ako kaya lang by 7 pm, di na nag-progress ang dilation. i also developed a fever at fluctuating na ang bp ko and the baby's heartbeat. my ob-gyn ordered emergency CS kasi din she suspected that the baby is big (he was 9 lbs 2 oz at birth). that was the only time during the whole process that i cried because i so wanted normal delivery. it's a good thing that i have my husband that held my hand and assured me that everything would be ok. a little past 8 pm, i heard my baby cry na.

my husband told me, when i asked for epidural yun daw contraction peaks dun sa monitor within the paper print out pa. towards the afternoon daw, yung peaks lampas na dun sa paper. i'm not sure if the peaks correspond to how painful the contractions were pero if they do, hindi ko naramdaman ang worst because of the epidural.

payo nga pala ng ob-gyn ko around the time of my due date at wala pang dilation and contraction, walk and have sex.

  13. #53
This was happened to me the first sign you feel like you need to go poop na parang hindi naman and then spotting. After that you'll feel a contraction mga 20-25 minutes apart. As the hours go by your contraction will get stronger. If your contractions is 2-3 mins apart you're in active labor mga 3 cm dilated ka na. D ka na makalakad sa sakit pag nag contract ang sakit simula sa likod papunta sa harap ng tiyan.
You need to time each contractions para alam mo when to go to the doctor.

But when your water breaks or you feel a trickle punta ka agad sa hospital, you and your baby are susceptible to get infection.

Just to add on to what other people have mentioned, a contraction doesn't just feel like a tummy ache.
It's also coupled with paninigas ng tyan. Like what's been mentioned, you have to time your contractions. If it's regular na (like every 15minutes), you have to inform your doctor and she will advise you on whether you need to go to the hospital na.
If your water breaks din, you have to inform your doctor ASAP as well.

My experience was that my water broke but did not go into active labor (as in no regular and productive contractions). 26hours after my water broke, I was induced (meaning, you'll be administered a drug -pitocin- that will start contractions). Yes, it's very painful.

You'll have options for painkillers (epidural, etc) but foregoing painkillers is also do-able. In my case, I had 6 hours of hard labor before I was ready to push. Thankfully, I was able to undergo the whole process without the painkillers.

During labor ko sa 1st baby ko is super cry talaga ako to the point na pagmasakit every 5mins. sinusuntok ko *** husband ko para mailabas ko *** sakit at di ko maramdaman na masakit. well, next week na *** due date ko hopefully sa bday ng 1st baby ko lumabas *** 2nd baby ko (May 29). May 30 kc ang due ko.

Like girlnxtdoor said, maiisip mo na ayaw mo na ulit manganak dahil ayaw mo na ulit maranasan *** sakit ng labor. as of now un na talaga ang balak ko. ayoko na ulit mabuntis after this kahit bata pa ako (21 y.o). Nag-labor ako for almost 12hours before lumabas *** 1st baby ko. And sa BAIT ng mama ko nilayo niya ang Husband ko during peak ng sakit ng tiyan ko dahil mas mararamdaman ko daw ang sakit pagnakikita ko asawa ko in short baka daw mag-inarte ako. Hahahaha!!!

Kaya Amber better na maiprepare mo *** sarili mo by walking mga 1mile a day or have sex with hubby sa last week ng due mo. makakatulong un para mag-dilate ka.... iwas caesarian na din...

i guessed it from your user name. i'm thinking you'll name your baby amber then 616 is your due date.

every pregnancy is unique kaya you'll never know what to expect talaga. another thing that worked for me was mahilig magpatawa ang husband ko. for some, it could be irritating but it was a lot of help to me. like nung natatagalan sa pag-dilate ng cervix at pagbaba ng baby, he said "what if i put a flash light down there and tell the baby come into the light?" my ob-gyn was also very nice. when she saw me crying in the OR before they cut me up, she said to me "you'll be a mother soon".

Sa first baby ko which was born October 13, 2004, I had an epidural delivery. So after more than 2 hours of pushing lumabas din yng baby boy ko 7 pounds sya....
Sa second baby ko which was born August 24, 2007 normal delivery lang talaga walang epidural kase feeling ko useless lang magpaepidural lalo na kung 2nd delivery ko na. The day before I give birth, I had my regular prenatal check up and my ob did an IE and she found out na 4cm na pala ko so inadvise nya ako nag maglakad sa MOA and come back to her sa hapon para macheck kung may pagbabago. Dumating kame don midnight na and when they checked me I'm still at 5 cm so inadvise muna ng mga nurse na matulog muna ako don sa room. At around 5am ginising ako ng nurse tapos iniinduce na nila ako kase 5cm pa rin. Tapos ayun na naramdaman ko na yung pain parang may dysmenorhea. At 8:50am I gave birth to a baby girl 6.8 pounds...
Right now, I'm 5 months pregnant and I'm praying that like my first 2 pregnancies, hope everything will be ok lalo na pag time na ideliver yung baby sana normal lang ang lahat.
