Please suggest a Call Center Academy

I am interested in working in a call center, but my problem is I am not really good in speaking English.

I heard that there are places called call center academies where they will teach you how to communicate well in English as well as how to relate with clients, and other call centr jobs.

So what are the good call center academies around Metro Manila. How much is the tuition fee? And how good are their facilities and quality of teaching? I desperately need to be good in speaking English because English is the medium use in the corporate world.

Thanks

I'm not really sure about those academies. What you could do is study ESL (English as a Second Language), or take up a course in SpeechPower and/or take up short courses in customer service.

There's a call center academy along Shaw Boulevard near Universal Robina/C-5. I think it would be safer (and likely cheaper) to go with Una_dagmar's recommendation of going with conventional speech courses.

Look for it under schools in the PLDT Yellow Pages.

If I were you, i wouldn't waste my money on call center academy. Sorry but most if not all of their "So-called" graduates speak with a very forced accent!

If you don't speak english well..accent wise, you can improve that by watching English movies and try speaking in English ALL the time. Practice makes perfect.

However, if you need help on your grammar and sentence construction...I doubt if call center academy can help you with that. Maybe you should consider going back to school and reading lots of books.

If all else fails, well, not all call centers are into international clients. Why not try a local call center...it is still a call center...technically speaking.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip guys...

anyway, I am cancelling my plan to apply on call centers. Maybe sometime in the future but not now. I just found few job vacancies where I like the work place, and I suit the qualifications. I hope I will get any of those jobs.

honga... try mo din manuod ng nickelodeon channel... seriously you can get tips here on how to speak the english language, without the obscenities... kasi pambata. ako once in a while i try to watch. walang complicated words, straight english.

pwede ka din sa speechpower, or better, john robert powers... un nga lang medyo mahal. don't waste time and money with a call center college or school, ako hindi naman nag-ganyan pero nasa call center ako. another tip pre... hanap ka ng readme please na software... all you have to do is type the word and the software will read it for you.

pero diskarte mo na. kung gusto mo namang malaman ang environment ng call center, try to apply with a local account first, para lang ma-feel mo first hand. maganda kasi dito, maganda ang bayaran, and walang homework, meaning pagtapos ng shift, wala kang uuwing trabaho... trabahong tamad baga... no offense to my colleagues, pero if you're an agent, malamang nga ganun ang scenario... love peace and menudo grease!!!

I really wouldn't advise any Call Center academies in the Philippines... I personally don't think they're effective - I'm sorry but it's just a waste of time and money. I've encountered a lot of people who have proudly made it through the trainings these academies provide; but still, there were a lot of issues that the academy failed to address -- the applicant turned out to have problems with the ff:
1.) pronunciation
2.) grammar
3.) accent

well actually, some people somehow managed to have the American accent but still, with the pronunciation and grammar issues, any American would immediately know that he or she is NOT speaking to one of their own; like I encountered this person who can't even reconcile the simplest subject-verb agreement! Or even pronounce simple words such as eagle.... with /egol/

You've been bombarded by lessons in elementary, high school and even during college... take note that these things are developed practically during the first 20 years of your life and these things cannot be learned in just 2 weeks or so.

I am not saying that it's hopeless for someone to improve his or her communication skills, but all I am saying is that IT WILL TAKE MORE TIME than what these academies are purported to do in a short span of time.

So what I can suggest is more of self-help - read more books and browse on the basics. It's as simple as that. melrosegirl's advice is actually good; you might want to consider it instead.

waste!

i agree...waste of time and money and it won't do you much good. crash courses wont make you make the cut...sorry....

best advice was found above: watch american movies and TV series, read aloud, ask someone to correct you regarding your grammar, pronunciation, subject-verb agreement, tenses, lahat!

Speech Power is a good school but again that really depends on how long will you be taking the course.

Does your problem concern basic sentence construction or diction?

It seems to me that you are doing well when it comes to sentence construction. As for diction, I really can't tell.

You would be wasting your money on a call center academy.

You just really have to practice speaking in English all the time even when you're ordering food.

I'm a trainer for a call center and i do train on soft skills as well as process. Most of the people we hire really doesn't sound american but in time they will because they get to practice it everyday.

Well said.

When at one time I got tired of working in my company, and I felt it's starting to get dangerous, kasi I drive home and medyo nahihilo nako, I applied as a trainer in an academy, there were 4 of us applicants, well experienced in call centers and in my opinion were all good naman and worthy of the positions.

Before we were interviewed, we got the chance to observe the classes, and I don't know, but for me the training wasn't really good and even the trainers themselves seem not competent.

When we were interviewed, we were asked of how we would develop a lesson plan for our classes. We demonstrated in the class and provided techniques to the different styles of learning english, call center style. They also asked about the screening and what are the type of applicants hired, at that point, I was starting to get suspicious.

And I was right. At the end of the day, we were all rejected, it was just a f*uc*ing scheme all along just to get style and ideas. There were no more ads after that week. So we've been had.

Anyway point is, just goes to show that some, ok SOME, of these academies aren't geared up for the job, so choose wisely.
