If you think the US will change anytime soon, think again. Remember the Golden Rule: He who holds the GOLD sets the RULES. If the US ever gets pissed at you and decided to drop a 10,000-lb bomb in your backyard, it will definitely ruin your day!

The difference is that more than one country now "holds the gold," which should make the issue much more complicated.

Yeah death to US imperialism, but trough out time the US gave the Philippines billions and billions of aid. For gods sake we would not have even won our independence without US help. Yet pati US gusto natin sisihin kung bakit tayo naghihirap.

Kung tinularan din tayo ng mga hapon matapos sila bagsakan ng nuclear bomb, baka singhirap na din nila tayo

From what I remember, the U.S. gave around $300 million in overpriced, surplus equipment a year to PH for the two U.S. bases and smaller installations. They insisted that it was aid because "rent" would have caused problems for them (i.e., PH could demand for more). Meanwhile, Singapore was paid around $400 million a year in hard currency for renting some of its port facilities for repairs, and both Israel and Egypt (together with Iraq) were receiving far larger amounts for much less.

PH independence was not won because of U.S. help; rather, it was lost because of the opposite. PH had no choice but to accept U.S. rule, and was finally allowed independence after WW2. Even that event is questionable, as the U.S. did not strengthen its base of operations in PH during the early part of the war, thinking that Japanese forces would be weak. That proved fatal for hundreds of thousands of Filipinos.

Finally, you brought up the claim that U.S. war crimes are discussed as an excuse to explain hardships in PH. My understanding is that the examples given here are not directly connected to PH.

The Dodds report might shed light on that, if not books like Johnson's Blowback.
