hi smilewarrior! my hat's off to you for for giving wonderful, credible expert advice... and for having the patience in tackling all the questions hehe...

may i add another request: i'm looking for competent orthodontists in the mandaluyong area who don't charge too much (kinda tight budget din e) since i'm also interested in having braces put in. appreciate if you could pm me if you have suggestions/recommendations...

    thanks a bunch!!!

Guys, i'm planning to have braces for my lower teeth. I had my upper braced when I was a highschool senior and it turned out okay. I'm now 25 and now my lower teeth are starting to like each other too much (medyo nagdidikit-dikit sila). I already had my two lower wisdom teeth removed at the same time even before it reached the surface ( I remember taking painkillers during that time). My question is how much is a reasonable fee for braces? Yung hindi taga..

I'll send you a private message. If you're budget is tight, I'd suggest you have yourself treated at UP Orthodontics

Taga? You're honestly better off with braces on both upper and lower teeth.

At a private clinic, you'll most likely spend close to P80,000.

If you're on a tight budget, I'd suggest you have yourself treated at UP Orthodontics ( which is government subsidized , you only pay a fraction of the actual fee / 1/4 of P80,000). They'll accept patients again by 2009.

dapat ba talaga up and down para maganda ang outcome ng treatment? what if I had braces on my upper teeth before and its alright na?

  6. #1246
well i plan to have my jaw bite corrected. hope orthodontics will be able to help me correct my jaw problem. i am already 36. i am just worried that it is already too late for me to do that. masakit ba un braces for jaw bite correction.

at isa pa, 2 or 3 teeth yata sa bagang ko sa lower left jaw ko ang nabunot na. so pde pa ba me malagyan ng braces.

... which means you can be treated during the daytime, if you're okay with that.

    Yes. It's usually full strap-up ( upper and lower teeth ) .

Braces can correct the alignment of the teeth, they cannot correct the placement of your jaw/s . As I've mentioned, you need to be examined. Mahirap malaman kung papaano gagawin kung hindi nakikita ang problema.

    Good luck.

hi smilewarrior, when i smile.. my teeth doesnt show, most ng mga tao is when they smile yung teeth nila nakikita, nakikita *** ang ngipin ko when i laugh, pero when i smile d lumalabas ngipin ko T_T and when i smile it looks weird kasi imagine smiling pero 20% of ur teeth lang ang lumalabas halos hindi narin makita, it looks weird and freaky and not very attractive.. i love smiling pa naman, so when i smile for a picture i simply shut my mouth and smile =( ive heard of something called Orthognathic Surgery will this help? and how much kaya ang gastos ** all in all, and btw can you recommend a doctor? hehehe thanks smilewarrior i hope you read this

^ Good morning. There's not a lot I can deduce from your picture, arcanblade. You need to be examined physically. If you're on a tight budget, I would suggest you visit UP Orthodontics at Padre Faura, they'll accept patients again by 2009. I can pm you their landline number. UP Ortho is a government-subsidized orthodontic school.

If you'd like to be referred to a private clinic, please send me a private message and I'll refer you to one ( at a private clinic, you may be charged for the consultation ). Please indicate where in the Philippines you'd like to be treated.

As you've noted, the only sure way to tell what needs to be done in order to correct your teeth is to have Intra-oral / Extra-oral pictures, Cephalometric and Panoramic x-rays, and a Model Cast taken... then analyzed. If you'd like to be seen first before having all these taken, I guess it's okay. If you're serious about braces though you'll eventually need to have them taken.

    Hi smilewarrior,

I'm 28 years old and i'm wondering if braces will still work for me.

My problem is sobrang hiwa hiwalay yung lower teeth ko.. and may part pa na tlgang ang laki ng gap ng ngipin kaya conscious ako pag nag sasalita.

i'm thinking of braces and then, maybe, bridge (?) para ma fill up yung masyadong malalaking gap? i dunno if this is a good idea though..

    please please please advise.. thanks!

  13. #1253
^ Yes, you can still have braces arlene. Yes, most likely all the spaces that can be closed with braces will be closed, and those that can't will have to be closed with a substitute ( such as a bridge ).

My oldest patient was around 51 or 52 years old.

    @smilewarrior

maaayos kaya ng braces yung lock jaw ko? or meron bang ibang way para masuportahan yung jaw ko na para pag humikab eh hindi nawawala sa porma?

Do you have any missing teeth Near ? Have you ever been hit on the head before ? ( a kick to the head? a punch to the head? motorcycle accident without a helmet? ). Are you fond of chewing gum? Are you fond of chewing repeatedly, for long hours ?

You'll have to somehow lessen / minimize your mouth opening when you yawn.

Since I cannot see you, there is no objective means for me to assess you.

parang inborn na. no accidents or head injury has happend to me.

  17. #1257
^ The grinding has to be controlled. Please visit your dentist and have yourself examined.

good day =) i have a few concerns here : i had a root canal done and braces almost a year ago.. after 1root canal session( i have no idea what they do and what it's called) and 1adjustment for the braces i had to leave for europe, (a family member got ill and had to be taken care of). i didnt have time to inform my dentist since i had alot of stuff to fix and immediately flew after a couple of days. i didnt really get a chance to consult any other dentist in europe since it was very difficult to get an appointment, and i was too busy anyway.

i didnt really have problems with the braces except that i had a piece of metal fall off. no pain whatsoever and everything is still pretty much intact. with the rootcanal i didnt have any problems either, no pain no nothing. (oh a slight discoloration on that tooth, not very noticeable but its darker/yellowish compared to the other teeth)

..so im back in the country. but found out my dentist moved already and lost her contacts. im worried now, will everything be fine if i see a new dentist or am i gunna have to go through tests again, x-ray and all that. and also, im thinking about getting this metal braces removed and get a porcelain, is that possible? how much will it cost? i dont have any major issues with my teeth (at least i think) since all that has to be done is align them and get rid of the spaces in between the teeth.

any help will be deeply appreciated. =)
thank you so much in advance.
