[MERGED] How do you treat mouth sores ( SINGAW ) ?

There have been several suggestions on how to cure singaw like tawas and garling with salted water, but these do not seem to cure singaw. What do you recommend?

Yung betadine na for oral purposes daw...

I can tell you how NOT to cure it. I know someone who rubbed salt on her singaw because she was told it would heal faster... but the next day it got even bigger!

Ira, batang uliran: You mean there's no way to make it go away? You have to wait for it to go away? It would be nice to know that you can "shorten its life" somehow.

Singaw is just an infection of the oral mucosa caused by bacteria. It's usually self-limiting, so you don't really have to do anything about it. Pyralvex is a medication which has both antibiotic and analgesic properties--you wipe it on the singaw--but if you can tolerate the pain naman, then you don't really need it. Keep your oral cavity clean (Bactidol would be good), and above all, stop touching the singaw. You're making it worse.

I think you mean it's caused by a virus. Isn't it the reactivation of the herpes simplex virus? It starts up when the immune system is kinda compromised. I think when it's real bad, some anti-viral medications can be prescribed. But usually, it should resolve on its own, like most viral infections.

Singaw will go away on its own. All the stuff you do just serves to irritate it and probably make it hang around longer.

No, I mean it's bacteria. One belief is that the normal oral bacteria attack the lining of the mouth, the tongue and the gums. Not programmed to fight the body's own bacteria, the immune system ignores the attack and the infected site ulcerates.

Herpes Simplex virus also causes oral sores, but its appearance and distribution is pretty distinct from ordinary aphthous stomatitis (singaw) that it should not be difficult to differentiate between the two. In HSV, The patient has systemic symptoms of fever, malaise, and enlarged lymph nodes. They are typically multiple and clustered, and there are vesicles, unlike in ordinary singaw.

Try Amosan. It works fast daw.

Tawas is effective, try applying it directly on the "singaw", but it's quite painful & has a bitter taste.(I've tried it before and it worked)

  13. #13
Nope, it's what's termed a self-limiting problem and the best solution is to leave it alone and wait for it to leave. In severe cases, as harley mentioned, you can take medicines for it but not for the everyday variety.

How come the tongue seems to be "programmed" to poke singaws ??? It's like it needs to check if it's still there every five minutes...

For me i just let it pass untils it heals...pero seldom naman ako magkaroon niyan (which is a good thing)...Before i used to put salt in it andi never tried it again...actually advantage nga ang singaw for me kasi hindi ako makakain so papayat ako hehehe...=)
