    Monbukagakusho (Monbusho) Scholarships

    hi everybody,

i have a few questions regarding the monbusho scholarship...

first of all, to apply you need 16 years of formal education right? our philippine educational system has only 15 years [from grade school to college]...so how did you make up that extra year? i'm currently enrolled as an MA student but have only taken 6 units so far...and my major, education, has nothing at all to do w/ what i want to study in japan...which is mainly japanese language and culture.

i was told before that i would need to take 12 units of MA courses in order to make up that one year, yet i'm no longer interested in my major. any ideas on what i should do?

second question: what universities were you sent to?

third question: what are your research topics and why? another reason i can't apply yet is because i don't have any firm leads on a topic. i have a vague idea of what i want to do research on --- something about japanese and filipino youth --- but i have no concrete research goals. also, how detailed were your research proposals when you first submitted them?

hope someone can help me out here...thanks a lot

    Monbukagakusho-MEXT Scholarship

Hi! By the way, required ba talaga kaming kumuha ng Japanese Language test?

My professor back then was a scholar under this program. He said that it would be of great help if you know a japanese professor...

scout first for a Japanese professor (in a field that you want to study in) who will take you in as his/her student. yung japanese language exam eh assessment exam lang yun. just to know what class level they put you in if ever you get accepted as a scholar in a university. lately I heard may scholarship exam na rin daw ang Monbusho scholarships, don't know kung ano laman nito.

Thanks for the replies. By the way, I'd be taking up BA History in Japan, if ever na makapasa ako sa scholarship. Oo, may exam na, 4 exams ang i tatake namin: World History, English, Math, and Japanese Language.
May mga kakilala ba kayong mga professors? Wala kasi akong kakilala eh. Do I really need to scout one? Kasi, nakita ko sa requirements, wala naman, I mean, kung talagang important yun, they'll specify naman siguro na I need to look for a prof. Anyway, thanks for the replies.

oh undergrad course? sorry I thought you're a prospective grad student.

Actually, I strongly recommend that you call the Japanese embassy about it, para straight from the source. Mabait naman sila and they could give you all the info you need. The staff handling the scholarships are mostly Filipinos -- and nice Filipinos at that.

Regarding the exam, is that an exam to enter the scholarship, or to enter the school? Kasi to test your Japanese before going there is weird. What I know is, they teach you Japanese after you get the scholarship. Then again, baka nga iba na ang procedures.

I personally won't dare advise you on the rules and procedures, as I might say something wrong. Ayun nga, better to ask the embassy. Pero kung about daily life dito ay willing akong magbigay ng insights.

I hope then to see you here next year. Make sure to make it to a school in Tokyo para exciting.

As far as I know, 2 ang exams. First exam would be for the scholarship. If you passed the scholarship exam, mag-aaral ka ng Japanese language and culture for 1 year sa isang Japanese preparatory school. After that, saka ka mag-eexam for the university entrance.
    Thanks, rave!
By the way, nakakuha na kasi ako ng "sample" application form. Tama nga naman sila, kasi I'm not that good in speaking Japanese. Kaya, they gave me the application form of this year's Monbusho Scholarship, they told me to read on that thing.

Tokyo is nice, but expensive place to live in and the people are not that friendly compared to other places in Japan. Its also very hot in the summer, hotter than Manila at times.

undergrad pala, I guess you don't need to find a professor. yup try calling the japanese embassy set up a meeting. list down all your questions. Studying in Japan is a dream of mine which has yet to come true. hehehe

Keep in mind that Japanese schools are very strict when it comes to years of schooling. Try double-checking the requirements for your undergrad course. Usually, Filipino schooling until undergrad is one year less than that of the Japanese.

If ever, this is easily waived with some paperwork. But you really have to be aware of the issue before you can waive it, right...

@ Rave, ask ko lang my brother really wants to apply for this scholarship kaso nga na-late na siya. Anyway, he just graduated from high school. Instead, he enrolled na lang muna locally and at the same time, to get ready for the exams next year. Ask ko lang tips or reviewer for the exams. Para naman makapaghanda na siya.

    Thanks!

Guys, i really need your help.

I applied for a Panasonic Scholarship sa Japan. This is for my masters in engineering. I recently got an email for an interview and exam. This is my first exam/interview for this kind of thing.

Meron ba kayong idea what kind of exam i will be taking?

technical kaya? or yung usual entrance exams...

What kind of interview will i have, yung panel kaya or normal interview?

I really do not have any idea..

    Monbukagakusho Question

    Hi! Question lang po,

My brother is a monbusho scholar. He is required to study japanese language kasi japanese talaga lecture sa school. 6 months siguro siyang nag-aral.

Hehe.

    Kumusta interview last year?

Note: Year 2000 pa ako nag-apply.

    Exam: Yaikks, wala akong matandaan.
Interview: Interview by panel of 5. Two Japanese officials of Panasonic, one was a Pinoy prof from UP (naging kakilala ko rin years after), and the other 2 Pinoys I can't remember anymore. I remember it more as an assessment of how I could answer the questions they posed, kasi ilan lang yung natatandaan kong questions about my field of study: ano ang gusto kong pag-aralan sa japan, at bakit sa japan ko gustong pag-aralan yun.

During my time, they strictly enforced the 16-year rule of undergrad and pre-undergrad schooling.
