    Lightbulb PUBLISHING ur own BOOK

publishing nga ba tawag dun? *** ipapa-print mo then idi-distribute sa bookstores?

    anyway, here are my questions:

    1. have you tried submitting ur work (book) to a publisher?

    2. pano *** process nung having ur book printed?

    3. pede ba pseudonym gamitin pag balak mo mag-publish ng sarili mong book?

    4. what if gusto ko ilang copies lang ng books ang i-print tapos babayad na lang ako sa cost nung printing, pede ba un?

    5. penge naman insights on how you go about this process of submitting to a publisher then printing then distributing ur book to bookstores, etc.......

i really have no idea on this matter kc talaga......

    thanks!

    follow up questions...

how do u send ur materials to the publishing company?

may format ba yun? or i can just have it printed sa bondpaper then send it to them?

    thanks again...

send a proposal, which includes working title, a sypnosis and why the publisher should invest in your book.

teka, i read your first post, you wanna self-publish a book? meaning ikaw ang gagastos for printing at ikaw ang magtatrabaho to distribute it?

Hehe - my "crush" and one of my best friends compiled all our works and came up with the anthology of all our literary creations. Di siya official publication. It was just something the three of us decided to do this last summer.

hmm... we're starting to deviate here.

the thing is, you dont even have to submit a COMPLETED work. you can show the first few chapters, then the publisher will decide whether or not theyd like to invest on your little project. if they do, im pretty sure the'll guide you on other matters (like design, etc) so you dont have to go into all the trouble of asking these questions (smiles)

also, i think its better if you go for an official publication. if you end up selling a ton of copies like bob ong or f sionil jose, theres a real sense of acomplishment there, innit?

    1. have you tried submitting ur work (book) to a publisher?
    nope.

    2. pano *** process nung having ur book printed?
i believe you have to submit a manuscript first or a sample of your works or what you'd like to be published. you have to contact publishing companies first and give them your proposal. i think that one way is that if you wish to have them "sponsor" you, they'll invest in your work which will defray the printing and production costs of publishing your work. if you wish to produce your book yourself, all they will do is print it. they may recommend an artist who can do the book design, chapters, etc. and also editors/proofreaders to edit your book. or maybe you can do it yourself.
as for distribution, pag medyo malaking publishing company, may tie ups yan usually with big bookstores like NBS and PowerBooks or Goodwill. Pero pag independent ka, you have to approach these bookstores by yourself.

    3. pede ba pseudonym gamitin pag balak mo mag-publish ng sarili mong book?

    i think puwede.

    4. what if gusto ko ilang copies lang ng books ang i-print tapos babayad na lang ako sa cost nung printing, pede ba un?

may minimum number of orders usually ang printers otherwise kasi lugi sila. meron pang cost of paper, yung colors na gagamitin, etc. you have to consider those things.

    5. penge naman insights on how you go about this process of submitting to a publisher then printing then distributing ur book to bookstores, etc.......

medyo clueless din ako diyan. i'll ask around.

    Publishing Nightmares

CHILDREN IN EXILE was written and published by Vincent C. Sales himself.

Take it from him--mahirap gawin yung whole shebang. First, you write the book. Then you look for a good printer. You do the editing. You do the paying. You also do the distribution.

I just read Vince's book. Marami kang mapupulot sa foreword niya. Check it out in Power Books.

anyone here who knows the addresses or contact numbers or emails of the publishing companies here in the philippines?

  16. #16

    hmm...

www.soyouwanna.com sana ganito ka-simple yung process.

    find an agent.

submit a cover letter (one page) basically pimping your book.

bundle that with an actual proposal: synopsis, outline, your market, your competition, everything.

then wait. the agent will do everything it can to publish you if he takes it. no cash payment involved, he works for free until he gets you published. he gets 15% of your payment if you do get published. he will edit and recommend corrections to your proposal, and then sends it to publishing people. they will contact you and send you critiques. if someone does find it interesting to publish, you start writing your book.

well, it's one thing to sell tons of copies of your book. but to simply write a story that you yourself love - that's a terrific accomplishment on it's own.
