Ano advice nyo sa may hepa b na kumukuha ng nursing or caregiver course na gusto mag abroad?

  7. #67
hmmm...a person with hepa b becoming a nurse or caregiver...

i don't really know, but the above said jobs may post a risk to the health person giving care given the nature of the jobs... even if let's say you are permitted to go abroad...

  8. #68
question po, if a person has been treated for hepatitis several years ago, does it mean that he is still a carrier? can he still transmit the virus?

8 million Filipinos unaware of being Hepa B carriers

    HEALTH
    http://www.mb.com.ph/HLTH2006020755645.html#
    Tue Feb 07,2006

Six to eight million Filipinos all over the country are estimated to be infected with Chronic Hepatitis B (CHB) – and they don’t even know it.

This was revealed recently in a media briefing held at the Hyatt Hotel & Casino in Malate, and attended by various experts on liver health.

Hepatitis B is recognized by the World Health Organization as the most common serious liver infection in the world. The disease is so serious that lack of treatment may lead to cirrhosis of the liver, liver cancer, liver failure, and eventually death.

A study made by research group Synovate Healthcare revealed that most patients suffering from chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in Asian countries China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Korea, initially did not suspect that they were infected.

The same study conducted in the Philippines from November to December of 2004 also showed similar results. Most of them found out about the virus "by chance" through a blood test, not knowing that diagnosis of the hepatitis B virus is best made through a simple blood test. Some said they discovered the presence of the virus when they had their routine medical check-up.

According to Dr. Joey Sollano, president of the Asia Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), there is a high prevalence of CHB cases in Asia because of the region’s impoverished state and poor hygiene practices.

Another key finding of the survey showed CHB patients have a poor understanding of the disease. Most of these patients declared knowledge of the general causes of hepatitis B only, and that about 71 percent actually have wrong notions as to how they can acquire the disease such as through sharing of food and utensils, kissing, sneezing, water and alcohol abuse.

What’s alarming is that most people do not know that the disease is mainly contracted the same way as sexually transmitted diseases – through unsafe sex and through mother-to-child transmission. This actually resulted to the fact that around 30 percent of kids below 10 years old are infected with Hepa B.

Other means of contracting the disease are: Child-to-child transmission (most likely as a result of contact with skin sores, small breaks in the skin, or mucous membranes with blood), unsafe injections, transfusions, and other skin-penetrating procedures including acupuncture, piercing and tattooing, and even the sharing of toothbrushes and razors.

CHB usually goes undetected as the disease doesn’t show any symptoms until the time when infections occur. Some tell-tale signs that the disease has gone for the worse are: Abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and bloated stomach (due to the enlargement of the liver).

Dr. Lulu Bravo, executive director of the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination, said that the best defense against Hepa B, specially for children, is vaccination.

"Babies who were born from mothers who are carriers, still have a big chance of actually not contacting the disease," she said. However, she also stressed that it is vital that they be immuned at an early age so they won’t be able to develop infections in the future. Dr. Bravo also pointed out that one of the signs a person should be tested for Hepa B is if one member of the family died of, or has liver ailments.

The severity of Hepa B in the country is highlighted by a law which requires pregnant women to be tested from the virus before giving birth. The downside however, is that the law which obligates all babies to have vaccination against Hepa B is pending up to now.

This year, key medical societies composed of the APASL; Philippine Society of Gastroenterology (PSG); Hepatology Society of the Philippines (HSP); Philippine Cancer Society (PCS); Philippine Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (PASLD) and Philippine Foundation for Vaccination (PFV), endeavor to provide updated information about the illness as part of their advocacy to build awareness not only among CHB patients but within the medical community as well.

As an initial salvo of this campaign, the First Hepatitis B Summit will be held on Feb. 22 at the Dusit Hotel Nikko in Makati City. Issues to be discussed are: Difficulty in surfacing patients due to lack of awareness; low adoption of preventive vaccination; treatment paradigm of non-specialist MDs; opportunity to surface new prescribers; and other relevant topics surrounding CHB in the Philippines.

    Hi

My dad was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, he is in the states, the problem is that they cant treat his multiple myeloma because he has hepatitis b. He wasnt that active, I mean he always stays at home and watches TV. We dont know where he got his Hepatitis B.

Is there anyway we could treat his Hepatitis B so that we could treat his Multiple Myeloma?
