Is this new excise tax scheme implentation is applied to all cars available here in the phillippines?
I'm planning to purchase a honda city/civic i haven't made up my mind for the car yet.
yes. no exemptions as of Sept 11
What I'm curious with, though, is just how much it'll affect the prices. Based on who's interpretation of the excise tax you believe in, it'll either:

raise the price of all vehicles,
either raise and lower the prices, depending on the type of vehicle,
or
lower the price of all vehicles.
The DTI says it'll raise the price of AUV's while it'll lower those of certain luxury cars like the more compact European cars like the BMW 3-series. However, PDI's Aida Sevilla-Mendoza says that it'll raise the price of all vehicles while her colleague, Al Mendoza, believes that it'll bring down the cost.
So, who's telling the truth?

they should lower the prices of the bmw 3-series, mb c-class, jag xtype, volvo s60 and some suvs that are not luxery like the prado 3.6 v6, mitsubishi pajero GEN 3 gas. same goes to semi-luxery cars like the 350z, RX-8, Impreza, Evo 8
My understanding of that excise tax new scheme is that, AUVs will definitely increase in price.
Cars will generally be cheaper for those below 1,000,000 pesos, and those above 1 million will be more expensive.
Not sure though, but i believe, if the car is cheap, it'll get cheaper, and if its expensive, it'll get more expensive..
I just got a text this AM from one of the Nissan peeps on the Nissan XTrail prices... it went down by over 100K.
Nissan XTrail:
2.0 4x2: P1.059M
2.0 4x4: P1.165M
2.5 4x4: P1.270M
slamm: that's a big price drop. the pre-auto excise price for the XTrail were 150-200K higher than what was SMSed to you by your Nissan dealer.
Under Republic Act 9224 or the Auto Excise Tax Law, automobiles worth P600,000 and below will have a 2% tax; those over P600,000 to P1.1 million, 2-10.2%; over P1.1 million to P2.1 million, 10.2-24.4%; and over P2.1 million, 24.4%.
According to the Manila Times the Lower House wants to keep the tax-exempt status of the AUVs. My thoughts on this are that it isnt fair for every Filipino. Just because it can sit more people doesnt merit a tax exemption. People want cheaper cars not larger capacity ones.
While according to ABS-CBN the new auto excise tax law to take effect on October 1.
So if anyone wants to play safe check out cars after October 1.
Here's an example of how this new tax scheme will have an effect on car prices.
Volvo XC90
Pre-excise cost: About P3.8mil
Post-excise cost: About P2.3mil
Mercedes Benz C200 Kompressor
Pre-excise cost: About P2.9mil
Post-excise cost: About P1.2mil
I still have reservations with the new tax system though it is better than our last one. The government should have placed a flatrate tax system on all prices of cars. 10% on all cars so walang dayaan. For instance a dealer has a Civic costing 700K so would be covered by the 2-10.2% tax bracket and a consumer requests that the wheels, aircon, radio, headlights, seats, etc. be removed to lower it down to 599,999.00 to lower the tax to 2% thus beating the new tax sytem.
I just read an ad from BMW in PDI yesterday. It was something of an open letter/marketing ad from BMW Phil. President, Mark Gilbert, for their 316i and 318i models. In it, he said that they're now selling the aforementioned models at the new post excise tax prices and that they definitely won't be lowered any further.
The letter was meant to prod the public into buying these models now, and this comes about three months after they also placed an ad in PDI telling potential customers to buy their cars then because they weren't sure just how far-reaching the effects of the excise tax law would be, but the gist of the ad was that the tax would increase the prices of all their models.
Just because the tax scheme will be put in effect doesn't mean you will drastically feel the actual tax rates.
Note that aside from engineering, branding and positioning also plays a part in the cost of a vehicle. This will be very apparent to those brands with models spanning the spectrum of prices.
Take for example Ford.
With the expected increase on the price of the Expedition, they would need to control the effect of the excise tax on the Expedition so they would need to counter balance the increase with a not so big decrease in the price of its other model.
Just of argument since I don't know the actual figures:
So instead of a 500K price increase on the Expedition and a 50K price drop on the Lynx, Ford may position the Expedition at a lower price so the price increase will be a managable 200K and the price drop of the Lynx will be smaller, say 20K instead of the projected 50K.
BigDumpling: Would you have the old & new pricing for the 316 & 318?
palin: Any price decrease is a welcome one and those who cling to the old price scheme would loose out to grey market imports that have all their papers in order & paid all the proper duties required and rival car brands who are willing to price down their cars to a better level.
If you're buying a car within the next 15 then wait for Oct 1. A few days cant hurt if you save mucho dinero.![]()
Is the quoted price for the Mercedes Benz C200 Kompressor Sedan true? Geewhiz if it's true, I think I could finally afford a new Mercedes Benz!Originally posted by Pao|o

Anybody here knows how much are the BMW 318i and Volkswagen New Beetle?
so how much are M3s in the PHilippines now?
Sorry, BMW Phil. didn't include the old and new prices of those models in their ads. I think they never really post the prices of their new models, just the pre-owned units.Originally posted by Pao|o

As for the question re: the M3's in the Philippines, the local Beemer office will be selling 2 units with the M-Sequential semi-auto transmission. Since they'll be importing 2 units only, you have to buy them direct from BMW Phil. and not through any of their dealers. I don't know just how much they'll be selling them but considering the fact that they're selling the 318i Limousine version with the M-Sequential tranny at an almost obscene P8M pre-excise tax, I'd say the M3 will fetch about the same price, if not a little more.
the pre-excise tax price is about what was quoted to me when i had my car serviced. the post-excise tax price just my personal computation based on the US SRP.Originally posted by talipandas9
