Changes in the LCM Forum. Read NOW.

The LCM forum is now divided into 6 subforums. Please take the time to famliarize yourself with what they are so that off-topic threads will be minimized. All the existing threads will be moved to the proper subforum in the weeks to come. Some redundant threads will be merged. Some will be moved out of LCM into the proper forum. If a thread you started is missing, you can post here to inquire where they were moved since we won't be using redirects.

Please keep in the mind the following forum-specific rules below:

1. Sexually-explicit posts will not be tolerated in the Intimacy and Passion subforum. Posts will be edited or deleted and members warned or banned without notice.

2. PEx is an open forum which can be accessed by the general public. Therefore, all posts must be suitable for reading by members of all ages. Be aware of this, as moderators will edit or remove posts that they feel are not suitable for general viewing.

3. Some subforums deal with a topics that are potentially controversial. As such, they will be moderated very strictly.

4. Participation in the Intimacy and Passion and Transgender Relationships subforums is restricted to members who are over 18. Since PEx has no way to verify this, we will take your participation in the subforums as an indication that you are no longer a minor. PEx, Inc. will not be liable for any direct, incidental, special, consequential, indirect or punitive damages that result from the use of, or inability to use, the information in PinoyExchange.com.

5. We encourage parental supervision for members who are minors.

6. The LCM forum is not a matchmaking forum. If you are looking for a date or a significant other, post in the Personals forum.

7. Sexual soliciation is strictly prohibited. Offenders will be banned without notice.

8. Members will not be able to start threads in the main LCM forum. Post new threads in the proper subforum.

Er, that disclaimer that you wrote about PEx not being liable is ineffective if you do not implement a valid method of screening for users who are above 18. If you claim that those sub-forums are only for people above 18, then access to those forums presupposes that you have successfully screened the age of the users and have approved them.

Basically, since you don't implement a valid and technical way of age screening, that disclaimer is useless. It would be like implementing the R18 rule in cinemas by assuming that the ones watching are above 18 (without the owners of the cinema checking IDs). If caught by the government, who's at fault...the watchers, or the cinema owners? Both actually.

Oh well...you're right, it is a pickle on how to implement this. But congratulations on doing your best to improve the LCM forum.

how could a bona fide UP graduate not tolerate sex-oriented exchanges in their proper fora? S&I in peyups.com has never suffered because of that sex-talk.

Not tolerate? We've always tried to be open-minded about the threads posted in LCM. We've never stopped PExers from discussing sex. What we've prohibited are obscene threads whose only purpose is to disgust and shock, not encourage meaningful discussion.

There are minors in PEx. We've heard concerned parents voice their worries about how threads go too far, especially here in LCM. It's because of them that we try to implement the rules strictly.

If a no holds barred forum works for Peyups, good for them [if it's really no holds barred, why does the forum have a moderator? How come threads there also get deleted?] What works for Peyups won't always work for PEx. If we tend to be a bit more conservative around here and it doesn't suit you, then I'm sorry to hear that. We've been running this community for 4 years; we'd like to believe we know what we're doing.

Mac admires Peyups.com for a number of reasons. I'll mention them to answer your challenges:

1. Peyups.com is strictly moderated (much more than other boards). Moderators ban not just the nicks but IP addresses of people who flame and insult. No warnings are given. Our office IP got banned once because Mac challenged one mod to a debate.

2. Posting mere smilies and other garbage items are not allowed. Posts of this kind are automatically deleted.

3. For the S&I forum, it's true, the talk is basically no-holds barred sex but with two very stringent limits. First, there must be no open solicitation (the PM function is a wonderful invention). Second, disclosures that can compromise a person's privacy are not allowed. Both offenses merit an immediate ban of one's IP address.

I got our IP banned once because I made an open proposal (I remember it was more of a joke).

Getting one's IP ban lifted takes at least one month.

We can choose to ban IPs and do so when we know it'll produce results. IP banning only helps if a member has a static IP, which most PExers do not have. Majority of the PExers either post from their schools or use prepaid/postpaid dial-up accounts which means dynamic IPs. When a repeat offender has a static IP address, then we IP ban him.

Unlike in Peyups, you will never get banned for challenging a mod to a debate around here. Whether that moderator accepts your challenge or not is another thing altogether.

We discussd this in the last mod meeting and we're seriously considering it. We're also looking into imposing a minimum character-limit per post for certain forums.

Getting one's IP ban lifted takes at least one month.

If your IP gets banned in PEx, it's almost always a permanent ban unless you prove that that you're not the wrongdoer and have been unjustly revoked of your right to access PEx. [Right, mac_bolan00? ]

Everyone, please start posting new threads in the proper subforum. My work gets doubled when I have to move new threads from the main forum to the subforums. I've locked the main forum so you won't be able to start new threads there.

the 'furthest' explanation to this is when that idiot tyanak_me once published a girl's lewd PMs to him. obviously, he and the girl had some sort of agreement and the girl reneged. so tyanak, in the heat of passion, retaliated by posting the girl's PMs openly on the boards. yup, our IP got banned because of that.

i didn't really challenge a mod to a debate. i just told her off for having an IQ so low one can kick it around on the living room floor.

Posting PM's without the permission of the sender, especially if it contains information never intended to be posted in public, will obviously get you banned.

hi, ada!!! we all love what you did to the LCM forum, and we from the g2g thread are very happy that we're back where we came from.

anyway, since you're looking into a way to enforce the 18-above rule, can't you place a page between the displaying of threads in a forum and the link that leads to it that will both display a warning/disclaimer and ask members to certify that they are above legal age? that is, though not always effective, is legal and defensible in the court of law. Kaya lang, sometimes PeX takes forever to load and this might cause further glitches. (ahay, hindi rin pala ako helpful) well...i tried...
