Are there NHL (Ice Hockey) fans here?

Just curious if there are fans who follow the fastest sport on the ice.

nice to know someone here likes ice hockey...

Naslund should've won the MVP, but Forsbeg got lucky in the last few games. Got a good team, no problem in scoring with Bertuzzi and Morrisson around, they just need to be consistent on defense.

I'm a NY Islander fan, esp. Alexei Yashin, though performed below expectations last season. Hope they do good this season.

I also like the Rangers, Sens, Ducks and the Avs, now that Kariya and Selanee are in their fold, minus Patrick Roy at the net.

yeah, can't wait for October to come in. the free agency market was very colorful, big name stars signing one year deals and taking huge paycuts, like Kariya because of the league's collective bargaining agreement. their cba will expire na ksi next year, wherein a lot of people fear a long work stoppage, hope it gets resolved soon. what are ur fave teams? players?

lucky for you guys, you get coverage, espn is not showing any coverage of the NHL here anymore. the last time i watched it on local cable was the redwings-carolina stanley cup finals, i had to ask my cousins at ottawa to send me recorded games of the regular season and the playoffs.

aawww... too bad walang hockey coverage diyan. taga san ka ba leftwinger?

sayang nga si Markus Naslund last season! kung mas gumawa lang siya nung last few weeks tsaka kung naipanalo nila yung Northwest division he would've won both the Pearson and the Hart trophies.

aside from the Canucks i also like Boston, mainly because of Joe Thornton. very talented guy, bata pa pero captain na.

i dunno.. mejo nainis ako kay Kariya. after all his talk about loyalty to the ducks and everything, bigla na lang lilipat sa Avs. oh well.. bahala siya.

so which team do you guys think Curtis Joseph wil go to?

For sure pasok ang Toronto sa playoffs. As long as Belfour plays consistently, he might find himself playing the way he did when he was in Dallas and won the Cup in '99.

Yeah, too bad talaga that espn doesn't have the hockey season in it's asian line-up. me here in east manila.

Thornton was dubbed as the coming of the next Mario Lemieux, can score, pass, create opportunities, play defense, kso injury prone sya the previous seasons.

Yun nga lang disappointing kay Kariya eh, but he wants to win a cup, and he likes to be with his old team mate Selanne, and a contending team. Mas magaling naman pumalit nya sa Anaheim eh, si Sergei Fedorov, nagsawa din sya sa Detroit.

Joseph, if there's a team that needs goal tending, the Avs might take him or trade for him. Problem is Joseph's contract is too expensive ($8M), and difficult for it has a no trade clause. The Islanders might gamble on Joseph too, they can't rely on Snow and other untested netminders. Until now, the Wings don't know how to get rid of him.

Last season, the Stars collapsed in the playoffs, losing to an inexperienced and surprising Minnessota Wild team. Can't blame the Stars, hobbled by injuries to key players like Bill Guerin. The trade of Jamie Langenbrunner to the NJ Devils for Jason Arnott sort of complicated their system because of the different styles they play. Let's hope Mike Modano, recently promoted as team captain, after Derian Hatcher's departure to Detroit, would lead the stars back up and possibly to the Stanley Cup round.

What team do you think will be dominant in the regular season after the crazy free agency deals?

  13. #13
The Mighty Ducks got mightier when they add both center Prospal and Federov. They lost a great player like Kariya but he barely made his presence felt in their run last year except that game 6 when he took a shot and got back to score a goal. Fedorov is absolutely a better player. Giguere performance and is very encouraging. He was lights out . The thing is I'm sure teams will be more aware. Ducks will made another run. LA Kings will be better this time. They have an injury season last year when most of their players miss games cuz of injury but if center Jason Allison returns to his form, they will get to the playoff.

I love the Red Wings. I also like the Bruins [because of Joe Thornton din!] and the Sens. I hope they do something about that CBA. some players have even said that they are going to retire if there's indeed a work stoppage after this season. that sucks.

anyway, there's been some talks between the Wings and the Bruins regarding Cujo but it was halted after Cujo underwent an ankle surgery. some said they were close to an agreement but when he had that minor surgery, I think the Bruins pulled back a bit coz they were worrying about his condition. I just don't know if they started talking again.

The Ducks got Prospal and Federov, but they still have to sign Adam Oates who was a factor in their run for the Stanley Cup last season, problem is, his desired wage.

The LA Kings got a lift in it's line-up this season, with the return of Luc Robitaille after a 2 year stint with Detroit.

With Felix Potvin still recoverring from an injury, they tapped Roman Cechmanek who played for Philadelphia last season to man the net. Cechmanek is a solid netminder but becomes inconsistent sometimes, especially in a big game.

There's no word yet if the Bruins and the Wings continued their talks on Joseph after that ankle surgery, because Cujo will be out for six weeks and the season start's in a month. Still, they have to find someone solid to mind the net. Steve Shields didn't play well the whole season and Jeff Hackett didn't fare well neither.

Boston let one of it's best players go, defenseman Bryan Berard due to an arbitration worth $2.1M, but was able to sign Brian Rolston for another year when they accepted the awarded arbitration by the NHL worth $3.175M.

yeah, it looks like the Kings have also beefed up their line-up, getting Cechmaneck, etc. ang tight na ng Western Conference ngayon! delikado Canucks ko. hehe..

i heard baka magretire na si Adam Oates. sana wag muna.

leftwinger... wow galing naman. ikaw lang ata taga-Pinas na alam kong very into hockey. do you play or something?

The Wings also signed Ray Whitney, a very deadly scorer to make up for the loss of Federov and Robitaille, and also got a great defenseman in Derian Hatcher. Don't worry, solid na goaltending ng Canucks mo, able back up na nila si Johann Hedberg eh, pwede ring starter, could give Cloutier a run for the no. spot on goal. Parang Dwayne Roloson and Manny Fernandez ang dating ng tanderm nila.

It's a big blow for the Ducks if they don't re-sign Oates, or for any team interested in him. His asking price is too high for his age daw they say, pero experience wise and talent, it's too lofty, they didn't disclose the figures though.

Di naman ako lang into hockey dito sa Pinas eh, marami din kami siguro. There are kids and some people who troop to the SM Malls in Mega or at Southmall in Las Pinas to play. I can't play any active sport na eh, i have a bad left ankle.

    The Wings net

It's gonna be mind-bending month for the Redwings the coming weeks. Talks on acquiring Cujo is on hold, for teams interested in him, want to see first if his ankle is OK. With both Cujo and Hasek are worth $ 8M each, pretty hefty for team who wants it all, and has all the resources to get who they want. There's word spreading that Cujo will remain with the team, and could act as Hasek's back-up or vice versa.

This situation would leave Detroit's prime back-up Manny Legace without a job. Legace they say is a sure starter for a team that acquires him, if the said scenario consumates, for a backup who has the potential for a number one post in goal. For teams lacking a solid performer in the crease with a tight budget, he'll sure make it.

Just sharing what's going on in Detroit's messy crease. No offense to the Wings fans out there.
