The Special Mother

Most women become mothers by accident, some by choice, a few by social pressures and a couple by habit. Today, a few women will become mothers of special children. Did you ever wonder how mothers of special children are chosen?

Somehow, I visualize God hovering over Earth selecting from among women to become mothers with great care and deliberation. As He observes, He instructs His angels to make note in a giant ledger.

Finally, He passes a name to an angel and smiles, "Give her a special child."

The angel is curious, "Why this one, God? She's so happy."

"Exactly," smiled God. "Could I give a special child a mother who does not know laughter? That would be cruel!"

"But does she have patience?"asks the angel.

"I don't want her to have too much patience or she will drown in a sea of self-pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wear off, she'll handle it."

"I watched her today. She has the sense of self and independence that are so rare and necessary in a mother. You see, the child I'm going to give her has his own world and that is not going to be easy."

"But, Lord, I don't think she even believes in you."

God smiled. " No matter, I can fix that. This one is perfect. She has just enough selfishness."

The angel gasps. "Selfishness? Is that a virtue?"

God nods. "If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she'll never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't realize it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take for granted a spoken word. She will never consider a step ordinary. When her child says "Mama" for the first time, she will be witness to a miracle and know it. When she describes a tree or a sunset to her child, she will see it as few people ever see my creations. I will permit her to see clearly the things I see -- ignorance, cruelty, prejudice -- and allow her to rise above them. She will never be alone. I will be at her side every minute every day of her life because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side."

This is so nice...

I've a friend who has an autistic child. What's fascinating about her son is the fact that "Reggie" is a very warm and happy child. Whenever he meets someone, he would open up his arms and embrace you, with an innocent smile that would touch your very heart! He is so trusting that he would hold your hand and you can lead him anywhere....

... and yes, I believe she is a special mother to deserve a special child....

My son also has autism. This article was given to me by one of his teachers in a special school. He is also malambing and likes to be cuddled.

There's a couple that been praying for a long time to have a child,then after their frequent prayer, God finally answer them and the wife give birth to their first child w/ Down Syndrome,and then the new dad always get some negative remarks from his co-workers and one time a co-workers says " look at you,you keep on praying for a child,but what happen, God give you instead an abnormal one",but the guy who is a very kind hearted and love his child so much reply "and I thank Him more bec He gave me the child not to you."

there's a school in Antipolo, Montessori Integrated School of Antipolo or MISA for elementary and MCHI for nursery and kinder, it specializes on teaching special kids. What's good about this school is that may kasama sila na mga normal kids. They learn to mingle with them and basta okey yung school na yun. I graduated elementary there. The teachers are very warm. I think you should try it.

Hi.. I also have a son who is a special child . I know that its not my fault neither is it the fault of my son . Being a parent of a child with Autism I know that we have so many unanswered questions. Hi, sakura! My son went to school in MISA from 1998-1999. It was his first taste of school life. He was barely three years old then. Unfortunately his developmentalist asked him to be pulled out coz she felt that their system was not working for my son. But I have to admit, they have very good teachers there and I could see that they loved my son and took really good care of him.

so sorry to hear that...i think there are still other schools for special kids...

you know they are really special because they tend to have specialized talents..i was amazed by one of my classmates because he can memorize an entire directory!!! not only that, you can say like "aug. 15, 1864" and he will tell you what day it was. it's amazing!

i hope you find the right school for your kid and wish you well...

His doctor recommended another school where she thought my son would develop better and faster. With God's help, and the help of the teachers and therapists who really persevered in teaching my son, he is now in Grade 1 level in a regular school. No more therapists and special school for him but the struggle is still there. Whenever he has problems in school, I still cry. But we're hanging on...

hi sakura......my tita worked in this skul until we left for florida.... napakaganda ngf skul na to though nde kao nag aral dto at taga laguna ako at nss flrodia na nga kami ngyun...i had a chance to viit that skul at agree ako sayo nakikihalubilo ang mga special children sa mga normal at sa totoo *** nde sila tinuturing na special children dun prng lahat ng tao dun pantay pantay!!!!!!!! tsaka may experience ako sa isng specila kid dun eh kaya nde ko tla makakalimutan kng pano maging malambing ang mga bata dun!!!!!!!!!!god bless at ingats mga madirs!!!!!
