Italianni's - SM Mall Of Asia (Thursday, Feb 10, 2011)
I've been living in the Philippines for a little over a year now. I've eaten at fast food chains many times and have had my fair share of stomach upsets and whatnot after eating, but I've never come across a cockroach while eating out until today. Funnily enough, no, it wasn't Chow King or any other fast food chain for that matter. It was a decent fine dining restaurant, Italianni's (Mall Of Asia branch).
I guess that's the main reason I wanted to share this experience.
Even if you're paying more for your food, it doesn't mean that you should let your guard down - always, always inspect your food!
I ate at Italianni's with my family and it was my order that had the cockroach mixed in, lol. Lucky me, huh?

I ordered the chicken marsala risotto. It was a breaded chicken fillet with sauce and risotto (rice cooked in broth). I was lucky enough to spot the cockroach a minute or so after eating. I was about to spoon up some more of the risotto and that's when I felt something that was a bit hard. At first look, it was something black. Upon closer inspection, it had legs, and yup, I confirmed that it was indeed a cockroach LOL. I was laughing a bit and at the same time disgusted. I probably would've been pissed if I found out while the damn thing was in my mouth already, but luckily I spotted it first.
My mum called the waiter and he said, "Ay! Sorry po!" and then he took the plate away and a few seconds later, the manager came up to us. He was very apologetic and was very professional with how he handled the situation. Although this is probably the worst fine dining experience I've had to date in terms of cleanliness, the service was still top notch and he didn't give us sh!tty attitude, so that really helped. He was very nice and offered to replace my dish with another (I picked the herb roast chicken) and also told us that our meal was free. He also offered dessert, so we ordered a ripe mango shake, pana cotta with blueberry sauce, creme brulee, and fresh fruit platter (there was four of us). The waiters were also extra nice all of a sudden and were very attentive, probably because they got told off. On the way out, I saw the chef sitting outside, not sure what happened to him LOL. Oh, the manager also gave us his business card in case we have any concerns - I thought that was also very professional of him. His name was Clint Brian Peck.
So far I feel fine, don't feel sick or anything, so I'm pretty happy. No complaints, but I probably won't be eating there again (or at least that branch any way). The greenbelt branch was better.
