St. Paul's Chapel
this is where the FDNY, NYPD and other rescue teams rested, to catch their breath during Search-and-Rescue (SAR) operations in Ground Zero during 9/11. the chapel is filled with tributes from all over America and the rest of the world. it was a very humbling experience to be in this place..
A Show of Solidarity
A priest's vestment covered with patches of police/fire/SAR teams from all over the world who came to help in Ground Zero. This chasuble was actually worn by the priest during Eucharist services in the months following Sept. 11. halos di ko mapigilan ang luha ko ng makita ko ito
Do not miss this chapel when you wander around Ground Zero.

9/11 Memorial
Unfortunately we were not able to get inside this preview site, and to the main "9/11 Memorial" which was on, and around, the actual footprints of the original WTC Twin Towers.
The queue was sooo long, and to think those in line already had their pre-booked passes! We were told that we should've booked online (@ www.911memorial.org) at least a week before the actual date of visit. Tourists were hopping off here by the busload!
One World Trade Center
"1 WTC" now rises above the surrounding area near the footprints of the original WTC Twin Towers. Scheduled to be completed by 2013, this will become the 3rd tallest building in the world.
Liberty Park
we took a breather here
one of the many donut, hotdog, shawarma, falafel food carts in the park, office workers and tourists just ate on the benches. "the cheapest lunch" in Lower Manhattan we were told.

a Staten Island ferry passes by the Statue of Liberty
Statue of Liberty
we were not so lucky that day, twas rainy, cold and foggy.. the weather was just horrible.. so gloomy.
view of Lower Manhattan from the ferry. '1 WTC' in Ground Zero is that tall building, its top shrouded by fog..
...
^^ thats the free one, hahaha. Were not aware of it untill we the ferry arrived on the island, so we have to run and do the turnaround trip right awayDid you managed to go to the statue itself using the smaller one few meters away from that place? Or you skip it due to that weather? were lucky.. it was clear blue skiess, love it.
^^yep, the Staten Island ferry ride is free, as stated in the LP NYC guide book. likewise, we quickly boarded the next ferry back to Lower Manhattan.
our original plan was to go to the Statue of Liberty, the Staten Island ferry ride was just the "plan B". turns out that the queue for the Lady Liberty tix was so long, and it was late in the day and we have an early dinner date with our friend to catch. so, we skipped it.
sayang nga e, but we'll be back.
random thoughts:
the DIY "Lower Manhattan" itinerary by LP is just perfect. it was designed to let you view Liberty at sunset. you start off from Fulton, or WTC subway station, and walk yourself down towards Battery Park.
or, if you start off from the last subway station at Southern Ferry, you'll catch Liberty at early morning light. then, when you get back to Battery Park, you can walk yourself up towards WTC.
