colour falls in the realm of qualias. Its a subjective exprience which one cannot describe, or atleast make another feel. It seems colour is sensual experience, and experiences are not universal but individualistic. Thus, to describe colour red, we can, as one of the post seem to show, describe it scientifically but not give its full essence.

red is a color that is not any color other than itself. such that if i see X, and that X is red, it would be that

"it is always true that if X and Y are identical, then Y also is red."

However, in the case that if X and Y are not identical, of that if red would only be a property of X, rather than X itself, it would be true that

"it is not always false that 'it is always that if X and Y are identical, then Y is also red'"

this may be quite ambiguous and lacking in empirical data but at least i tried it in a logical level (assuming that the inquisitor is blind)

How could we describe the color red to a blind man?

I guess this is what eigenvector007 is trying to ask... am I correct?

If so, its a difficult task. You cant just tell him red is intense & pure or its your favorite color. Although its factual, you cant say it has the longest wavelength or it resembles the color of blood either.

Many scientists and doctors alike believe that even a blind man since birth have seen the colors: red, yellow and orange. I am just not sure how excatly they conducted the study.

But in any case, if I were to describe the color red to a blind man, I would... I could... geesh.. I dont know what to do or where to start. I'll get back on this. I'll give it a thought muna..
