I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
    by Hank Williams
as performed by Holly Cole Trio
(on the album Girl Talk, 1990)

    I hear that lonesome whippoorwill
She sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry

Did you ever see a night so long
    As time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind the clouds
To hang his head and cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
    When leaves begin to die
It's cos he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star
    Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry
I'm so lonesome I could cry

    Solemn Hour

Whoever now weeps somewhere in the world,
weeps without reason in the world,
    weeps over me.

Whoever now laughs somewhere in the night,
laughs without reason in the night,
    laughs at me.

Whoever now wanders somewhere in the world,
wanders without reason out in the world,
    wanders toward me.

Whoever now dies somewhere in the world,
dies without reason in the world,
    looks at me.

By the River Piedra, I sat down and wept. There is a legend that everthing that falls in the water of this river - leaves, insects, the feathers of birds - is transformed into the rocks that make the riverbed. If only I could tear out my heart and hurl it into the current, then my pain and longing would be over, and I could finally forget.
By the River Piedra, I sat down and wept. The winter air chills the tears on my cheeks, and my tears fall into the cold waters that course past me. . Somewhere this river joins another, then another, until - far from my heart and sight - all of them merge with the sea.
May my tears run just as far that my love might never know that one day I cried for him. May my tears run just as far, that I might forget the river piedra, the monastary, the church in the Pyrenees, the mists, and the paths we walked together. I shall forget the roads, the mountains, and the field of dreams - the dreams that will never come true...

remember me when i am gone away,
    gone far away into the silent land;
when you can no more hold me by the hand,
nor i half turn to go, yet turning stay.
remember me when no more, day by day,
    you tell me of our future that you planned;
    only remember me; you understand
it will be late to counsel then or pray.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

Write, for example, 'The night is starry
and the stars are blue and shiver in the distance.'

The night wind revolves in the sky and sings.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.

Through nights like this one I held her in my arms.
I kissed her again and again under the endless sky.

She loved me, sometimes I loved her too.
How could one not have loved her great still eyes.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
To think that I do not have her. To feel that I have lost her.

To hear the immense night, still more immense without her.
And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture.

What does it matter that my love could not keep her.
The night is starry and she is not with me.

This is all. In the distance someone is singing. In the distance.
My soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

My sight tries to find her as though to bring her closer.
My heart looks for her, and she is not with me.

The same night, whitening the same trees.
We, of that time, are no longer the same.

I no longer love her, that's certain, but how I loved her.
My voice tried to find the wind to touch her hearing.

Another's. She will be another's. As she was before my kisses.
Her voice, her bright body. Her infinite eyes.

I no longer love her, that's certain, but maybe I love her.
Love is so short, forgetting is so long.

Because through nights like this one I held her in my arms
my soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

Though this be the last pain she makes me suffer
and these the last verses that I write for her.

    god.

Gosh, I was close to tears towards the last part. . . if not for some interference in the background.

That Neruda sure has a way of pricking this fragile heart.

I don’t know what’s with sad poems and quotes. They just make you . . . Sad reading them. Yet you love it. Not exactly being sad, but being vulnerable to those heart-strumming words. What a mystery.

    ----------

this song from Neil Sedaka, I could only slightly remember the lyrics:

    ROSEMARIE BLUE

You tried to wake me in the morning
This was our moment of goodbye
You asked me once how long I’d love you
    I told you till the day I die . . .

And now at last my life is over
You can not go where I have gone
I won’t be there to share tomorrow
I love you so but life goes on . . .

    Dry your eyes, Rosemarie Blue
Take a look around there’s a world outside
    That waits for you
    Live your life, Rosemarie Blue
    Put your lonely tears away
Wait and see there’ll come a day
    I’ll be with you.

Don’t bring your flowers to the churchyard
Only the past is waiting there
You should be out somewhere forgetting
Wearing those flowers in your hair.

I nearly cried while typing this one. I always do whenever I sing it. Reminds me of my late sister everytime. Very sentimental.

    Thoughts, but no poem

I woke up singing this morning.
I mean, I was happy and all.
But last night, what I really felt like
    was jumping out the window.
All I could see were these phonies -
I never left the house though.
They were on TV, in books and stuff,
acting out madman stuff in the goddam movies.
    I swear sometimes I think I'm crazy,
    surrounded by these goddam princes
making out like life's perfect and all.
    That kills me.
    Then someone wakes them up,
and they all get sore as hell about it.
But I lie singing in bed -
there goes my crazy sense of humour again...

naka-relate ako sa "Tonight I can Write".

thought: iba effect ng sad poem/story/line pag narerelate mo sa buhay mo noh?

    Human - Human League

"I'm only human, born to make mistakes...."

    Bridge: girl -
"The tears I cry are not tears of joy.
They are to hide my hurt and pain.
I forgive you and I want the same from you.
While you were gone, I was human too..."

check out Pablo Neruda's 'Tonight I Can Write The Saddest Lines'. There's a line there that goes: "love is so short, forgetting is so long..."

    TONIGHT AT NOON
    by: Adrian Henri

    Tonight at noon
Supermarkets will advertise 3p EXTRA on everything
    Tonight at noon
Children from happy families will be sent to live in a home
Elephants will tell each other human jokes
America will declare peace on Russia
World War I generals will sell poppies in the streets on November 11th
The first daffodils of autumn will appear
When the leaves fall upwards to the trees

    Tonight at noon
Pigeons will hunt cats through city backyards
Hitler will tell us to fight on the beaches and on the landing fields
A tunnel full of water will be built under Liverpool
Pigs will be sighted flying in formation over Woolton
and Nelson will not only get his eye back but his arm as well
White Americans will demonstrate for equal rights
in front of the Black House
and the Monster has just created Dr. Frankenstein

    Girls in bikinis are moonbathing
Folksongs are being sung by real folk
Art galleries are closed to people over 21
Poets get their poems in the Top 20
Politicians are elected to insane asylums
There are jobs for everyone and nobody wants them
In back alleys everywhere teenage lovers are kissing in broad daylight
In forgotten graveyards the dead will quietly bury the living
    And
You will tell me you love me
    Tonight at noon

Arrow From one of my favorite artists...

    Is There Something

Lately I see clouds of sorrow in your eyes
Some deep sadness you can never quite disguise
Now I'm scared to ask what it's leading to
But I'm more afraid of not asking you

Is there something that you want to tell me
Is there something that I ought to know
Are we something that's still worth fighting for
Or should I simply let you go
Is there something I can do to reach you
Are we something more than history
I'll find some way to convince you to stay
If you just tell me honestly
Is there something left of you and me

You've got secrets you've been keeping for too long
And I'm going crazy acting like there's nothing wrong
I can taste the truth every time we kiss
    And I can't go on
    At least not like this

I don't want to lose you
But what's the use of holding on
    I don't really have you
    If the feeling's gone

Is there something I can do to reach you
Are we something more than history
If there's no way to convince you to stay
And be the way we used to be
Then there's something that I want to tell you
And I want you to believe it's true
We had something that I'll never forget
    Even if I wanted to
'Cause part of me will always be with you
