I've really liked Norton Juster's Phantom Tollbooth.
This is the only book I've read for about twenty times.
Ganda kasi. Great imagination by the author.
For info here's the wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_Tollbooth
Nana Downstairs & Nana Upstairs.. my best friend gave this book as a present to my daughter.. it's not the typical story of princes and princesses.. the ending is quiet tragic.. but i think it's ok to expose your children to those things sometimes for them to learn how to value the people around them..
Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is by far the most moving children's novel I've ever read.
Hope for the Flowers (I liked it more when I read it as an adult (understood it better!) )
Dr. Seuss' books (I really learned a lot by reading them when I was a kid - and it exercised my imagination to the max)
stories by the Grimm's, Han Christian Andersen .. the fairytales / fables..
I love Holly Hobbie's Toot & Puddle series though for me the star is the little girl pig (I think she's Puddle's cousin), Opal.
Holly Hobbie's watercolours are breathtaking.
If I were going to suggest a book to kids, it'll probably be Quentin Corn. It's about a pig who thinks he's a boy.
And of course the Babar books. But you have to read them with your kids.
