Good day. I'll be taking the August 2012 boards. Do you have any suggestions of which board review schools i can go to, reviewers to buy and a conducive dorm to stay for the length of 3months?thank you

During my time, there were only 2 review centers that I was thinking of joining. UP's and UST's. I don't know now if there are similiar other review centers that can give a would-be board taker a good preparation. Unfortunately, slots are limited. Several just opted to study by themselves and have foregone going to review centers, but successfully hurdled the boards nonetheless.
For me, I think all the knowledge you need to pass the boards is already ingrained within you. The review centers are just to build more confidence. Good luck on your boards.![]()
Review centers are rather unnecessary, in my honest opinion. Just get the right materials, and dedicate several hours a day to reading them. I found the following to be rather helpful:
First Aid For USMLE Step 1 (very high yield)
Clinical Anatomy by Snell
Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple
Pathologic basis of Disease, by RObbins (Pocket Companion)
BRS for Physiology.
Katzung and Trevor's Pharmacology, Examination and Board Review.
Also, gather as many old board sample exams that you can possible get (there are a bunch of compilations of them floating around.)
If you read the basics first, you will encounter a lot of information that will help you when you move on to study the specialties. I didn't focus a lot on IM, Peds, and OB-Gyn, because they are pretty easy, relatively speaking. Surgery is sort of a wild card, because the questions come seemingly out of nowhere.
Legal Med recycles A LOT of questions from old exams. Also, there is a handout that contains most of the information you need.
well said... join the up manila's mock board...
TS, anong school mo? Why not join your clasmates kung san sila at anong nakagawian na ng school nyo, kung san kayo nag re review?
Thank you for your suggestions. I'm not confident to take the August boards pa kasi. Well, im not that good during my med school days, have a lot to study pa. Graduated in PLM, and though we have our in-house review, it might not be enough for someone like me. hehe
thank you for your replies. greatly appreciated![]()
(sorry off-topic)
Kaya mo ya sir! Goodluck sa review!![]()
Thanks for all your replies. I'm now enrolled at topnotch, review will start tom. hehe
@flipmusic: I'm not sure about the tuition for this school year. but during my time (5 years ago), if you're from Manila, you pay as low as 6,000 per sem at 2.5 or better GWA. For paying around 38-42K. Pero I was told that the current range of tuition fee is 49-55K per sem for paying students. You can PM me for more questions regarding PLM med. will be very happy to help.
See you on Aug2012 med boards. woot woot!![]()
advance congrats doc.. kaya mo yan.. gogo PLM
