We must never be intimidated by Globe. They may be ultra rich and powerful, but that doesn't mean they can just abuse consumers.

Pricing is a really tricky issue. But the advance of GSM technology should result in lower prices. Matagal na nilang nabawi investments nila. Their older GSM equipment have been reinforced by modern ones with far better features. In sum, the networks are in a better position to handle more calls, texts and other services than before.

Even iPods cannot be priced exceedingly high. May ceiling ang consumers buying power. Apple may decide to peg it a higher price, pero malilimitahan ang sarili nilang market.

Hope more people signed up the online petition and that we could attend the NTC hearing tomorrow Feb 9 at the NTC.

Let's support TXTPower!

Looks like we're in for a long debate and legal battle. Personally, even if I am a consumer, I think Globe will win this one. There's no such thing as a "forever price" in this world. (E di dapat piso pa din ang Coke hanggang ngayon?). They have the right to raise prices, and NTC can't dictate on that. Like what I have mentioned before, it's just like Apple iPods and Lacoste shirts... we can't complain if they are expensive. If you can't afford, then don't buy.

Boycott lang ang solution dito so Globe will rethink its prices. But it seems some people are still availing of the new unlitxt...
Pero they said na "forever na" ang unlimitext, making it unqualified as a "promo" because there is no forever promo. Dapat di na promo tawag dun the moment they made it forever. Kaya renaming a forever service and increasing its rates will make it a rate hike, malinaw pa sa mineral water yan.

Pero sige, tama ka pa rin, even if we will not look at it in the context of a promo, karapatan nilang mag-increase. Ang kinaiinis ko lang, they inhibit themselves from calling it a "Rate hike" and keep on insisting that it's a new promo.

Huyy raise your hands hehehe.

Globe challenges NTC on ‘unlimited texting’
02/08/2007 | 07:41 PM

Globe Telecom on Thursday challenged a government order to stop its latest unlimited short messaging or ‘texting’ promotion, saying the February 5 order of the National Telecommunications Commission is effectively a price-fixing action and illegal.

The country’s second largest mobile phone company, in a position paper presented to the commission en banc, urged the telecom authority to reconsider its order compelling Globe to revert to previous promotional prices for texting.

“The NTC had no legal basis to order (Globe) to revert to pre-February 1 prices for unlimited texting, and it would violate the law if it reinstated (Globe's) earlier Unlimitxt promotion," the company said.

Globe argued the NTC had deprived it of due process in ruling for TXTPower, an online- organization that accused Globe of sneaking a rate hike on subscribers. The group claims to represent mobile phone users.

The telecom company cited Supreme Court rulings that the commission should not impose new rates on a telecom carrier even on a temporary basis without prior notice and hearing.
It argued the NTC cannot force Globe to violate contracts with subscribers of the new promo or reinstate prices on contracts that no longer exist.

TXTpower, on February 1 petitioned the NTC to withdraw authority for Globe’s promotion and launched an online signature campaign for a rate rollback.

Acting on the groups’ petition, the telecom authority on Monday ordered Globe to “hold in abeyance" its new promo.

Globe has not complied with the order, prompting the regulatory body to issue a cease- and-desist order on the operator on February 7. The first public hearing for the issue is slated Friday.

Under the new pricing, Globe charges P80 for unlimited text messaging over four days, or P20 per day. This effectively doubles the rate from P50 for five days (or P10 per day), previously.

The new promo also includes options for unlimited messaging during the day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and overnight from 10 p.m. to 7:59 a.m. for a flat rate of P10.

Globe denies the new offer is an increase over the old promotion. It said the two are separate and distinct offerings with different mechanics. In any case, promotional rates should be compared not against preceding promotions but against the approved rate of P1 per text message. -GMANews.TV

para sa akin, wala yung issue sa price. it's about information, imagine, overnight, walang pasabe ang globe na tomorrow or on feb. 1 the new rates would be blah blah blah. wala. parang kaboom! pag gising mo ng umaga, wala ng unlimitxt, at unlitxt na nga siya. so yun yung nakakainis, parang gin*g*go lang yung mga consumers e. ano tayo? manghuhula? na alam natin na bukas makalawa mataas na ang services nila?

^sakin ang mas issue ay yung pagtawag nila na "promo" daw yung original unlimitxt knowing that the previous unlimitxt was made permanent. how can a promo be permanent? di na promo tawag dun.

if the two are separate and distinct offerings, why does GLOBE stopped UNLIMITXT and just offer UNLITXT?

Globe is also misleading the consumers telling that UNLIMITXT is for good or permanent and have uNLITXT instead.

I have an idea. Since we're all for control of our ridiculously "free" market, Why don't the government just take over our communications corporations so they can regulate the pricerates there and ensure that very minimal profit is made and the "real" price of SMS usage is maintained? And then we'll just have to get SMS rights proportional to the amount of work that we do.

While we're at it, let's do that to every single industry we have in the country. Then, let's just change our nation's name to "People's Republic of The Philippines" and call our president "Chairman". Let's add more red to our flag, and maybe a hammer and sickle.

God bless your communist thoughts.

Medyo ang labo nga nung argument ng Globe about dun sa subscribers. Yun ang excuse nila na they've "inked" some form of contract with their subscribers. Subscribers meaning tayo yun di ba. Eh tayo nga yung nagrereklamo dun sa bagong rates eh. Unless they are talking about something else.

yung mga users din naman ang may kasalanan. some people abuse it kaya nagkaganyan. i don't think globe is getting much from unlimitexters. kahit mawala ang unlimitexters, their post-paid subscribers will bring in the money. i don't think globe would mind losing a large chunk of pre-paid unlimitext abusers.
