Regine shows comic side in new telenovela

Regine Velasquez is out to prove to all and sundry that she can still summon the ratings.
The superstar singer topbills GMA Network's "Ako si Kim Sam Soon," the first Pinoy adaptation of the popular Korean telenovela "My Name Is Kim Sam Soon."
Kim Sam Soon is a heartbroken "panadera" or baker of a small family-owned bread shop. She was devastated and suicidal when her beau Harvey, played by Wendell Ramos, stood her up on her wedding day.
Then came Cyrus, played by Mark Anthony Fernandez, the man who would change her life forever.
If you have a sweet tooth and you enjoy eating then "Ako Si Kim Sam Soon" is a TV series where you’d get a taste of colorful pastries and even probably succulent dishes from Cyrus’ restaurant and Sam Soon’s kitchen.
Judging from the first two episodes of the series that we previewed,
Regine really has a flair for comedy.
"Hindi totoo na mahirap magpatawa kaysa magpa-iyak. Kung hindi ako nahirapan it is because binigyan nila ako ng napakagaling na cast," shared Regine during the press preview.
Also in the cast are Ms. Tessie Tomas as Kim’s mother, Mrs. Sonia Buot who is a "palengkera,"Jennica Garcia as Eliza her younger sister whose dream to marry a rich man someday could also be the cause of her comedic mishaps in the series.
The multi-awarded Eugene Domingo is Chef Dina, the manager of the restaurant and a good friend of Cyrus.
"Regine is an artist. Hindi lang niya ginagawa ang mga itinuturo sa kanya. Meron din siyang mga inputs. Importante rin sa kanya na nagbabago-bago siya ng itsura. Sa isang supporting actor na tulad ko na susuporta sa kanya sa bagong teleserye na to, I’m very excited to work with Regine…it is important that you get inspiration from each other and you support each other," said Eugene.
Tessie Tomas added: "She’s a very relaxed artist. Hindi too prepared ang comedy niya. She is so spontaneous."
"Maganda kapag nakaka-trabaho mo ang magagaling na artista tulad ni Ms. Regine. Nagiging magaling ka rin and mas relaxed magtra-baho," said Mark.
Other actors in the series are Carmi Martin (Mrs. Ruiz), John Lapus (Marcus), Mart Escudero, Pauleen Luna, Maureen Larrazabal, Sheena Halili, Mel Kimura, Marcus Madrigal, Hayden Kho, Dido dela Paz, Marky Lopez, Arthur Solinap, Stef Prescott and Cheska Eugenio.
The creative team behind "Ako Si Kim Sam Soon" is headed by its directors Dominic Zapata and Khryss Adalia, with head writer Denoy Navarro-Punio and writers Dode Cruz, Kit Villanueva-Langit, Suzette Doctolero, RJ Nuevas and Rona Lean Sales.
Regine also sings "Maybe It's You," the theme song of "Ako Si Kim Sam Soon" the original theme song of the Koreanovela.
