“Lahat talaga ng negotiations tungkol sa kontrata will start after the (2010 PBA Rookie) Draft. The players knew about it, nasabihan naman sila eh,” sabi ni Non.
BARANGAY Ginebra will start offering contract renewals to its players with expiring contracts after the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Rookie Draft on August 29.
The Kings’ governor to the PBA board, Robert Non, said management will begin talking on contract extensions after the team picks in the draft.
“After the draft, doon pa lang natin makikita ang magiging composition ng team next season. But their renewals will be based on their performance last season,” said Non. “Right now, wala pang changes but we have players who we want to renew like Ronald Tubid and Willie Miller. For sure, we will renew them.”
The BusinessMirror learned Tubid will be given a one-year extension while Miller, a two-time Most Valuable Player, has been offered a two-year deal.
Former National Collegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Player on Sunday Salvacion will also be renewed, according to a source.
Besides the players, also to be reevaluated are the members of the coaching staff.
There are reports that there will be coaching changes among the San Miguel Corp. teams, particularly Ginebra and San Miguel Beer, but Non refused to comment on the issue. Assistant coach Gee Abanilla called the shots for the Beermen in Games Five and Six in their best-of-seven championship series for the Fiesta Cup against Alaska.
B-MEG Derby Ace, another team in the SMC wing, promoted Jorge Gallent as its new head coach after Ryan Gregorio left for Meralco.
Ginebra again fell short this season as it finished fourth in the All-Filipino tournament and fifth in the Fiesta Cup. The team last won the 2007-08 Fiesta Cup, beating Air21 in seven games.
The Kings have the seventh and eighth picks in the draft, but Non said they have yet to decide who to select.
The Express own four first-round selections in the draft (Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6). Air21 has expressed interest on former Ateneo teammates Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Nonoy Baclao as its first two picks in the draft.
7 August 2010 News Update and inside scoop, yes you got it right BGK_era, after hearing the grievances of Mark Jeffries and especially his agent that they couldn't meet the deadline for submission of pertinent papers need for him to be able to join the draft pool this year.
Ginebra change their minds and coach Jong express no interest on the said first round draft choice, they are willing to give one of the quality guard in exchange of the first round pick this year, they completely abolished one of their plan for this year and went to plan B instead of pushing the plan A, after not making into the semi-finals.
Some forumers asked me if one of the Ginebra player will be included on the said comment of Mr. Danny Espiritu "expect a big trade?" and NBN anchored by sports commentator Snow Banua followed up some conclusive hint or clue "this players is not happy to stay with his team and he wanted to be traded."
Please read carefully the given short words of Mr. Danny Espiritu "expect a big trade," it could be a two-way trade deal or three-way trade deal, its so brief and concise and all of the above could unlocked this hint.
NBN sports anchor Snow said "this player is not happy to stay with his team and he wanted to be traded," guys don't be sadden about his departure to his so called team.
One more clue "his a franchise player" and his team is negotiating with his agent Mr. Danny Espiritu, asking him if they could set a special meeting with him and his agent to discussed if they can win him back.
He wanted out of the team and considering this special meeting will be one of his last option, his to hot to handle and time is not on their side.
And if this trade will push through and unnamed player belongs to Ginebra, they will have either a spitfire guard, high flying forward or a versatile bigman, probably they will consider sending another player/s to earn another player with extra cellar.

New coaches up in SMC revamp
MANILA, Philippines - Siot Tanquingcen is expected to be among those to be affected by the looming overhaul of coaches in the SMC teams in the pro loop.
Tanquingcen, however, said he’s ready to accept whatever the management thinks is best for the team.
Word making the round is Tanquingcen will be sliding back as deputy to Jong Uichico.
The names of Robert Jaworski and Alfrancis Chua are also being mentioned as possible additions to SMC’s pool of coaches.
Sources said the revamp of the San Miguel and Barangay Ginebra coaching staffs is likely to happen after the two teams played below expectations in the 2009-2010 PBA season.
Tanquingcen, in fact, was ordered to give way to Gie Abanilla as early as Game Five of the just concluded PBA Fiesta Conference.
Sources, however, said it’s not a guarantee Abanilla would hold on to the job through to the next season.
What looks certain is that Tanquingcen is out of it.
“I really don’t know where I go from here. It’s the management’s call,” said Tanquingcen.
“I can’t question their decision. To me, it’s like coaching, the coach calls the shots in his team. I can only be thankful to my bosses (SMC chairman Danding Cojuangco and SMC president Ramon Ang). I didn’t ask to be named head coach at Ginebra and San Miguel but they put me there,” Tanquingcen also said.
“I’m okay to what’s the management thinks is the best for the team,” Tanquingcen added.
We desperately need a big man! I think Vic Manuel is a good choice for BGK in the draft, I've seen him play in the PBL and he is a workhorse!

Miller, Ginebra reach accord on extension

Former two-time PBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Willie Miller has reached an agreement to a two-year extension with Barangay Ginebra, ending speculations that he’s going to another team next season.
A reliable source who has knowledge with the negotiations said the 5-foot-11 Miller already gave his approval to the deal with the Kings, which is approximately worth P8.4 million for two seasons.
That means the Olongapo City native will earn a maximum salary of P350,000.
“It’s a done deal,” said the source, who asked not to be named as the contract has yet to be finalized.
In a telephone interview with the Bulletin, San Miguel Corp. (SMC) basketball operations chief Robert Non said that they will start talks with all the players with expiring contracts next week.
Aside from Barangay Ginebra, the SMC group also owns San Miguel Beer and B-Meg Derby Ace.
Miller, 33, the league MVP in 2002 and 2006-07 seasons, joined Ginebra in a blockbuster one-on-one trade with Alaska last April 28 in exchange for high-leaping guard Cyrus Baguio.
Miller helped the Kings enter the quarterfinals of the Fiesta Cup, but they lost to the Alaska Aces in a thrilling five-game series.
Baguio, on the other hand, played a key role in Alaska’s title campaign in the recently-concluded Fiesta Cup Finals when they beat San Miguel Beer in six games of the seven-game showdown.
He was named as Welcoat Paints co-Finals MVP with LA Tenorio.
