Salons and their Prices

My hairdresser transferred to David's Davao (from David's Pampanga - and yes, nagpupunta pa talaga kong Pampanga para lang magpagupit) and I'm looking for a new one. I like my hair bob and short, pero di mukhang panglalake.

Please recommend good salons, hairdressers, and please include the prices. I noticed there was a thread similar to this when I used the search function (o ayan, mod ha, sumusunod na ko sa instruction) but not all posts included the prices.

Thanks.

how good is Propaganda with make-up jobs and formal updos? say, for a wedding or such formal occassions? I really hate that uber made-up kewpie doll look and am looking around for a salon who does things differently.... :)

Xoule-propaganda does a VERY good job, IMHO. they do a lot of spreads for Preview and Mega and Metro. Jing Monis did Lucy Torres' make up for her wedding. Tin Duque(i think she's the head of the make up group in propaganda) was trained in New York and Chanel in Paris. but as for everything exquisite, the whole thing is pretty steep. when they first started out, Make up and Hair cost 2500...i dunno how much na now.

yup he is great with short hair. i used to have short hair when i started out with him. although may ibang ayaw because medyo edgy ang personality ng cuts nya... pero ako personally i like it kasi may dating...

i give 200-300 but that is only because i get my haircut every 3 months... yes... ganun katagal mag-last ang haircut ni ken... habang tumatagal, gumaganda...

so in effect, for a haircut, i'm only shelling out mga 400/month...

i go to basement salon at rockwell
joseph does my hair at 800 per pop. i give him tip na 100 and 20 each for the shampoo girl and the blow dry girl.

color is a bit steep though - full dye for short hair set me back 1900

sulit na rin kasi my haircut's good for 3 months, and i always get praised for it. my hair's short pero di ako mukhang lalake. joseph refuses to let me grow my hair long kasi bagay naman daw sa small face ko. :p

I tried out Joseph as recommended by Kinny Salas in her column in the INQUIRER. Prior to that I had been hairdresser shopping kasi I wasn't happy with my hair. Originally type ko sana shoulder length yung hair ko but the first time I sat on the chair (nas Palanca pa lang sila noon), his exact words were "I don't see you with long hair." O di ba? I trust his judgment and he's been doing my hair for two years na.

Di ko pa na-try yung ibang stylists in Basement, so I wouldn't know their forte.

Anybody tried Pin Antonio of Salon de Manila?????

I went there last year to get a haircut, and color. My haircut (appointment with Pin), color and highlights cost 5000 P ($100). I was in the salon for 6 hours!! She wouldn't take the tip, so I generously tipped everyone who handled my hair. If I had that done here in the States it would cost more than $ 150.

I would go back next time I'm in Manila.

well, I wouldn't tell my mom how much my haircut costs, kasi she'll go through the roof. On top of that, since I live so far from rockwell, i also have to factor in transpo and food expenses when i go there. But I think of it this way, it's good for at least 2 months, i'm happy with it and you gotta pay for quality.

Try Manfred or Stefan of Basement. They're really good!!! A lot of my friends and their moms go to them for haircuts. Both of them are Germans, and they were trained in one of the best high-end salons in Germany.

Manfred is part-owner of Basement. You might wanna try him. He's really good and accomodating. And he really takes the time to assess your hair and your face... I love the way he cuts my hair, and i've never been to another stylist eversince!!

Both Manfred and Stefan charges 1000 for haircut only. Tips range from 200-300. Depends on how much you're willing to give. But i think 300 is definitely worth it!

Btw, you might wanna try their 7-color highlights. It costs a lot though, around 4000-5000. But it lasts realllllyyyyy long and looks good. They really take time out to assess which colors would suit u best.

i think it's worth it. a lot of people liked my hair and the colors that manfred did on my hair! :p

I have been used to the snippeting of our good ol' barber mang chris.

when i was in grade school my mom gives him 30. home service pa!

now i pay my own haircut, i give him a 100 peso.

nothing compares to the feeling of cleanliness after his haircut, shave and a massage. it makes me feel very clean and tidy.

I had my hair cut there once and it was so bad, that I'm never going back. I went there because Alex Carbonell trains the cutters, so I thought they were good. Thank god I only got the back cut, not the sides and top. Phew. But, it was still bad nonetheless.

Expensive haircuts are only worth it if you go to the right person. My stylist does a really good job. I used to cut my hair every three weeks and ever since I went to Alex, I only cut it every five weeks. It grows really well :)

Yes, he also charges 1K. :) But that's for a haircut only. Tip ranges from 200-300. :) Try him, he's really good :)

Yeah, I know. I've said that before, all of the people I know who had their hair cut at fix didn't like, if not hate, their haircuts!!!

DOn't worry, just let it grow longer and don't trust other salons easily ever again... go to a good salon, it's ur appearance for the next 3 months that's at stake here, dear. :) believe me, you won't regret having to pay a more expensive price for a haircut if it'll make u look better and not uglier :)

As everyone here is talking about haircut, I would like to offer my expertise too in 'hair art'. I am a freelance Japanese Hair Artist who does the wash-n-wear, low-maintenance, no-fuss, fresh-from-bed-look, with attitude haircut around. My approach is kinda different from the old-skool, I input zen philosophic touch with shiatsu and scalp massage before doing the haircut proper.
HAIR IKEBANA is my selling-point. I charge from P500-600 only plus i teach u how to style it lyk a lazy-pig.
Aesthethically-wise, I have been immersed and trained in Japan when I was an exchange-student there two years ago. I do haircutting now in Atomik Matchbox here in Glorietta 3, inside CityWalk Fashion Square (level 2), beside timezone and paradigm. Also in Persona Fashion Cafe inside The Outlet Yard along Quezon Ave., near national bookstore. I work basically on appointment basis (0916-4436076). If u want to see sample pictures describing this haircut, pls, post ur email adds here and i will send them to u. please check out my other threads too. Just offering some help. Please txt me for inquiries, I hav japanese fashion and hair magazines to compliment ur makeover. now, do some justice to ur hair!

i always hav my haircut in david's salon coz most often than not i only asked for trimming. does it really make a difference if i go to salons like basement even only for trimming and not really for styling? :confused3:
coz if it does then i should better try out that famous Basement Salon..

Can anyone explain what is a Japanese haircut?

kiko_ocampo
Jul 13, 2002, 07:46 AM
actually, i am the one promoting this type of haircut as 'Japanese' around. it is called so because of its unconventional and radical approach to cutting hair. its method ( the one i use is) dry cutting so that i wud rili see the actual cut i am doing instead of shampooing or wetting the hair (this is the old-school approach which has d possibility of contracting or expanding the hair dpending on evry person). it is wash n wear that u dont have to spend much time drooling over urself in front of the mirror fixing it. this is the low-maintenance type and fresh from bed look that is really no-fuss but with attitude. i can send u pics of the samples of u want. just post ur email addresses here or email it to me or txt to 0916-4436076 or visit my other threads. it is also the type that u will appreciate as it gets long and longer that u wont be seeing me often because it gets out of look just like an ordinary haircut from salons around. this really guaranteed to reinvent the look everytime. so why dont try posting ur emails here so we cud get started.

Hmmm...the best haircut I've ever gotten was by Huelgas hairdressing in Annapolis. Rene has seen my hair grow from short to long, from wavy to straight, and I don't know how many colors, and I haven't been disappointed yet. :)

Reading about all your other recommendations makes me want to try them, but I'm scared to. :) No one else has been able to cut my hair as well as Rene.

for those who are interested in the japanese hair art, please readon.

i am basically a freelance hair artist from japan. my approach is different from others. i put some zen touch on it and what i do is unearth every look hiding in the person basing on my impression of you and considering ur type. i do any haircut, rather hair ikebana. this one is revolutionary basically because i am elevating haircutting to hair art, which what it really deserves. don't worry, i always see this as an art and i charge 1500 for a haircut, homservc. just call/txt me ur adress, lanlyn, landmarks and time, date when u want it. so if u r tired of the conventional, preppie, teenybopper cuts around, try me for a change and ul love it for sure. the look reinvents itself as it grows so you really end up really getting a good deal because u wont keep coming back to have a haircut because ul always look u hav a new one. its where u cud paint ur mood for the day, the lowmaintenance, washnwear, no fuss, with ATTITUDE guaranteed. so if u want to look younger, cute and somebody then try this one. u wont have top envy the japanese, koreans, chinese, hongkong ppl anymore, its already here. my # is 0916-4436076

Joven and Lucy are both very good. Joven though, is there most of the time; Lucy comes in late, or is either at a competition abroad,or on leave, or otherwise indisposed.
It cost around P500.

I recommend Paradigm. Almost a year ago, a friend recommended it to me because I badly need a makeover and they are really good. I had my haircut there since then but eventually, I had to transfer to somewhere cheap because of budget contraints. Not to mention that my hair grows awefully fast.

Precy was my hairdresser then. ;) They charge around 500 for the haircut. :D

well its the first time i've tried basement and i didn't know any of the creative directors. so i had to give ken a tip and i just gave it in folded bills while saying thank you. as for propaganda, since i've been going there for some time and i could see that it's hard to make abot the tip to people you actually know and sorta hang out with....i think i 'm still compelled to tip them since i'm used to tipping.
