Who has a better anime lineup, ABS or GMA?

We all know GMA declares itself We Are Anime, with a lineup consisting of Pokemon, Voltes V, Daimos, Ghostfighter, Gundam G (and before that Gundam Wing), Lupin III, Flame of Recca and if not mistaken, pati na rin Dragonball.

On Channel 2 are Tenchi Muyo, Magicknight Rayearth, Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X), Neon Genesis Evangelion, among others.

Apparently GMA knows their anime, at least on how to merchandise it. ABS-CBN has good shows but they don't know they have it, so they place it in sucky timeslots and they don't do plugs (esp. in the case of a classic like Evangelion, wc. deserves a full-blown ad campaign ala Voltes V and Ghostfighter).

With that, kanino ang mas magandang shows, GMA with their all-out support o ABS-CBN na magaganda din pero hindi nila alam...

I personally think GMA knows their anime better than ABS-CBN. ABS-CBN's dubbing is horrible, its not as natural as the dubbing in GMA. And GMA knows how to listen to the viewers, they know what we viewers want, so they give us the best anime they can manage with viewer-friendly time slots. ABS-CBN may have grabbed almost all the anime in the top 10 list in Anipike, but I don't think they think twice before putting up an anime for show. Like EVA, for example. That show is way too violent and complicated to be shown on an afternoon kiddie time slot. The dubbing is horrible and they don't even know how to market it. They're only going to disappoint the unfortunate kids who might be watching it since the show only has 26 episodes, they cut all the important shots,they don't complete the opening and ending themes, and much more.

GMA's marketing strategy for anime may be annoying, but I have to say they are good in what they do.

if you are an anime fanatic, medyo match lang sila. MaNY FAVORITE ANIMES ARE IN CHANNEL 2 kaya lang di nila minamarket ng mabuti. channel 7 has the animes that have strong followings in terms of collectibles...like pokemon, mojhacko, gundam, and soon dragon ball. right now, hot taLaga ang GMA especially dahil sa pokemon at recca

ABS-CBN has good anime kaya lang iba ang target crowd ng anime nila. Pinipilit nila ilagay sa slot ng kids ang mga anime na intended for more mature audience where as GMA chose their anime to suit the right audience which is the children 9-14 y/o. Dun nila natalo ang ABS-CBN. Sa mga naka sky/sun cable, meron ding anime block yung pinoy blockbuster channel and magaganda rin yung anime nila. mostly oavs and movies ang pinapalabas.

Maganda zana ang anime nila pero masyadong nagiging corny ang mga translationz nila sa mga dialogs ng mga characters... corny pa magpatawa, zila-zila lang ang natatawa...oh darn it!!!!

AXN has a good choice of anime and timeslots. Definitely my favorite channel. Some of their voice actors and actresses can be really annoying, though. Especially the guy who voiced Recca. His voice suited Tamahome pretty ok, but he should quit exaggerating his accent. Medyo masyado nang obvious ang kanyang trying-hard "surfer" accent. ^_^

I don't know why I have this certain feeling where certain Animes should be dubbed in English, and some dubbed in Tagalog. I personally found Ghost Fighter (YuYu Hakusho) okay in Tagalog, but the Dragon Ball series sounded... lame. Samurai X (Ruronin Kenshin), definitely ENGLISH, PLEASE!!!

I like GMA's time schedule, too, and I'd have to agree that ABS-CBN should be more agressive with advertising/promoting their anime. Samurai X is as good an anime as most, bringing an intriguing story line and satisfying the samurai/fighting-inclined anime fans out there.

To Ruronin Kenshin/Samurai X watchers, did you know that the original Japanese show had a woman for Kenshin's voice? Weird... A friend told me that, when he visited a Samurai X fansite. :/

gma! they started it all in the first place. and i hope they do bring back voltes v and daimos... i never get sick of them.

only problem with dos is, even though they have anime, they plug in their tagalog version! (who wants to watch samurai x in tagalog? it's noot good...)

I DO and it's not crap! It's popular in Europe (esp. Italy). FYI, it's one of the top 100 Best anime ever created in Japan (of course, it's the work of MonkeyPunch and is directed by Hayao Miyazaki). The reason why it seems so baduy to some people kasi dahil siguro sa pagkatranslate. Ang corny ay yung mga pokemon and digimon!!! Pero bet the two, pokemon na lang!

Sa anime line up...

Mas gusto ko sa GMA kasi mas maraming pagpipilian tapos binabalik nila pag nakukuha nila yung mga sumusunod na series/season. Okay din naman ang ABS pero minsan ang konti.
Kainis nga lang pag paulit-ulit!!

Not really GMA but when it comes to dubbing palpak ang GMA ... medyo mas ok kasi yung anime titles ng Dos like Bt'X and MKR .. nung mapunta yung MKR sa 7 di ko type ang pagkaka-dubb nila ..
ang mali kasi ng GMA sinira nila yung dubbing pati yung marketing strategy nila palpak .

yan ang napapala ng mga anime bashers ....:p

Pro's and cons

ABS-CBN 2: to many cuts and edits
GMA 7: too many adleaps not focus on story
ABC 5: What the hell happened to the sounds and background music?
AXN: The best ~nuff said.

Speaking of ABC-5's line-up of anime, do they have any other anime showing other than Sailormoon? I stopped following this channel for a while and I was surprised to see that SailorMoon is still there, although it seems forever stuck in the Sailor Stars chapter.

The ABC 5 Anime's mostly came from the once fabled Star Mandarin TV which became later as the Pheonix Channel. So the Anime's are all oldbies and with the bad timeslot (for me. lolz) their not getting a huge chunk of the primetime pie.
