What school beats UP-Diliman?

Many considered that UP-diliman is the country’s leading institution. It’s because there are lots of students here that are excelling academically and mostly are honor students from the different high schools in the Philippines….

But the question is this, What school beats UP-Diliman? (pls don’t get me wrong, I’m just asking only in your own views…) and to note that I’m not asking a better school than UP-diliman, again I’m asking What school beats UP-Diliman?

Well, I’m very proud to say that my alma mater, though not all times, beat UP-diliman….

I graduated from one of the most prestigious university in Mindanao, Ateneo de Cagayan-Xavier University. And to note, Xavier University is the first university in Mindanao and the first Ateneo to become a university (1958, ADMU s 1959). Some time at the end of the first quarter of 2000, the PRC and CHED released a report about schools that have a high passing percentage in board exams for the period 1994-1998.

Many presume that it maybe UP-diliman cause as we all know, it has really a high passing percentage plus they have graduates with many topnotchers. But that presumption proves wrong cause my school beat UP-diliman for that report.

I don’t really sure if UP-diliman has 18 board courses, but XU has 12 board courses, 11 out of 12 board courses my school produced a high passing percentage.
That make us proud, when we say HIGH, it should be HIGH cause our average for the 12 board courses is 92% (1994-1998). We are very proud that no other school made it! It’s XU…..

I got an article from Silliman University SU NetNEWS (vol. 6 no.8 Mar 16,2000) in Dumaguete City, (It’s because our school never sensationalized cause we believe UP-diliman is better, It just we beat for that statistics) that’s why I cannot present some article from our website. Silliman ranks 3rd in licensure exams performance.
Silliman University ranked third in the performance of Philippine schools in various licensure examinations conducted from 1994 to 1998.
This was disclosed by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) which released their report during the 63rd general assembly meeting of the Foundation for Upgrading the Standard of Education (FUSE) printed in The Manila Standard Wednesday, March 1.
The report said Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City was the top performing school with an overall passing rate of 92 percent in 10 per cent of the 42 professional board exams it took annually. The University of the Philippines (Diliman Campus) came second.
According to the report, University of Santo Tomas ranked fourth at 67 per cent; Ateneo de Davao, 5th, 64 percent; Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, 6th, 60 percent; Mapua Institute of Technology, 7th, 57 percent; Central Philippines University,8th, 56 percent; St. Louis University, 9th, 52 percent; and, Mindanao State University, 10th, 47 per cent. The same report said that the PRC and CHED planned to come up with an award for the school that would shine in the field of accountancy, adding that "several foundations had already thrown their support behind the plan". It said the United Laboratories planned to sponsor an award for the best schools in health-related programs such as medicine and pharmacy. The report also disclosed that the number of examinees during the five-year period increased by 13 percent, specifically from 111,875 examinees in 1994 to 215,553 in 1998.

At present (1999 up to now), our school continues the tradition of excellence of every Ateneo school.
XU, is the first Ateneo school offers engineering school (1979), we maintain the standard of each board course.
Teacher Education (High School and Elementary) as high as 85-95%(not yet 100%)
Mechanical and Electrical Engineering(90-100%) 6 consecutive board exams with a 100% passing percentage.
Electronics and Communications Engineering(90-100%) 2 consecutive board exams 100% passing percentage
Chemical Enginnering(50-90%)
Civil Engineering(80-100%)
Accountancy(50-75%)
Medicine(90-100%) if not perfect, almost perfect in every board exam.. XU’s College of Medicine is the best course the university offers.
Nursing(99-100%)
Chemistry (30-70%), the only board course that has a low performance of the university.

If there will be new statistics, XU will still on the list…….

i know people from xavier university because i am from mindanao too. i have several friends and relatives studying in your alma mater. i have nothing against xavier university, but i believe people from MSU are better than most of the students who are studying in xavier university. in fact, ateneo davao is even better than ateneo de cagayan. there are exceptional students, i agree on that. BUT it does not mean, everybody is as good as you say.

the same thing goes for UP Diliman. not everybody is as good as everyone. you have to take into consideration the fact that UP is subsidized by the government and is seriously facing a huge problem with such a small budget. a state university is definitely different from a private school such as your alma mater. we don't enjoy the same quirks as you people do. but somehow, we managed to be on top. before you make any dangerous statements, please check on your facts and use your brain, my dear, to think.

yes, that site does exist. we, UP Diliman students use it to pre-enlist for subjects (online) that will be offered for the following sem. though for some apparent reason, hindi siya up.

and please, improve your grammar. hindi ganun magsalita ang mga taga-xavier university. or at least improve your typing skills. text language is definitely not the language to use if you are granted an almost unlimited space to use and fill up with your thoughts. para ka na tuloy taga-palengke. naghahamon ng away. tsk. tsk. tsk. and why take everything so seriously? lighten up! dili man inana ang mga taga-CDO!!! i should know...taga-CDO ang akong mama. ug sa xavier siya gaiskwela ayha ga masters sa UP Diliman.

sa entrance palang ng gate nila, makikita mo agad ang university church nila na napakaganda! manoticed agad na catolic skul ang XU, der library s d best n mindanao yata... nakapasok kami sa 2 buildings nila... a 3 storey and 5 storey ang libray nila....

2luy pinagtatawanan kayo ni mindanao girl kus XU has 7 internet laboratories around d campus at exclusive sa taga-XU students..... so i tink internet literate ang mga students nila...

but for me, drim ko pa rin ang UP-diliman, for me d best skul pa rin, ayaw ko sa UP-cebu kus pangit ang campus...
but i respect mindanaogirl kus i think XU s one of d best skul outside Metro manila....
let us respect her na lang!

UP will always be UP, and we dont have to prove ourselves. the pretenders to the throne are so bent on beating us, why not just be the best that they could be instead all of this mindless gobbledygook about besting up-diliman. (and yeah, im not from UP DILIMAN, but i was supposed to go diliman had i not made a last minute decision.)

we respect her, but it's cheap self-promotion at it's most crude form.

in fairness sa taga-XU kus nakapunta ako sa skul na yan during our educational tour namin, maganda talaga ang skul na yan!
sa entrance palang ng gate nila, makikita mo agad ang university church nila na napakaganda! manoticed agad na catolic skul ang XU, der library s d best n mindanao yata... nakapasok kami sa 2 buildings nila... a 3 storey and 5 storey ang libray nila....

2luy pinagtatawanan kayo ni mindanao girl kus XU has 7 internet laboratories around d campus at exclusive sa taga-XU students..... so i tink internet literate ang mga students nila...

but for me, drim ko pa rin ang UP-diliman, for me d best skul pa rin, ayaw ko sa UP-cebu kus pangit ang campus...
but i respect mindanaogirl kus i think XU s one of d best skul outside Metro manila....
let us respect her na lang!

Ang masasabi ko lang, masyadong matipid magpost sina mindanaogirl at cebulad at sa thread na ito lang sila nagpopost. depends on who/what is used to represent either UP or any other for that matter.

There are brilliant students outside UP

and in the same way

Well, I’m very proud to say that my alma mater, though not all times, beat UP-diliman….

I graduated from one of the most prestigious university in Mindanao, Ateneo de Cagayan-Xavier University. And to note, Xavier University is the first university in Mindanao and the first Ateneo to become a university (1958, ADMU s 1959). Some time at the end of the first quarter of 2000, the PRC and CHED released a report about schools that have a high passing percentage in board exams for the period 1994-1998.

Many presume that it maybe UP-diliman cause as we all know, it has really a high passing percentage plus they have graduates with many topnotchers. But that presumption proves wrong cause my school beat UP-diliman for that report.

I don’t really sure if UP-diliman has 18 board courses, but XU has 12 board courses, 11 out of 12 board courses my school produced a high passing percentage.
That make us proud, when we say HIGH, it should be HIGH cause our average for the 12 board courses is 92% (1994-1998). We are very proud that no other school made it! It’s XU…..

Silliman ranks 3rd in licensure exams performance.
Silliman University ranked third in the performance of Philippine schools in various licensure examinations conducted from 1994 to 1998.
This was disclosed by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) which released their report during the 63rd general assembly meeting of the Foundation for Upgrading the Standard of Education (FUSE) printed in The Manila Standard Wednesday, March 1.
The report said Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City was the top performing school with an overall passing rate of 92 percent in 10 per cent of the 42 professional board exams it took annually. The University of the Philippines (Diliman Campus) came second.
According to the report, University of Santo Tomas ranked fourth at 67 per cent; Ateneo de Davao, 5th, 64 percent; Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, 6th, 60 percent; Mapua Institute of Technology, 7th, 57 percent; Central Philippines University,8th, 56 percent; St. Louis University, 9th, 52 percent; and, Mindanao State University, 10th, 47 per cent. The same report said that the PRC and CHED planned to come up with an award for the school that would shine in the field of accountancy, adding that "several foundations had already thrown their support behind the plan". It said the United Laboratories planned to sponsor an award for the best schools in health-related programs such as medicine and pharmacy. The report also disclosed that the number of examinees during the five-year period increased by 13 percent, specifically from 111,875 examinees in 1994 to 215,553 in 1998.

At present (1999 up to now), our school continues the tradition of excellence of every Ateneo school.
XU, is the first Ateneo school offers engineering school (1979), we maintain the standard of each board course.
Teacher Education (High School and Elementary) as high as 85-95%(not yet 100%)
Mechanical and Electrical Engineering(90-100%) 6 consecutive board exams with a 100% passing percentage.
Electronics and Communications Engineering(90-100%) 2 consecutive board exams 100% passing percentage
Chemical Enginnering(50-90%)
Civil Engineering(80-100%)
Accountancy(50-75%)
Medicine(90-100%) if not perfect, almost perfect in every board exam.. XU’s College of Medicine is the best course the university offers.
Nursing(99-100%)
Chemistry (30-70%), the only board course that has a low performance of the university.

If there will be new statistics, XU will still on the list…….

Use of the internet is not the gauge of intellectual capacity and capability. It is not the measure of one's character. On the other hand, what you say on this forum, reflects on who you are and what school you represent. Be conscious of what you post, because you do not only put your name as a stamp on your statement, but its an affirmation of what school you came from. Putting up topics that aims to belittle another school never bears good fruit.

And never think for one moment, that you're better than another because you would only be disappointed to learn, maybe not now, but in the future, that there'll always be someone better than you. That's the way of the world. We cannot be all experts in everything.
