I just want to share this breaking news........................

This might be jumping the gun a bit, and you're sure to hear this news anyway come June the start of the school year, but I just want to let you guys know of the success of your fellow Atenistas in competition abroad. Sorry na lang if it sounds like a press release sometimes, but I just want you guys to get all the information, and to share with our school's victory. =)

Just a few hours ago, Ateneo Team A, comprised of Bobby Benedicto (III-AP PoS), William Panlilio ('02 AB Philo), and James Bitanga ('00 BS MCT, incoming 3rd yr Ateneo Law) won the 9th All Asian Intervarsity Debate Championships held in Bangkok Thailand, besting debaters from the best universities in Asia (incl. but not limited to National University of Singapore, Chulalongkorn University, International Islamic University of Malaysia, UP Diliman, La Salle, UST, etc.)

Team A was ranked 2nd in the preliminary rounds, but won four straight debates in the final rounds to claim the championship. In the Grand Final, out of a panel of nine judges, they were voted on a 8-1 ballot to be the Asian Champions.

FYI, we've been coming up as semi-finalists for the last SIX or something years. This is the first time since 1994 (the inaugural year of the competition) that we've won the whole thing. The two other Ateneo break teams, Ateneo Team B and Ateneo Team C made quarterfinals and octofinals respectively.

The competition also draws up a list of TOP TEN DEBATERS IN ASIA, a list based on scores from the seven preliminary rounds. The results were 7 out of the 10 best debaters in Asia, are Ateneans. I can't officially confirm yet who exactly ranked what place, but I'm sure that there are 7 out of the 10. Those exact details can follow later. =) But, this sort of dominance in the best speakers list, if I am not mistaken, is unheard of in the history of the competition.

Just wanted you guys to know about ADMUs success abroad! Animo Ateneo! One Big Fight!

Congrats!!!

Yeah! I'm part of the contingent and it was an absolutely glorious night last night when Ateneo finally broke the curse!

For your information, 324 debaters participated and 7 in the top 10 were Ateneans. Also, Ateneo was the only institution that had 3 teams in the break rounds and if you include Ateneo de Davao, then there's 5 Ateneo teams who made the break!
Congratulations everyone!!!

Galing talaga ng mga Atenista ha.

Dominatrix ang dating.:spinstar::amidala::spinstar:

Di tulad ng mga taga-La Salle. :elf:

Ebak-ish ang dating. :silly:

Type ko yatang kumanta ng "Greatest Performance of My Life" ha.

Wag na. Baka bumagyo.

Nyek nyek nyek nyek

PS

:bdayfrown:

well, eventhough how little it would seem... it's still an achievement.

I Just hope that next time ADMU would be more diverse in its' achievements.

With a little more hard work & determination plus great doses of deception & false self hype, you can probably be at least at par w/ DLSU's achievements...

As usual, some Lasallians are feeling insecure.

Bulldogs embarrassed DLSU and the Lasallians by exposing their category B rating and their inclusion in the infamous CHED blacklist of schools that are offering substandard courses.

Hey, that's not our fault. Don't blame that on us. Blame your school administration instead.

Crab mentality!!

Anyway, congrats to the Ateneans for displaying their world class talents! You make us Filipinos proud!

Insecure?? For me, your accusation better suits you. Your user name itself is a clear sign of insecurity. :rotfl:

We're not blaming your fellow Atenean. Eventhough it seems impossible, we're just trying to correct his sheer hypocrisy and very annoying and disrespectful behaviour in PEX. If the moderators themselves cannot sustain Bulldogs' banned status amidst all the people's negative reactions against him, at least we are here to put everything in the right perspective.

If the duly assigned people in authority will not make a move, then who else???!!!

Embarassed?? Fine, if both accusations have been proven true. But the "category B" issue came from a very biased and opinionated account very much in favor of UST. On the other hand, the "CHED Blacklist" issue was a complete fallacy. Even the CHED officials recognized their mistakes for publishing such an erratic announcement. And because of sheer hypocrisy, Bulldogs just sensationalised the said issues.

We can only get embarrased kung nagpapaniwala at utu-uto tayo sa kanya. Just like one particular person in this thread.

Yun truth lang po.

Peace.

Bulldogs may have stated them crudely but these are the facts.

3. Category B pa rin kayo kumpara sa Category A ng Ateneo, UP, UST at AIM.

4. Honorable mentin pa rin ang DLSU sa CHED blacklist of skewl bukols that offer substandard and ebak-ish courses.

4. Karamihan (75% - 80%) ng esudyante ng honors class ng LSGH, your own HS, ay pumupunta sa Ateneo.

Why?

Kasi alam nila na ebaks ang DLSU. Taga roon sila eh. Who can be a better judge?

6. Pinaka-importante sa lahat, walang cure ang kabobohan.

YUN TRUTH LANG PO.

Peace and Love from moi.

Biased from a Thomasian perspective or not, the fact is, Ateneo, UP and AIM (in addition to UST) were rated category A institutions, while DLSU was rated category B. Why would an allegedly biased Thomasian side with Ateneo, UP or AIM, and not DLSU?

The same argument goes for the PAASCU accreditation. While there are specific criteria involved, it is still, at the end of the day, a subjective survey by the PAASCU representatives. Since it's based on perception and is subjective, is it biased and not factual? Just a thought.

Bulldogs' statements above may be closer to reality and being factual than some people here would like to honestly admit.

Yun truth lang din po.

Now, if people don't mind. Let's go back to the thread topic and honor the outstanding Ateneans for bringing glory to our country. Let's snap out of this petty jealousy and crab mentality.

Congrats to the Ateneo Debating Society for their dominating performance in the "9th All Asian Intervarsity Debate Championships"!

Congratulations to the ateneans! this is indeed a great honor for our country.

I'd really hate to spoil the celebration, but i have just a few comments on archer_nemesis' messages. First, don't speak of anything you don't know of. For your convenience, i've created a new topic that will enlighten you regarding the schools rated as category A. And second, it is yourself whom you embarassed by posting such a hasty reply. Do your research and don't rely on demented people like Bulldog to do it for your you.

Again, praises to the Atenean debaters.

I'd like to personally congratulate William, Bobby and James for their great achievement. :) I'm incredibly proud of the three of them, and was exceptionally happy to be present when they won Asians. :D

To the excellent UP Diliman and Ateneo de Davao debaters who also made the break for the Philippines, congratulations! :)

And to Nicole Curato of UP Diliman, who was tied with William for 5th place, congratulations too! You were one of EIGHT Filipinos in the Top 10 of Asia. A fantastic accomplishment for the Philippines! :D

I was proud to be a part of this tournament and to see all of you do so well.

I think the highest DLSU team was in the the Top 30s

Congratulations to Stephanie for making it to the Finals as an Adjudicator!

That being said I would like to congratulate my favorite team outside ADMU... the coolest team and the most fun team... College of Saint Benilde!

You guys did a great job with that 5-2 record! Man that was *******! You guys deserve to be in the break rounds (Top 16).

Anyway, people say you've improved a lot so just keep at it!

Hey Chris you still haven't beaten me in that other game!

Good luck!

BTW, Sprakatumski, to even compare a UAAP championship with this one is absolutely hilarious. Kwela ka talaga!

Ateneo dominates Asian Debate Championship

The Ateneo de Manila University recently won the title of Grand Champion at the 9th All-Asian Intervarsity Debate Championship, rolling over the competition in the nine-day tournament hosted by Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Champion team, Ateneo A, was composed of Bobby Benedicto (III AB Political Science), James Bitanga (Ateneo Law), and William Panlilio (MA Philosophy). This year's tournament was the largest in history, with over 320 debaters from all over South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia vying for the championship. The event was held May 14-22, 2002

Ateneo A emerged victorious after eleven grueling debates, wherein they defeated teams from India Law School, International Islamic University, Malaysia, and the University of the Philippines, among others. The team defeated Multimedia University Malaysia in the final round, where a panel of nine judges awarded Ateneo the comfortable victory by a vote of 8-1. Ateneo had the most number of teams which made it past the preliminary rounds, with Ateneo Team B (composed of Camille Ng, Wilfred Segovia, and Eleanor Uy) reaching the quarterfinal level, and Ateneo Team C (composed of Madie Dy, Jess Lopez, and Marlon Plazo) reaching the octofinals.

Ateneo de Manila also dominated the speaker awards, producing seven of the Top Ten Debaters in Asia, an unprecedented feat in Asian debating. Benedicto, Bitanga, Ng, and Uy were tied for 7th Best Speaker. Panlilio was ranked 5th Best Speaker, while Plazo and Lopez were ranked 4th and 2nd respectively.

This victory adds another accolade to the list of accomplishments of the Ateneo de Manila Debate Society. Benedicto and Panlilio are the reigning National Champions, as well as the Australasian ESL (English as a Second Language) Champions. Ateneo also recently won the first ever Asian Parliamentary-format national tournament, hosted by the University of the Philippines, Diliman, and was the only Asian team to make it to the final rounds of the World Universities Debating Championship held last January at the University of Toronto, Canada.

KD, yup, there were teams from India, specifically Delhi University. They didn't do too well, though, but that's due more to inexperience than actual speaking ability. :)

This is the second consecutive tournament wherein the debaters from CSB have outperformed their counterparts from DLSU-Main.

Has CSB overtaken DLSU as the flagship Lasallian school?

Congrats to the Ateneo debaters. Also to the debaters from UP and CSB. Good job!

Thank you for the honest thanks. :) It's good to have people like you in PEx. :D

By the way, Ateneo also reached the semi-finals in the recent Australasian Debate championships held in Australia, the most prestigious tournament in the Australasian region (Australia, New Zealand and Asia). They were the first Asian team ever to reach that far, and they beat the defending champions from Australia. :D

Flame bait??? In THIS thread?

Actually, the team I was in, which won the first Asian debate championships, was comprised of TWO Oblation scholars who turned down their scholarships to go to Ateneo instead. I, on the other hand, did not even take the test to UP, preferring instead to go to Ateneo straightaway. All three of us were Merit scholars. What the heck are you talking about???

Sigh.

archer nemesis,

In what tournament other than this All-Asians did CSB outperform DLSU-Main? I think it's pretty outrageous to claim that CSB has surpassed DLSU in debating.

But more to the point, DLSU DebSoc and CSB Forensics are not competing against each other. In fact, it would be fair to say that they are working with each other. They actually train together, which explains the phenomenal improvement of the CSB guys.

Why should their progress be dependent on the skills of your debaters? Is it just possible that they are indeed better than DLSU-M debaters?

At the end of the day whether its CSB or DLSU it's all freaking the same. Hirap naman kasi you go into a debate with a white board and you start your argruments by telling the opponent, "Ok! This is you william and this is you Bobby!"

Magis!
