I've read a few. Mostly "The Trailsman" and "Jake Logan" paperbacks. Curiously enough, we have a whole shelf of them here at home. They're not usually my cup of tea, but if you're looking for some diversion from the typical genre's and you have lots of time to read, some westerns can be quite entertaining and worthwhile, not to mention being historically informative in ways. :)

Zane Grey. The most iconic, I would think, of the western writers. "Riders of the Purple Sage," "The Last Plainsman," "The Hash Knife Outfit," "Wildfire," etc. My mom had a bunch of the old books in hardback and I read them all.

Plus since they're classics you can find them as ebooks for free :) I think I found wildfire to read off of a page that offered his collection in html. Doing a search will net you some, most likely..
I think the most memorable of those books was the Last Plainsman, as it was Zane's memoirs of his adventures with the outfit of Buffalo Jones, one of the first wildlife conservationists in the west.

Enjoy :) There's some really funny anecdotes worth reading.

Thanks for the recommendations. :)
The funny thing is, book sales are often loaded with Westerns. I guess our old folks read them. Then again, I asked my Dad if he ever read such books. He said about one or two. Those in our own shelves just happened to accumulate from donations and copies handed over by relatives and friends overseas.
