I started out before using HTML for Dummies. I can't say it's the best book but try HTML Complete. It costs only PhP 395 and is a good reference book.

yep, HTML complete is recommended for beginners. It's basically a thick collection of articles from other books, magazines and the internet. very useful imo.

Here's my list of what i had when i was beginning. kinda, but maybe mine was an edition or 2 behind.

1) HTML: The Complete Reference - by Thomas A. Powell
(My first book on HTML, 1200 pages, sobrang dami ng info, it touches almost everything) The best book for me.

2) HTML 4 for the World Wide Web, Fourth Edition: Visual QuickStart Guide - by Elizabeth Castro

3) JavaScript for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide, 3rd Edition by Tom Negrino and Dori Smith

4) PHP for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide by Larry Ullman

5) Perl and CGI for the World Wide Web, 2nd Edition: Visual QuickStart Guide - by Elizabeth Castro

Ehehehe, im a big fan of peachpitpress (http://www.peachpitpress.com) . They have an awesome lineup of books. and they're all easy to understand kapag beginner ka kse may examples right beside the text. So, i would recommend these kng beginner ka.

Kapag medyo advanced ka na:
Check mo naman ang lineup ng O'Reilly
here (http://www.oreilly.com/)
Sila yng puro animals ang cover ng books.

I got these from Amazon.com. malaman meron ** nito dyan.

You know what's a a good book for beginning Web Design?
Creating Web Pages with HTML - Comprehensive by Patrick Carey. It is part of the Course Technology series available as a local reprint you can find in Macromind or National Bookstore! Very user-friendly reading and lots of good exercises.
It's so good you could even use it as teaching material :)

I recently bought a book titled "Easy Web Graphics" by Julie Adair King, published by Microsoft Press.

Glad I bought it. It's a good beginner's investment for those tackling graphics creation for the first time.

Aside from tips, you'll learn trade secrets as well from the tell-all author.

Check it out at Powerbooks or National Bookstore, if you'd like to browse a copy. :)

Hi pearl . I tried depending on the Web for information, coz its true na super daming info.

But it can be quite taxing, specially if you want to refer to the information, again and again.

You'll have to download the information, even print it out. For someone like me w/ low HDD capacity, that is asking a lot!

So in the end, I decided that buying a book is still the best investment, coz it's right there when you need it, anytime!

With the presence of Frontpage, Photoshop, PhotoDraw these days... importante pa ba matuto ng HTML?

What significant benefits can be derived from knowing HTML, if you relate it w/ Web designing?

Think, cleaner and tighter code, client-side & server-side scripting, migration to XHTML and XML.

If all you rely on are WYSIWYG tools, then that's as far as you'll go. It's like, the difference between knowing how to create RAD applications using Delphi & Visual Basic, versus having a solid background in object-oriented and structural programming.

In my opinion (and experience), books published under Visual Quickstart Guide are worth the investment especially for beginners. Books published by them are very simple, down-to-earth and are almost conversational in nature. :)

I've done a simple search in amazon just now and there are just so many results! You could check out and find what you need from the URL below as I do not know just what part of web development you want to focus on. :D

URL: Amazon Visual Quickstart Results (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Visual+Quickstart&x=0&y=0).

Besides that, if you really want to learn web design, you should take time to rigorously study websites, articles, trends, tutorials, etc. The internet is very big and you will find all information you need on web development. You should check tutorials like HTML and CSS Tutorials (http://htmldog.com/), Starting with HTML + CSS (http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/011/firstcss) and CSS Tutorial - Table of contents | CSS Tutorial | HTML.net (www.html.net/tutorials/css/) for knowledge. Visit sites like Web Design Philippines (http://web-design-philippines.com/), Smashing Magazine (http://smashingmagazine.com/) and Zen Garden (http://www.csszengarden.com/) for inspiration.

Be constantly online and learn a lot.

I hope that helped you. :)
