i cried after watching Nausicaa, too! ^-^ i'm glad someone remembers it. i think it's Miyazaki's best, better than Mononoke Hime.

i was almost moved to tears after watching the last episodes of Escaflowne. (Van! Hitomi!) ^_~ but you GMA watchers have to wait a while for that.

I haven't seen Oh! My Goddess...I just have the books. Is it any good?

I can sooooo relate with Akane when I'm watching Ranma 1/2. Maybe it's because we both think (Akane and I) that men are insenstive clods. :D

minami: yeah.. I think it was his best too.. laputa was good.. and so was mononokehime.. but it could not compare to nausicaa.. especially in the last part..

Sophocles^, with regards to Oh! My Goddess, its quite a good anime, but not really a type you'd cry over (happy ending kasi!). Just a bit mushy towards the ending though. Despite that I liked it...and guess what, I have more than a thousand OMG images on my HD!.

I remember almost crying everytime that heart-wrenching piano theme of Macross starts playing to accentuate every sad scene...dang! *sniff*

I get goosebumps everytime I see Soujirou of Kenshin being abused by his foster family. I also get goosebumps and then I eventually cry everytime I watch the ending of RK OAV 4.

Anali: I'd love to watch Grave of the Fireflies but I heard it was a real tearjerker...just seeing the trailer of the movie was enough to make me cry!

Better watch it. I haven't watched the whole, but the part I saw on Channel 55 back when we had Sky was pretty good. Hindi ko nga lang siya maintindihan noon. At one time, pinapapanood pa nga kami noon ng Jap teacher namin, pero hindi naman ako napapunta. My teacher specifically told us to watch this dahil nakakaiyak daw siya.

Sayang at umalis yata si Sir Valiente sa Jap dep. Meron yata siyang kopya nun, e.

Pamela:

There are no episodes of Nausicaa... because Nausicaa is a movie.. and there is only one.. the full title is "Kaze no tani no Nausicaa" or "Nausicaa of the Valley of the winds"

It is very beautiful..
but to tell the story? mm.. I will let other people tell it.. :D

Agreed.

An idea of the story, and what I thought of the film, here:
http://www.egroups.com/message/noelmoviereviews/170?&start=158

I'll say it again: the greatest anime, the greatest animated film, and the greatest science fiction film ever made.

Grave of the Fireflies is a great film.

Roger Ebert had this to say about it:

"Recent animated features such as "The Lion King," "Princess Mononoke" and "The Iron Giant" have touched on more serious themes, and the "Toy Story" movies and classics like "Bambi" have had moments that moved some audience members to tears. But these films exist within safe confines; they inspire tears, but not grief. "Grave of the Fireflies" is a powerful dramatic film that happens to be animated, and I know what the critic Ernest Rister means when he compares it to "Schindler's List" and says, "It is the most profoundly human animated film I've ever seen."

He also says:

"Yes, it's a cartoon, and the kids have eyes like saucers, but it belongs on any list of the greatest war films ever made."

I agree.

Ebert on one point, though, is full of **** .

Grave is a greater film than Schindler's List. Comparing the two is an insult to Grave.

Hey Minami! ^^

Five times lang? :)

You can enjoy Nausicaa at so many levels.

In terms of animation, the colors and drawings are beautiful. So what kung hindi siya 24 frames per second, kagaya ng Disney? Pera lang yan; throw enough of it on screen, and it will be technically beautiful. Beauty of the imagination, mas mahirap yan, and Nausicaa has it.

In terms of character, napakahirap mag-depict nang character as good and pure as Princess Nausicaa na hindi baduy. That old saying, that villains have the best lines is true; even Milton in Paradise Lost couldn't make God more interesting than Satan. Yet what Milton couldn't do, Miyazaki did; Nausicaa is one of the few truly good persons that I find dramatically compelling--

--maybe because she doesn't make a big deal out of her goodness. She just does what needs to be done, and does it as fast as possible. What makes her interesting isn't her per se, but how other people react to her--how the Vally dwellers totally love her, how Yupa is fascinated by her, how Kushana finds herself interested in her character.

Then there is the level of science ficiton. Nausicaa is one of the few true ecological sicnence ficiton films (the other is Dune, which isn't as good). The Wasteland is shown as a strange and beuatiful place, then as a complex ecosystem. Even the dangerous creatures, such as the Ohmu, have a role in that system--and we learn of all this gradually, through the telling of the story.
Finally, you can watch Nausicaa as an emotional experience. People have mentioned how moving it is when

(plot spoilers follow)

Nausicaa died--I was personally moved much earlier, in the episode where Nausicaa gets hurt trying to keep the baby ohmu back from the Acid Sea. It's not Nausicaa getting hurt that was so sad though--it's that the baby ohmu, dying and in so much pain, took the moment to touch Nausicaa, and help relieve her of her pain. A dying child, recognizing the suffering of another--how can you not be moved?

And Nausicaa's death--it was moving, and very beautifully staged, but I could resist breaking down, barely. No, Miyazaki is much more cruelly cunning than that; when Nausicaa is revived, and a child points to Mehve flying overhead, and the wind is back--that finally got to me. Tears of happiness, and all.

Akala ko naman mga confessions dito eh tungkol sa mga X-rated na anime tulad ng Le Blue Girl, Ninja Scrolls and the bold versions of Ranma eh!!! Hehehehehe!!!
Anyway, did you guys cried when Steve, Little John and Big Bert's mom died in one Voltes V scene? Or when Goku almost died at the hands of Freeza where he turned into a super saiyan?

I've cried a lot watching each season of Sailormoon. There's always the endings and the love stories that have great obstacles in there. Sobrang nakakaiyak. And there are also some other things which you can relate that pierces to one's heart.

I cried watching the first Pokemon movie (the best of all three for me!) and I also cried on Magic Knight Rayearth and on Yu Yu Hakusho. But nothing beats what Sailormoon did to me. :D

ako sa yyh, andaming times na.
i can't remember all of those times kaya konti lang isusulat ko.

when jenny kissed eugene just to bring him back to life... sweet sobra :mecry:

when eugene threw the egg just to save jenny's life naman.. "ano pang halaga na bumalik ako kung wala rin lang si jenny?"

sa one of the last episodes ng yyh, nung nasa mahabang stairway si dennis and alfred, dennis told him something like this :

" kung iisipin mo, antagal na nating magkakasama, dami na nating pinagdaanan... pero tignan mo, hanggang ngayon buhay pa tayo " ---> (not exact) :bawling:

when he told alfred that, many unforgettable episodes came into my head... parang don ko lang din namalayan na they have come a long way na talaga..then involuntary tears rolled down my face.

hindi lang yan... dami pa! yyh ba naman eh. i'll never forget those times  :shedtears:

I cried in Ayashi No Ceres, the burden of all those characters are bringing, my favorite Chidori(*spoilers*) killed, Nooooooo!!! :O

Watase is kinda cruel....thanks to her I got now phobias watching tragic stories!!!! Gotta watch out for that category

The point in Anime is taken, japanese people really can make good and I mean very good stories, even though it's just an anime-it can move our feelings towards it, Long Live Anime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 1st Anime that brought me to tears was Nausicaa I was a kid then but damn! I cried back then when Nausicaa died literally! and dance with her when she was revive and she was all the thing I talked about whole day.

I agree to all who said Grave of the Fireflies was a "tear jerker".

I watched this Anime when it was shown in NHK cable TV and it was in pure Japanese... I can't even understand what they where saying but the body language and the emotional expressions... it just too much to take... especially when you can relate...

I can't even get myself to watch the Eng. trans of the show even now, coz I know I would just breakdown and cry....

@ crystalrose

Oo nga! yung Pokemon 1st movie naiyak din ako... I was just there gonna watch that Anime coz my younger sister requested me to and I wasn't the only one. My father, step-mother and my step-mom's elder sister was watching first we were all laughing our wits off then near the ending you can see watery eyes all over. I don't know about you guys Pokemon maybe for kids but that 1st movie was for everyone alike and thats no bull!!!

"Grave of the Fireflies"

Grave of the Fireflies is an excellent film with frank portrayal of the impact of war on children. The animation is superb, from the flying Stratofortress bombers to the simplicity of kimono cloth, there is delicate precision of the animator's craft. Colors are muted and were designed to create an almost dream-like, translucent quality to the images. Character movements are realistically and excellently animated as well. However, a word of caution. This is a really, really depressing film. Unlike most American films which seem to have an ending that at least offers some hope, there is no hope in this one. The tragedy unfolds slowly, and while there are brief moments of joy at the simple pleasures of life, much of it revolves around a worsening existence for Seita and Setsuko. The American attacks are only a small portion of their suffering, as more of it is due to the actions of their own people. Starvation and impending invasion have made the citizens of Japan selfish and greedy, their own survival the only goal. Heaven help those who need help and cannot assist themselves. Seita and his sister, too young to form a new life, too old to fully accept the kindness of relatives, become the cruelest casualties of war...the casualties of neglect.

Dito ako humanga.... I have my vhs and every time a see it in my room, nadi- iinis ako, no happy endings, just pure sadness..
