I remember when Boracay wasn't so populated with tourists. The road from Kalibo wasn't even cemented. There was no electricity nor indoor plumbing. The water was totally clean. There was no garbage. Sometimes it was better to camp out on the beach than to go inside. It wasn't as noisy at night.
Before the large foreigner owned resorts, the night clubs, Boracay was THE BEACH!!!
Mga beterano sa Boracay post kayo ng memories!!! :)

I cant remember the exact year that I first went to Boracay, but it was definitely in the 80s and I was less than 10 years old. It was a bumpy ride from Kalibo to Caticlan, yes, the road wasnt fully cemented yet.
What i do remember is a very nice beach... very few boats anchored. And there were barely any 'resorts'. Our family literally had the whole beach to ourselves.

Hmm, I think I was about 6 or 8 when we first went to Boracay. The sand was really clean! Wala pa halos cigarette butts pag naglalakad sa beach. And konti pa resorts...as in the resort we stayed at wala pa ngang electricity. And konti pa tao, hindi pa THAT sikat yung Boracay back then...

yeh. i've always thought that Boracay was way better when it didn't even have electricity (and it wasn't because of a blackout) yet. that was in the late '80s, i think. when i went back in the mid '90s- i was shocked to see all the people and the algae! now they have a golf club and "raves" (nyahaha!) too. doh!

gusto ko nga gumawa ng save Boracay foundation e, they're turning it into a Puerto Galera, sayang talaga.
if you build resorts or breakwalls too close to the beach, the sand will erode and the beach will disappear. i watched a documentary sa discovery channel and that's what happend to some "paradise island" in the Caribean.
pinipilit kasi nila maging "Wild on Boracay" ang Boracay e, e ang korny naman pumarty ng mga Pinoy nakaupo lang siping their drinks.

first and last time i went to boracay, i was 6 ... 1986.... half of the total pasaheros nung plane eh kamag-anak ko hehehe  excursion!
tama, wala pang electricity dun. gasera lang pag gabi ... walang katao-tao! may mga natives selling necklaces and bracelets sa beach. we spent days enjoying the fine white sand! i even put some inside a plastic bag and brought home with me hehehe (napagalitan pa tuloy ako! jologs eh)
i remember foreigner lang yung nakita ko dun na bakasyonista... haaay.... :) it feels good knowing i was able to experience the old boracay... lalo na kasi hindi na ako nakabalik! hehehe time to dig up my old pictures of boracay...

Napansin namin, puro foreigners yung may-ari.
May pix ata kami non e, hahanapin ko. Pag makita ko ipo-post ko dito.

Although posting here would reveal my age, guess it'd be for a worthwhile cause.
I can still remember a very beautiful, white-sanded beach in the early 80's, when I was barely in my teens, and it didn't have a lot of resorts, no algae, not too many hawkers and the water was so clean and clear. There was no electricity and at night, you could still hear the rustling of the leaves as a gentle breeze fans the entire place.
You could actually sit on the shores, especially during sunset and sunrise, and not be bothered by too many people, pleasant or otherwise. There were no cigarette butts on the beautiful sand, and the people were friendly and nice to each other. You could swim in the waters and not bump into another being, and I really felt that this wonderful place was just for us, Filipinos, since there weren't a lot (if there were any at all) of foreigners then.
After more than 15 years, I visited Boracay again and was shocked by the profound difference. It was sad, like seeing a beautiful lady who had just been ravaged by a hungry predator.
Sorry for going maudlin and all that, but guess you guys understand ...

my lola said that nung mga 60's, binebentahan sila ng lot sa beach mismo ng boracay. di siya bumili kasi daw ang boracay, talahiban lang daw tapos lang tao. ang real estate talga.... very unpredictable.
