View Full Version : What is your pet peeve against YOUR OWN SCHOOL?

Come on, I don't think any one school is PERFECT! :) Putting aside the blind fanaticism or loyalty or pride for your school, what is it you see that you wish would be improved/changed?
P.S. No bad things about ANOTHER school para lang away :p .
For me, it's the registration process in ADMU. Grabe when that day comes, nawawalan ng morals ang maraming tao  . Also, I don't like the fact that we have so many minor subjects that, combined, take up SO MUCH MORE time and work than our majors. Holistic is one thing, but I feel that sa dami ng iba't ibang subjects, hindi na tuloy natututukan yung majors.
Well, that's my pet peeve. What's yours? :)

I accompanied my elder cousin when she was registering. It was hell. I hope that I don't have to go through that.
Pet peeve? Hmm....
I guess we just have to keep raising the bar.

I am from UST and I guess it would be Thomasians' being passive with regard to national issues.
Anyways, lately, UST has been publicly displaying its concern in building a nation. During the latter part of the year 2000, UST released its "A Travesty of Justice" article which pressed for the resignation of then President Estrada. Several days ago, I was surprised to see another paid advertisement coming from the UST expressing its support for the confirmation of one of its outstanding alumni, Alfredo Benipayo.
Nakakatuwa namang isipin na ngayon ay ipinapahayag na ng mga Tomasino ang kanilang boses.

my pet peeve in my school is that during intrams they are implementing strict attendance and if you are br-ave enough to be absent during the different activities, your name would be listed and during the signing of the clearance you would pay 35 pesos per absent and then you get to do community service like cleaning the surrounding areas of the school. isn't that going to piss you off? mga mukhang pera sila ah at another thing, we don't have a wash day so you can't expect any student not in uniform during school hours inside the school compound in any day of the week well unless it is their p.e. subject.

The registration process in the Ateneo is the absolute pits. According to my uncles and aunts, it has been like that for more than 20 years. It takes hours and countless lines. You have to rush from one building to another, from one department to another, to register for each class. "Road rage" talaga ang feeling. It's like you want to just go ballistic and shoot everyone around you.
Imagine those wannabe US immigrants who fall in line in the USA Embassy in the wee hours of the morning. It's somewhat like that in Ateneo, except it's more unruly and there are more lines and more buildings to go to.
Sometimes, it's "first come, first served" for the classes. If you're late, you'll most probably end up with a "terror" teacher who loves giving C's, D's, and F's, or a lousy schedule (eg early class in the morning, to be followed by a late class in the evening).
Anyway, make sure you're physically fit (lots of walking and running required) and in a good (saintly) mood on the day of registration. And be extremely patient. You will need lots of it.
(On the positive side, there are many good-looking people around. So....parang "heaven and hell" combined.)

I go to UA&P.
One thing that really, really irritates me is that the school is so closed-minded. SOmetimes, it seems that you never left High School because of all the rules that the school throws at you. I mean, I've learned to deal with the "no-sleeveless shirt" rule (nagre-rejoice ako pagnakakakita ako ng braso ng babae!!!) and all, but sometimes, I think the school is too strict for its own good. Because of this, there are times when I feel so inhibited!
Also, the school messed up my registration and I have to take my foreign language AGAIN... and it appears that the last sem, I was just a sit-in in class!!! Ang sungit-sungit pa ng registrar!
At saka medyo lang naman ang taas ng tuition namin!
Isa pa, I don't see why we (guys) have to take ROTC in U.P... pineperahan lang naman kami, e!
And lastly... A P A T H Y.

1) having a small campus... how i wish we had a campus as big and green as ateneo heheh...
2) bwisit na parking especially if you come to school late and you don't have tickets for the sports complex parking area...
3) politics? parang overhyped... its not like we see any results anyway...

my complaints against dlsu:
1. absurd plethora of rules and regulations enforced by stuck up discipline officers (i.e., rule preventing entry in campus after having left id for 3rd time)
2. shocking incompetence of many students (like in many other schools). go check out the posts of lasallites in other threads. the sad thing is that the lasallians who defend the school most vigorously in pex have no business doing it.
3. stinginess of university in funding student activities other than uaap basketball
4. lack of open space (i sometimes wish that i had gone to ateneo because of this, but for only half a second :)
animo lasalle, nonetheless!

at dlsu....
They spend too much in endless renovation of the buildings and installations of useless fountains, which only visitors and outsiders appreaciate. They should focus more on the facilities that students use every single day of their lasallian life.
Parking is a dead end.
Useless subjects like filipi demand more tedious work than the major subjects.
Student politics is a replica of the contemporary situation of the government.
Dress Code??? Why can't we wear something more comfortable especially now that it's summer time?
But despite all these, i still love my school! :D life isn't life at all without problems....

:) Pet peeve is not necessarily a "bad thing," just something that personally irritates or irks you. For example, I can say my pet peeve is girls that flaunt their bodies in skimpy clothes. That may be MY pet peeve, but it would be heaven for, let's say, guys :p .
Anyway, it seems like there are several similarities with regards to different students' from different schools pet peeves. More common: registration  (I swear, sa tagal bang in operation ng mga school natin di nila maayos-ayos yun!), grumpiness of school personnel (Kainis talaga yung mga SECRETARY, oo secretary lang sila, na ang feeling feeling magtaray sayo kahit na nagtatanong ng maayos), and fellow students, be they conyo, apathetic, or just plain out-of-line.
Looks like our schools have more in common than we think :D .

UP Diliman is not paying any attention to anglo-american lit majors. anim na nga lang kaming anglo-am undergrad majors sa buong pilipinas...di pa kami binibigyan ng priority! isipin mo our major subjects get to be cancelled or dissolved because a class should have at least 10 students...so para kaming naglalako ng major subjects namin sa mga nag-RGEP at nag-eelectives! and because of that we get stupid classmates who doesn't give a damn about literature.
and to think, our course is a good one to take as pre-law. and it is said to be one of the most challenging lit courses in the entire philippines and the administration is not listening to us!!! kelan pa kami gagraduate kung palagi nilang ididissolve ang majors namin just because of a stupid directive of at least 10 students in undergrad classes?!

My complaints and pet peeve against ATENEO:
1. Students are a bunch of Air-heads. They have superiority complex. In other words, MAHAHANGIN. Confidence is essential in one's stature but not to the point that your feet is already not planted on the ground.
2. They are not living up to one of their mottos which is "Man for others". You can see from other threads how they BASH other schools. Unfortunately, they do it in a way na hindi masyado halata. They use too many understatements. But still some are really very vocal when they bash other schools.
3. They capitalize on saying that they passed the ACET, the most difficult college entrance exam; that's why they deem themselves more superior than others. A very difficult entrance exam does not follow superiority. Any school can make their entrance tests very or extremely difficult. They just have their own reasons not doing so.
4. SORE LOOSERS. They can't accept defeat even though it was already proclaimed and very clear. One example was during the 64th UAAP Basketball Season. They can't take their sad loss that's why they turn to black propaganda and other related schemes/moves.
5. Like Eagles, they are somehow like LONERS in the Sky. They have difficulty realting with other people, especially with the lower class. It's like they have their own world. In one affair where different schools participated, all of the schools were participating and interacting, whereas, the students from Ateneo are in just one corner talking by themselves.
6. Students say that Ateneo does not have a good school facade unlike other schools like UP, UST, etc.
7. Some say that Ateneans are a bunch of SPOILED BRATS. I'm sure that not all of them are like this.
8. Graduates become crooked and self-righteous politicians. Common examples are ERAP, Maceda, Jimenez, Enrile, etc. etc. But this is not in general.
9. Students say that they are not that exposed to National Issues and Affairs. Unlike their nearby neighbor U.P. who is very active and participative in current national issues and events.
10. According to employers, some students are very choosy about their jobs. Also, others when become employed, they do not stay long in the company; especially when better job opportunities come their way. ie. Company Loyalty is not that much manifested and embodied.
11. Ateneo uses U.P. somehow as their "Security Blanket". They associate U.P. with Ateneo whenever they bash other schools. For example, "If i know, you just didn't pass ACET or UPCAT!"
12. Students and Alumni are very fond of creating and composing Jokes in favor of Ateneo. There's nothing bad about creating jokes, but they use it in turn to bash and ridicule other schools. They spread these Jokes like wildfire, even using the internet as a medium, making fun and playing with the reputation of other schools. A usual victim of these jokes is the De La Salle University.
13. Last pet peeve coming from Ateneo students and Alumni is that the Ateneo's brand of education is slowly deteriorating. It has changed so much compared to what it was before.
And the list goes on..... Others are not worthwhile mentioning.
From: A former but enlightened Atenean.

Sprakatumski, are you a current Atenean or an alumni? I just noticed that you kept on using "they" when referring to Ateneans. Since this thread is for pet peeves against your own school , your post will be considered school-bashing if you're not currently enrolled in or a graduate from ADMU.
If you are/were an Atenean, then no problem :) . If not, then please edit your post to prevent another school wars thing. Thank you very much.
