Old chismis never die.
East is east and West and west and never the twain should meet.
It's like mixing oil and water.
Never meant to be.
Let's leave it like that.
We only combine the two in school surveys in order to inflate DLSU's resources. But we should never combine the students of the two schools. Puhhhlleeeezzzz.

why 'o why can the two universities not merge, my wise but wayward children? if i was the UP president and CSB offered to merge with the state U, i'd seriously consider it.

CSB is already a part of DLSU...why merge then?

i just want one name. no dlsu-main (kuno) or CSB. just DLSU.
anyone smart enough to tell me why this shouldn't be?

DLSU-Manila and the DLSU-College of Saint Benilde are not merging. Take it from this horse's mouth.
To clarify, kristina, CSB is not part of DLSU-Manila. It is part of the De La Salle University System, but not the specific Manila University.
You may want one name, mac_bolan00, but it isn't to be, Sir. The reason why this is so is primarily because DLSU's thrust is towards research, while CSB's is towards alternative education and learner-centered focus. Both institutions share only two courses in common - academically, they share nothing else.

sorry to be disrespectful, sir, but i find the diverging thrust such a lame excuse. what's obvious here (i love pointing out the obvious) is that some people think they're too good to be associated or even mistaken for another group of people just across taft avenue. the current dlsu-manila 'system' is big enough and has enough logistics to accomodate whatever program CSB has. who's fooling who? merging will effectively cut overhead costs. if you want so much differentiation, then do it at a college or departmental level, like what UP does. heck, every department in UP seems to boast a thrust so unique it merits full autonomy from the rest of the system. in this respect, UP's a lot crazier than lasalle.

The College of Saint Benilde was formed in 1988 to cater certain courses the existing DLSU admin wasn't willing to handle... or some similar reason. It's not a logistical matter, it's more of an administration/policy-formation thing. I guess they figured CSB would have more freedom in forming "unique" courses if crafted outside the clutches of good old Main.

mac_bolan00, the simple difference if DLSU and CSB is like the difference of UP – Diliman and UP – Los Baños. I’m a proud Benildean, even though I passed the entrance exams of ADMU and UPLB, I choose to enter CSB. My sole reason before as a high school senior was its trimestral system, thinking that I would graduate early. What happened is, I love my college and I intentionally extended my stay for 1 year and became very active in student politics. Anyway, about the so-called merger, it will not and will never happen. Were the one’s before who fought for this that CSB should be independent and separate. We even coined the idea not to call the DLSU – Manila campus as the “Main” campus, because for us Benildeans, CSB is our main campus. Anyway, here’s a brief history of CSB for those who don’t know.
The College of Staint Benilde was formed in 1980 inside the DLSU campus. It has two departments (which were now renamed into another name that I’m not really sure of), the Career Development Department (for working students) and the Educational Development Department (for those who became “ineligible” or popularly known as kick-out with their old programs). Now the reason for this is that DLSU has its own belief that being “ineligible” does not mean you’re dumb. There are other reasons for this and one of them is that you may be on the wrong program or course. In 1987(?), DLSU bought a vacant lot right across the current McDonalds La Salle Taft Branch (after failing negotiations with the current landowner of where McDonalds and University Mall stand) as CSB’s new campus. CSB was formally moved in 1988 with it’s CDD and EDD programs, as well as new innovative and unique courses. That’s where the nick “bagsakan ng mga kick-out” emerged (I’m not ashamed of it, for those who are, I’m very sorry for you). As I said before, being kick-out does not mean you’re dumb. It is not directly proportional. Anyway, not all “ineligibles” were accepted (and as I heard right now, they no longer accept those who are considered officially “ineligible”). There’s another exam for the EDD program before you get accepted. CSB was slowly creating it’s own philosophy, belief, core values, etc. More courses were added through the years and in 1994, CSB became an autonomous college of DLSU. When I graduated, the long-term goal of the administrators of CSB is to make it a university – still under the DLSU “multiversity” system. Whether it will be called USB or SBU, it is the long-term goal and the so-called merger is definitely the other way around for what CSB want to happen.
Indeed!

It is possible that in the long run technical and vocational schools will replace most universities in the Philippines.

many of my cousins kase is from dlsu, sabe the reason of creation of CSB is to take out the bobo image of dlsu and transfer it to CSB.
they say its the advise of Marketing Arm of dlsu system.
oh well, its just a myth. yung bobo image **** date is just a black propaganda of some ateneans "daw" who cant accept the fact na mas dumadame ang bright na la salle grads at that time....:D

As a graduate of CSB I don't agree with this.....I studied hard to get above average grades in order to represent CSB and not DLSU-M....and besides, what's the point? It's not as if CSB is not part of the De La Salle System. Why merge two schools when both schools are already part of the same system?

Wala na pong De La Salle University System... It's De La Salle Philippines...
DLSP is the body that supervises all the 18 Districts Schools of the Philippine Lasallian Family (Brothers, Students and Partners).
Okay?

just wondering lang, bakit may la sallians wannabe? are they really like that, craving for the name of dlsu- main? while di naman maganda image ng dlsu main (e.g. cheaters & idiot). *peace*

I can't see the point...kasi I think the only difference between DLSU main and DLSU-CSB is the brand....feeling ko pareho lang ang quality ng education its just that CSB is the income generating to sustain La Salle main....
so afterall pareho naman talaga yan diba? what's the point of merging? la lang!!!

As impossible as it may seem, there are those like winter_season00 that represent themselves as fake Lasallian/Lasallite or whatever you may wanna call it to misrepresent La Salle more or make bad reputation to the school they're targeting. They're also there to further the misunderstanding of the La Salle people and the others looking in, just like you.
I hope you'd understand that and not just let your Atenean ego take over as faster than your mind can think.

I think UST and Harvard should merge since these schools have similar quality education. I agree, DLSU-M should merge with CSB. And as for Ateneo, they should merge with AMA, STI and Informatics. :)
